Comfortable bra for bigger boobs

…which doesn’t then make my boobs look like a shelf! I had 3 underwired bras (Panache, Freya etc) but they’re a bit tired, one has broken and one has developed a twisted strap that digs into my shoulder. I’m hoping someone has tried the cheaper, wire-free bras I see advertised on social media, Lemonade, Boody, and the like- or the even cheaper supermarket ones!

I need my boobs to be supported but also look shapely, because I have quite a solid torso and can look like a breezeblock. So something that lifts and shapes them rather than the sort of shelf effect you can get with some cropped top type sports bras. I’m a 34F in most styles of ‘proper’ bra. Can anyone recommend anything?

@AlertCat I’ve not found anything to compare. I’m always on the lookout! I’d love not to have underwires but find them uncomfortable or unsightly (monoboob)! I know they’re expensive. There is a Wacoal (manufacturer) factory shop if you can get to Desborough (near Market Hatborough.

AlertCat · 16/02/2025 20:28

Anything to avoid the monoboob effect @letshavetea ! I wear enough sports bras that I want my normal bras to make them look good 😂

Molke works for me. No wires but very supportive.
For Fantasie, check ebay for older models (I mean past season, not used)

They’re great, and last, but sometimes wearing wires gets tiring and also they’re £40+ a pop, so I was wondering if there was a suitable non-wired cheaper option out there.

Can find them cheaper sometimes but tbh my fantasie moulded have lasted years.

When I had the time to hand-wash I loved prima Donna but they aren't cheap (nor smooth).

In extremis earlier this year I was quite impressed by primark moulded (non-wired).

(I'm 34g)

Bravissimo own brand for me and agree with PP about Millie.

I buy the Fantasie T shirt bras - on offer they can be bought for £20 or £25 and I then carefully take the wire out so they are non wire. I find Fantasie are a lot better fitting than other brands and last longer

Lovemybunnies · 16/02/2025 20:48

I am 34R and have just ordered from Lemonade Dolls but it doesn’t fit me and I didn’t realise you only have 14 days to return. I really like the Millie from Bravissimo and am just ordering it in several different colours.

34E!

36gg. M&S do a dupe of the fantasie t shirt bra, which is pretty good. And I also like the m&S underwired sports bras. But tbh I switch bras several times a day according to activity level. I need the support of underwired but they are so uncomfortable I can't wear them all day like I used to.
If leaving the house its an underwired bra, sometimes with one of those firm stretchy low impact sports crop bras over the top as it takes a bit of pressure off the underband and straps. A day in the office is the longest I can go with wearing underwires and I'm normally very sore around my ribcage by the time I get home.
When home and not moving about much then it's the m&S non wired soft body bra pp have mentioned above, or a low impact stretchy sports bra (though I find boob sweat an issue with these). Then overnight I wear a sleep bra.

ChangingHistory · 16/02/2025 21:11

@OttersAreMySpiritAnimal any suggestions for the low impact crop top. I like the idea of trying that over a wired.

Boob sweat is an issue in non wired, it seems impossible to stop them squishing together or touching underneath by the end of the day. I've started using Sure Whole Body Deo, it's a cream you just spread on and it's definitely made a difference.

BCBird · 16/02/2025 21:18

The Marks and Spencer Bralette bras give u shape.

Brienneoftarthismyhero · 16/02/2025 21:26

I just wanted to add about the M and S bralette . I’m a 32FF and have 4 of their bralettes as so comfortable and reasonable amount of support. I mainly wear Freya and Panache but bralettes are great when wfh and for lounging, also wear them after swimming.

TwinklyRoseTurtle · 16/02/2025 21:28

I found the lemonade rubbish I’m really disappointed, I’m a 38 EE I found it gave no support- my bust looked really saggy and the cups don’t fit properly and it is definitely the right size so 100% DONT recommend

IDoLikeToBeByTheSea · 16/02/2025 21:29

I’ve just started wearing these from Asda and they are very comfortable and supportive.

Bravissimo Millie (I am 32FF). Also the Zara or Zina bralette. I do like Fantasie as well.

I don't rate the social media non-wired stuff. I got a Tutti Rouge non-wired set and it's fine, but more for under loungewear at home. It looked weird under a t-shirt.

redstripestar · 16/02/2025 21:39

Have a look at the Bella Rosa catalogue: Lingerie, Swimwear, Nightwear | Kent | Bella Rosa Lingerie

I'm a 30E. I used to be a 34B before I had a proper fitting. Have a look at Boob or Bust. I can now buy a lot more types of bras because I'm buying the right size - I tend to look for full cup or plunge.

These are some good ones.

Won't win style awards but very comfy good tshirt bra: Body Soft™ Wired Full Cup T-Shirt Bra A-E | Body by M&S | M&S

Just lace but very flattering and supportive: Bralet - Deep V| Superboost Lace Black|Gossard

One of my favourites: Encore Padded Longline Bra Black Nude | Lingerie | Gossard

Not tried this but looks like great side coverage, actually I did buy it but it's quite a tight band, I needed to size up and never got round to it: Parfait Casey Plunge T-Shirt Bra Black – Brastop UK

This is on my list: T-shirt bra | Superboost Lace Lingerie - Nude | Gossard

Quite a fun one, band comes up small (as do knickers), they bring out a new colour every year: Romance Padded Boost Push up Plunge Bra in Black | Pour Moi

I also really like Rosie, they also bring out a new one every year: Cherry Blossom Silk Wired Full Cup Bra (A-E) | Rosie | M&S

Edited to add- I tend to have no more than one nude and one black tshirt bra on the go to wear during the week. Plus one non wired one for when boobs are sore (totm). I wear my fancy underwear at the weekends because, why not, so I spend more on that/look out in sales. I also don't think non wired is flattering on me, and it creases my chest.

schnubbins · 16/02/2025 21:40

I have been buying bras online from 'Miss Mary of Sweden'.They are comfortable and very supportive with good thick straps and band .I've thrown every other bra out. I am a size 36 F and absolutely wish my boobs would just shrink.

Landlubber2019 · 16/02/2025 21:47

Personally I am a massive fan of snag bras, they are wire free and provide plenty of support as well as being comfortable.

Used to wear panache and Freya size 36 gg

No33 · 16/02/2025 21:49

Brastop.com for branded bras, but previous seasons so can be cheaper!

I love the scantily none wired. I've tried tens of no ne wired and they are shite. These ones actually lift and make my boobs sit well.

I'm a 32hh

onwards2025 · 16/02/2025 21:50

I feel like I have tried them all! Current favourite is budget friendly M&S mesh extra support bra, the 4 panels make a huge difference to the shape for F cup me

misssadface · 16/02/2025 22:03

Fantasie fl6500 I won't wear anything else with these giant orbs! Can usually get them for about 25 quid but I do get a lot of wear from them I think!

Mumof1andacat · 16/02/2025 22:13

I'm a 38h. I find curvy kate or flirtella comfortable. Both brands are available on brastop.com. I always wear a wired bra. Generally i balcony style bra

mitogoshigg · 16/02/2025 22:15

My favourite ones are Sainsbury's, they are underwire but cushioned

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 16/02/2025 22:21

@ChangingHistory no, sorry, haven't bought any new ones for ages! I previously used to pick them up from Asda or Sainsbury, and they could be described as a yoga top. Need to have a bit of compression/support, not those really thin lightweight ones that do nothing at all.
My favourite one was a shock absorber one I bought from Debenhams over 10 years ago, it only recently started fraying and so had to go, that was a sad day.

bossbossbaby · 16/02/2025 22:59

Ddakji · 16/02/2025 20:02

These offer absolutely zero support to the heavier bosom, though.

I’m a gg cup and have found them ok
