It’s so disappointing!

I spotted a cropped suit jacket at M&S that I thought would really suit me as I am short. Really wanted the matching trousers and there were no sizes online or near me so I made a long trip to track them down. Visualised myself wearing the suit to work and looking really cold and professional.

Alas - there is just too much fabric in the wrong places in the trousers. I tried them on about a gazillion times, trying to convince myself that they looked good - but I had a to accept that I looked like Charlie Chaplin. I am just glad that I did admit defeat because in the past I have bought things against my own better judgment. (I did keep the jacket - I think it will look good with other things.)

I lusted after a pair of vintage earrings on Ebay for over a year. I thought they were the most beautiful earrings I'd ever seen. They weren't selling because they were massively overpriced, so they just sat there in my watch list, torturing me. Eventually I cracked and bought them. They are truly beautiful ... they don't suit me. At all. Sooooooo disappointing.

I have done this in the past, but after a couple of bad experiences I don’t dare to do it again. It’s quite difficult to find someone good at doing extensive alterations.

I don't think those trousers look good on the model either, tbh.

🤣 I went to cos to try on the lovely loose tailored wool trouser. I looked ridiculous, I thought my DH was going to wet himself laughing.

When black leather biker jackets were in a few years ago I tried one on, absolutely horrendous on me!!
My sister also loved them, when she tried one on she said they were awful on her as-well……and they looked so good on some people!

I think COS clothes only look really good on tall slender people….which I’m not unfortunately

Tried on a gorgeous Seasalt dress in an unusual print (not floral) and I looked like a 55 year old schoolgirl (was a while ago...!). Really grim.

I had my hair done for a wedding a few years ago. I asked for boho waves and a loose updo. I looked like this:

Mine is a pair of earrings my sister had. After many months of shameless hint dropping , she finally caved and gave them to me. They don’t stand out at all ,because of my hair and their shape, so it’s pointless wearing them.

So does the model. She needs a dressing gown over it Crocs would be an improvement on the wellies.

My problem is my mental image of myself (slender, willowy yet curvy) does not match my ACTUAL image (short legs, big boobs) so I perpetually struggle to find any clothes that don't make me look either as though my bum is scraping the ground or like a transvestite Dalek impersonator. I can't wear heels either, so the curse of the stumpy legs is with me for life. I'm a size 10 and I work hard to stay in shape, yet...whatever I wear I look as though I'm five stone overweight.

Flares! I bought a pair of flared jeans recently they just make me look wide and like I have a massive arse. Shame as they're really comfortable.

I'll be sticking with skinnies which show off my good legs.

Currently deciding on my latest purchase of chunky Chelsea boots that arrived today.. I've tried on about 8 pairs so far in store and this is my second attempt online.

Every pair on me look like welly boots or clown feet (including these I fear) because I am still a stumpy person with size 7 feet.

Same @vroomfondleswaistcoat For instance I love the look of capri pants. In my head I'll look like Audrey Hepburn in them. The reality is different.

@Peaceatlast01 Yes, I know what you mean, but it's true, honest! They're red and white rhinestones with a fan of gold (plate) points, from the late 60s. They make me look like the sort of woman who would drink too much and start a fight on the street with a total stranger. I'm sure it's because of the red stones - I think they would be lovely with just white rhinestones, and I'm on the look-out for an all-white pair. I need to get around to selling them on. They are gorgeous off, and I'm sure there is someone for them out there.

I bought a fab Cos dress for my daughters graduation and teamed it with Docs. Thought I looked bloody interesting and intelligent and ...well cool! Ive just looked at the photos my DH took I look like a wheelie bin with me mam's curtains wrapped round

@Gatekeeper Awwww, I'm sure you didn't! Photos can be very cruel, and not accurate.

Boots in funky colours. I look like a clown.

Also, 99% of Chelsea boots. They make my legs look even shorter and fatter than nature intended.

My friend, who is effortlessly stylish, had a fur jacket that she would throw over all sorts of outfits and look wonderful. I ordered one in a beautiful frosted grey colour only to find I looked like a silverback gorilla
