Longchamp Le Pliage

It arrived today after the slight buzz of finally ordering one and I’m underwhelmed.
Am I missing anything? I have even measured it because I wasn’t convinced it was large.

Its beauty is in its simplicity. It fits more than you’d think and looks chic. If it helps I believe you can get inserts for it.

mdinbc · 27/01/2025 19:31

I've never understood the high ranking for this; really, it's just a canvas tote bag at an extraordinary price. I hope you do get long use from it.

Whatwouldnanado · 27/01/2025 19:34

My favourite. Tough as old boots, waterproof and folds up to nothing so you can sling it in a cabin bag and use as a day bag on holiday. I love a leather handle too.

JamMonster · 27/01/2025 20:10

I liked mine because it fit A4 paper/a laptop in. I like that they don’t really seem to go out of style and are quite neutral and minimal so look good with most outfits. I bought a rucksack version in 2018 and I still like and use it as my main bag. The bottom corners are where they eventually start to wear through which feels sad as you can’t seem to repair.

JamMonster · 27/01/2025 20:11

Oo thanks @Londonmummy66 - I didn’t know the corners can be repaired, you’ve made my day!

mumstheword001 · 27/01/2025 20:12

I’ve had mine for over 4 years and it’s still going strong. I love mine and it goes with most outfits. I mainly use it for work and I can fit everything I need in and more! Well worth the money in my opinion

Redskyatnight6 · 27/01/2025 20:21

Thank you for the replies. I do like the simplicity and it will go with most things in my wardrobe. It just seems very flimsy for the price.
I have got a bag insert arriving so maybe that will help.

I have one and the rucksack. I don't really get it either.

SlaveToAGoldenRetriever · 27/01/2025 20:23

The new large ones have definitely shrunk! I have quite a few Longchamp Le Pliage bags, ranging from 2018-2023. I bought a new one online last year and sent it back as I was convinced they’d accidentally sent a medium, it was tiny in comparison to my old ones and looked + felt really silly.

Overtheatlantic · 27/01/2025 20:26

Back in the day you would buy handbags with liners that looked exactly like the Le Pliage. I’m not a fan.

complicatedsitu · 27/01/2025 20:27

Where can the corners be repaired for free? Thanks!

Hoppinggreen · 27/01/2025 20:27

I really like mine
I have a black one, a blue one and a pink one.
The pink on eis looking a bit grubby though

Redskyatnight6 · 27/01/2025 20:45

@SlaveToAGoldenRetriever this is why I measured it! I’m not convinced it will fit a laptop and other items. It does look quite small for a large size.

I believe that you may have to take it to a Longchamp store for them to possibly send away but I am not sure.

MissLambsAcademyForYoungLadies · 27/01/2025 20:58

They are the school bag of choice in my DD’s school. It’s not uncommon for girls to have several - one as their main school bag, one for sports kit and a small one as a lunch bag. The amount of money spent on them is insane to me - they’re not even waterproof which is crap when you’re walking to and from school/bus station every day. (And that’s before you even mention how bad it is to carry all the weight of a heavy school bag on one side, and how obvious it is which side they are carried on because the blazers are all worn down on one side at the shoulders too.)

My DDs don’t have them and won’t ever be getting them.

I can understand a grown woman getting one, but they are NOT worth the price

They just last and last and if the corners go they'll repair them for free. A really practical understated bag that you can take anywhere and get a lot in. I use a bag insert - one of these - so I can find stuff - choose a bright colour so you can see... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332719184884?itmmeta=01JJMN7BG49B0EWBMD6KYZE8DE&hash=item4d779bdbf4:g:VcwAAOSwxSFk~EMH

Oh I didn't know they repaired corners. I gave mine away for free 😕 but I loved it while I had it!!

They are made of nylon (main body) and IME are waterproof.I have had one for nearly 20 years and it’s still going strong.

Edited

Def not waterproof in heavy rain - plenty of girls at school have to dry books on the radiators when they arrive after walking up from the bus

TheYearOfSmallThings · 27/01/2025 21:10

I was in Primark the other day and saw they have done a bright red rip off of the Le Pliage. It struck me that they might have had their day. Which is a shame because I have a very nice rip off from Dunnes in a tasteful cognac shade Grin.

They seem flimsy but that nylon they use is bombproof. Obviously don't go dragging it along concrete but it's so much more durable than you would think and just doesn't look worn ever. Unless you drag it along concrete

Not to you perhaps but they are to the millions of people who have buy them 😸

I think they have a place. They are extremely light. Extremely durable and easy to clean they make the best holiday bag. Good for town good for the beach. And fantastic as an emergency extra bag folded up to be used if you have too much luggage on your return.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 28/01/2025 07:52

I’ve been using them for years. The bags are incredibly light, but can carry a really heavy load with no risk to the straps.
I had a water bottle leak the other day, and didn’t know until I went into my bag, as the bag is pretty watertight. And being nylon I could mop it up with no damage done.
Mine have been incredible work horses over the years.

The only downside is that after a decade or so of using them as my work bag of choice for school, now all the girls have them it looks like I’m trying to keep up with the cool kids!

Redskyatnight6 · 28/01/2025 16:34

It’s interesting that so many people say they are good, so they must be.
I have now ordered a black leather tote from Fat Face to compare them. I have never had a bag from Fat Face before but have had some clothes, so I’m not sure if the quality.
Half of me thinks I’ll regret it if I send the Longchamp one back…
