Whatever your politics, Melania looks amazing.

m There has been some criticism for her outfit today as being too funereal but the coat was dark navy, not black. She and Usha are sartorially exquisite today.

It's not a 'miss' it's a sign. This is exactly what she means to say

'I'm perfect, unapproachable and an enigma '

She knows he couldn't kiss her, she knows you won't see her eyes. She means every inch of it. Very clever.

Once this is done she'll be out of there for the next four years.

As much as I loathe the pair of them, i have to say Melanie does give good inauguration.

Ivanka also looked fabulous.

Jill Biden looked lovely. Luckily Kamala's beautiful smile makes up for her lack of sartorial elegance.

Agree with all of this and the previous comment that Melania's hat was deliberately worn so that Donald couldn't kiss her.

Usha Vance looked exquisite!

poetryandwine · 20/01/2025 19:51

Melania is usually elegant and today was no exception. The hat was sartorially offputting and I thought that was deliberate. Although the cut, the material and Melania herself are beautiful there was nonetheless a whiff of Mary Poppins.

LambriniBobInIsleworthISeesYa · 20/01/2025 19:56

I can't believe people like this look; I think that she looked really awful. You couldn't see her face! The hat was a weird shape! The colour was really boring. Not my cup of tea.

Dabralor · 20/01/2025 20:02

Melania was giving low-level Al Capone mob boss energy in that outfit.
Don't know what message that sends to us all, but heaven help us.

Gman1 · 20/01/2025 20:06

Heard her coat had a big swastika on the back and a sponsered by tesla label.

MatrhewWilliamson · 20/01/2025 20:19

It real was the “f off and don’t mess with me” look, wasn’t it?

She 100% did it on purpose, that's the whole point.

PetuliaGuardino · 20/01/2025 20:32

Bloody hell there are some seriously bitchy comments on here.😒
Sartorially, Melanie never puts a foot wrong, and she looked great today.
Looking forward to seeing the evening 'geowns' in the DM tomorrow!

CaveMum · 20/01/2025 20:35

Ah but what a good hat to wear if you’re trying to cover up the fact that it’s actually a Melania-clone?! 😜

<tongue firmly in cheek, obv>

Nightmarewithdelirium · 20/01/2025 20:36

She looked like a cartoon villain or the evil headmistress of a Parisian boarding school...
Which I suppose is not necessarily a bad way to look

Notmyregularusrname · 20/01/2025 20:41

I assumed the hat was to cover up botched filler/botox (🐈)

Doggymummar · 20/01/2025 20:42

I didn't recognise her husband, without the orange tan he could have been anybody.

This. Melania looked fabulous and always does. Usha looked great too. Both of them looked very classy

HopingForTheBest25 · 20/01/2025 19:23

I was reading that lots of designers won't work with her because they disapprove of DT - so rude. She clearly doesn't need them - she looks amazing.

I'd call that having principles.

MilitantFawcett · 20/01/2025 20:55

Melania always looks like she’s wearing a costume, today was no different. The clothes wear her rather than the other way around.

He's been looking a lot better this time round. Better looking than before.

goingdownfighting · 20/01/2025 21:03

I think they dressed almost but not quite British Royals.

ForPearlViper · 20/01/2025 21:04

Fashion should look effortless. Melanie never looks effortless. She never looks relaxed in her clothes - they always wear her.

HopingForTheBest25 · 20/01/2025 21:15

I still maintain that it's rude to refuse to dress the First Lady. It's not about the personalities, it's about respecting the office of President in a democracy - no one can argue that DT didn't win a landslide victory, so to disrespect her by refusing to be publicly associated, is disrespectful to the choices and results which occur in a democracy. IMO anyway.

I doubt the fashion industry is objecting on principle - they just don't want to alienate other rich celebrities. The fashion industry is just protecting its bread and butter business, but I still think it's rude to refuse to work with people who disagree with you - MT will be representing their nation on a world stage.

Hopefully she will take the opportunity to promote up and coming designers.

Onecanonlyhopeitwillhappensoon · 20/01/2025 21:18

Both Melania's hat and her grim outfit screamed don't see me, don't look at me, don't approach me.
She does that very well and it's not a secret how much she values her privacy.
Never seen without huge sunglasses outdoors, she clearly wasn't trying to impress anyone but rather fade into the background.
In one photo, with that hat that allowed no one to look into her eyes, she looked quite masculine and hard.

Ivanka on the other hand looked well dressed for the occasion.
The colour of her well cut suit was subdued, yet still attractive, and the beret style was perfect for covering her hair, which gave her an air of serious yet glamorous.

marshmallowhearts · 20/01/2025 21:37

It did feel a bit funereal when I first saw it (didn’t recognise it was navy and not black). Stylish but boring. I thought she looked tired/old/not her best at Carter’s funeral so maybe she was hiding some face work behind the hat (I don’t mean this to criticise MT as I don’t care either way about her).

Usha Vance and Ivanka’s outfits were lovely. I also had a soft spot for Tiffany’s cuddly-looking blue coat (velvet?) and Jill Biden’s purple was gorgeous (v politic too!)

DancingHippos · 20/01/2025 21:42

I think Usha Vance looked very stylish

Sampler · 20/01/2025 21:43

Excellent hat choice for Melania, a trump proof brim. He couldn’t get near her without cutting himself and she obviously dislikes him. Would be interesting to know what their ‘arrangement’ really is.

ChannelFiveDrama · 20/01/2025 21:50

I thought she looked like she was off for a bit of dressage or something after.
