Longchamp Le Pliage

It arrived today after the slight buzz of finally ordering one and I’m underwhelmed.
Am I missing anything? I have even measured it because I wasn’t convinced it was large.

@TheYearOfSmallThings noooo! Primark got hold of the Goyard St Louis bags too and they were erm, interesting.

They seem flimsy but that nylon they use is bombproof. Obviously don't go dragging it along concrete but it's so much more durable than you would think and just doesn't look worn ever. Unless you drag it along concrete

‘Bombproof’ and ‘never looks worn’ certainly aren’t words I’d use to describe Longchamp bags! DD used them for school and typically needed a new one each year as the edges would be totally worn away. Very easily stained too - stick to dark colours OP!

I can understand a grown woman getting one, but they are NOT worth the price
Not to you perhaps but they are to the millions of people who have buy them 😸

I think they have a place. They are extremely light. Extremely durable and easy to clean they make the best holiday bag. Good for town good for the beach. And fantastic as an emergency extra bag folded up to be used if you have too much luggage on your return.

That's exactly how I use mine. I have them in several sizes but they are mainly used for holidays and travel. Very useful for that extra bit of holiday shopping 😉

I was in Primark the other day and saw they have done a bright red rip off of the Le Pliage. It struck me that they might have had their day. Which is a shame because I have a very nice rip off from Dunnes in a tasteful cognac shade Grin.

All London teenagers want Goyard now 😂
I still use my pliage on flights — have an all black and all navy and I’m a fan

mosaicbrokenhearts · 28/01/2025 18:58

I bought one for myself when my DD was 4, she’s now at secondary school and is using it for her school bag. In between that I used it as work bag, a holiday bag, a kids swimming kit bag, a shopping bag, a gym kit bag and an overnight stay bag. Everything really. They are simple and last ages.

They are the school bag of choice in my DD’s school. It’s not uncommon for girls to have several - one as their main school bag, one for sports kit and a small one as a lunch bag. The amount of money spent on them is insane to me - they’re not even waterproof which is crap when you’re walking to and from school/bus station every day. (And that’s before you even mention how bad it is to carry all the weight of a heavy school bag on one side, and how obvious it is which side they are carried on because the blazers are all worn down on one side at the shoulders too.)

My DDs don’t have them and won’t ever be getting them.

I can understand a grown woman getting one, but they are NOT worth the price

The girls are all using them as bags for their games kit at my daughter’s school too. I was surprised to see how popular they are as I think they are quite frumpy and meh but what do I know 🤷🏼‍♀️ - I wouldn’t use one. My daughter doesn’t seem to be bothered about them/ hasn’t asked for one.

Yes! My 17 year old uses one of my Goyards. One I never used. She sometimes takes a le pliage if it suits her outfit more. She's in 6th form and they can wear what they want.

Whilst I agree dark colours are easier, I don't know what your dd is doing with hers. My dd used mine and they still look great. The leather handles are looking a bit worn now but the nylon is immaculate.

Does your dd drag hers across the floor?

My dd uses one of my lesser used Goyard bags mostly now abs she keeps that in good nick too.

She's not overly precious with things. But she's not rough on things either.

Nope. Just regular day to day use at school! It was the standard bag at DD’s school and I don’t know of a singular girl who was able to use one for more than 2 years without getting a replacement - it certainly wasn’t just a DD issue. I love Longchamps and have 3 of my own but they don’t wear well, especially in the corners.

Lovethatforyouhun · 28/01/2025 20:52

Bottom edges go quickly for me. Definitely not bomb proof. Only last a few years tops.

To be fair 'a few years' is as much as I would expect for the price anyway

How long are people expecting a daily bag to last?

MissLambsAcademyForYoungLadies · 27/01/2025 21:10

Def not waterproof in heavy rain - plenty of girls at school have to dry books on the radiators when they arrive after walking up from the bus

My daughter has one and has never had soggy books. It's around 30 quid for a school bag and she's had this a few years already so it worked out when looking at use v spend. I did think it a bit much for a school bag but got it on offer and as an Xmas present

Sladequeen · 28/01/2025 23:30

I’ve had mine nearly fifteen years, it’s been my go-to bag, through two babies and toddlers , through all weathers as a non driver, through impromptu grocery shops (it really does fit more than you’d expect) and through many many laundry loads.
it looks well used and battered compared to my daughter’s new one but I can’t fault it for practicality and durability.
i’m going to investigate the corners thing , it would be lovely to give it a refresh.

I don't know what they are doing but both my DDs have had Pliages for 6 or 7 years now and use them every day and they are pretty well pristine

Also - when the corners go you just take them in to a Longchamp store and they mend them free of charge

Which is easy if you live near a Longchamp branch! We’d have to fly over to London or Edinburgh as it’s an in store only service. Have resorted to getting them posted over to a lovely lady in Scotland who specialises in fixing Longchamp corners.

BugBugTheTornado · 29/01/2025 16:45

I never wanted one, then bought a knock off amazon jobbie as a holiday bag in November (transitioning from having a nappy bag to potty trained but needing wipes and spare pants, so not quite handbag level yet)

Loved it so much DH bought me a proper one for Christmas. Haven't used anything else since!

viques · 29/01/2025 16:52

I love mine ( I also have the little backpack one for days when I am travelling light) Although I do lose things in its depths because it is amazing how much it can carry.

I like spotting other people carrying them, actually think we ought to have a secret hand signal to acknowledge each other - apparently in the olden days RAC motorbike riders used to salute cars with RAC logos screwed onto their bumpers. Not a salute, but maybe a little wave.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 29/01/2025 17:10

Do teens carry actual Goyard totes?
Because that really is a lot of money to spend on a school bag!

TheCraicDealer · 29/01/2025 17:17

The other great thing about them is that they weigh nothing, so when I go back to a traditional leather shoulder bag I actually baulk at the weight of it. Fantastic for folding up to bring on holiday for the same reason.

I have a couple, including a beige one I use to carry my laptop in when I go to site visits or the office. It might be sacrilegious to some but I fuck them in the washing machine when they get too grubby and they always come out looking great.

Mt dd uses one of mine. It was a dud purchase for me. Bad colour and choice of model. But she likes it.
I could have sold it I guess but I get more joy out of her using it

I agree. My dd uses mine that I'd already owned for years. They still look good b

onegreyhair · 29/01/2025 19:05

I have been using various sizes of them on and off for years as has my daughter. The liners from ebay are useful if you are using them as a handbag. you can also buy flat liner things for the bottom of the bag so it doesn't loose its shape (amazon or ebay)

I didn't know you could wash them in the washing machine, what happens to the leather straps? If you can wash them, that would be really useful because spot cleaning leaves water marks.

Re repairing the corners when they are frayed, if you turn the bag inside out, you can see the bottom has a line of machine sewing at each side. I am not good at sewing but I do have a sewing machine. I machined a new line up from the old line and then cut off the old bit with the frayed corners. (sorry but I can't think how else to explain it). The downside is that it makes the bottom of the bag wider, but once I'd stopped cursing at my own sewing incompetence, I went back to using the bag as before and forgot about it.

I would think a shoe repair person or alterations person could easily machine a new bottom line. Its a very easy job.

Another hint, a friend bought a bag with short handles which she couldn't get on with and she had the longer handles taken off an old bag and resewn on her new bag by shoe repair person.

LoafofSellotape · 29/01/2025 20:44

I always said they look like Roy Cropper bags but I was given one and I love it as it's so useful. It's so handy to fold up and pop in a suitcase or for shopping or whatever. So I'm a convert!

MayaPinion · 29/01/2025 20:52

They weigh nothing, they fold up into nothing, they hold everything, and they’re timeless. I have a couple and my favorite is the big luggage bag. It holds tonnes of stuff and yet still easily fits into the cabin bag category.
