A new thread to share 'shopping from our wardrobes' so we realise we already have nice things to wear and don't need to buy anything else.

26 merino hoodies! Wow -- where are they from, @Netcam ? (I tend to buy garments I like in all the colours, which is why I have 5 identically styled Land's End square-necked long-sleeved tshirts, and 6 pairs of Saint & Sofia Camden trousers....)

henlake7 · 21/03/2025 20:42

Well, I'm a big fat failure this month. Vinted definitely saw me coming!
Bought 2 pairs of cords from M&S and Joanie, a pair of light wash denim dungarees for summer and 3 Joanie jumpers.
I'm a sucker for those jumpers, especially if I can get them for under a tenner! I rarely pay more then £15 for something but it all adds up.

SqueakyDinosaur · 21/03/2025 20:51

It does, but absolutely nothing like it would if you were paying full price for it. Basically you're getting really lovely clothes for Primark prices. And also, you aren't buying new, and that's environmentally friendly. Obviously, eventually you need to get rid of stuff you already have, but....

I've built up quite a collection of them from end of season sales over the years, they are mainly Icebreaker or Smartwool. I have thinner and thicker ones in different colours. I like walking and hiking and merino is great for that, but they also work well as general wear for UK Spring, Autumn and Summer. I have various colours and thicknesses including really thin ones for summer and thicker ones for colder weather, some zip up and some pullover style.

Ooh,some gorgeous colours there!

Cantonet · 22/03/2025 12:36

I know what you mean about the M&S poses @SqueakyDinosaur. Just pose front on for god's sake so I can see what the clothes look like.
I took the cream skirt off when I got home. It won't last long with a hairy smelly spaniel on my lap.
Plus i was the only one wafting about in cream in town yesterday. Although it was 17°.
@Netcam. I'm seriously impressed by your number of hoodies. It's rivalling my Cashmere collection ☺️

Cantonet · 22/03/2025 12:43

@henlake7your Vinted Haul sounds great.
Repurposing clothes is far more useful than tossing them aside. This reminds me i need to do a big eBay listing for my summer stuff. I always seem to leave it slightly too late in the season.

henlake7 · 22/03/2025 14:02

@Cantonet Vinted have been a real money saver for me when replacing my wardrobe. 😃
Just dropped a bag of clothes off at the charity shop today as well. Ive already donated all my XLs and now Im down to Ms that are too big! Not to mention I still have a few things I bought when losing weight and trying to work out my style.

Cantonet · 22/03/2025 14:48

I try & sell mine first @henlake7. If they're not in a good condition or they don't sell, then I donate them. I have lots of summer items that are too big on me now. The nice thing is I'm fitting into clothes & re-discovering things I haven't worn in years. Sadly I'm definitely a different shape & my waist is a lot bigger than it used to be.

WillaDeWord · 22/03/2025 18:09

Difficult week this week. Unexpected death in DH's family (she was only 24) but still had board meetings and a conference to get through. Looking at my outfit pictures this week, they definitely reflect my dour feelings (!)

On the plus side, have just picked up a job lot of things from the seamstress. Items I have had for ages but didn't wear because they weren't quite right. She has, as always, done a superb job. Absolutely agree with @Cantonet about repurposing.

And am also enjoying seeing the colours @Netcam. I do a fair bit of walking / hiking and keep meaning to take a look at Icebreaker.

@WillaDeWordso sorry to hear about the loss in your family, how tragic.

I recommend Icebreaker for hiking, although prices are high, I only ever buy in the sales. I have so many hoodies because I couldn't resist those sale prices, but stopped buying any more quite a while ago. I have lots of their merino long sleeved tops and t-shirts too, they are my staples year round.

Cantonet · 24/03/2025 11:51

@WillaDeWordthats so very sad for her family. I can understand you feeling rather sombre.
I hope this week is a little better.

WillaDeWord · 29/03/2025 13:42

Thank you both. This week the shock has worn off a little, but now planning funeral outfits. Always sad to see parents bury their children.

SqueakyDinosaur · 30/03/2025 00:21

So dreadful, @WillaDeWord . I'm so sorry. I hope her funeral will be healing for all her family, but that is so much too young.

Cantonet · 30/03/2025 11:00

I have a confession to make. I bought this really pretty skirt a couple of weeks ago. It's been sitting in my wardrobe looking gorgeously out at me. But I haven't worn it. It fits me around the hips but I can't fasten the waist. So I'm returning it. Another sign was I hadn't actually added it to the Whering App.
I've bought a few things & returned a lot recently.
I know I won't wear things that are too tight & uncomfortable. I only tend to wear ' relaxed' clothes. So jackets/coats that I can push the arms up are fine. Anything that's itchy I can't wear. Or with tags in the wrong place that rub my back/neck.

Attached is the very pretty blue skirt plus a couple of this weeks outfits.

@Cantonet, well done for returning it, I'm the same as you, I don't like things feeling too tight.

I really like your black/white check skirt with the white tank top.

We're going away in the UK soon (hiking trip) so trying to figure out what to bring in this changeable weather. Just know a gotetex jacket will be part of it. Despite wanting to bring my favourite clothes for good holiday photos, I need to think 'practical' for our trip!

Hello all! Totally and completely fell off the wagon this month. Sigh.
I think I've been avoiding this thread as punishment to myself, so I don't have to face up to what I've bought 🙈

Apparently stripes are featuring well in my spring wardrobe- I'm such a cliche- along with the red. I'm very happy to get my fisherman sandals out too!

And my purchases this month- I dont know what I've admitted to so far, so I'll just list them all:

Leopard print wide leg jeans
A pair of cos culottes from Vinted that are a tiny bit small so I may sell on, but I've been looking for this style for ages
2 TK Maxx casual t-shirts
A h&M dark grey tshirt, a black linen shirt, a stripe top
An m&s long sleeve khaki top from the outlet
A fantastic but strange purple sweatshirt with a beaded lobster on from Next
A velvet mini skirt from the Arket sale
A leopard waistcoat/ top from h&M that I've still kept in the maybe pile
Still not decided on last month's cream cropped jeans, but as they haven't been worn yet, I should return

A DKNY polka dot dress from TK Maxx that is absolutely something I should avoid, as it's too smart for regular wear, it's classic not fashionable when I'm trying to make my wardrobe more current, it didn't have pockets, and I prefer a maxi dress at the moment, and this is a midi. But you know when you try a dress on, it fits perfectly, and you know your other half will love it on you? Exactly that! So it's staying, and I think it will be worn to my daughter's graduation in July, and I've told him he needs to take me out somewhere smart to wear it 😁

I've also got a red linen maxi skirt in a basket, which is almost definitely getting bought, given how much red I've worn lately.

So, yeah, failure of a month!
10 definite keeps (most of which have been worn already), 3 maybes, and one to buy.
Apparently change of season is as bad if a time for me as sales. I'm going to stick this in the other thread as well.

Netcam · 31/03/2025 10:58

@anon2022anonthank you for confessing your purchases. I agree change of season can be difficult.

I think you should keep the polka dot dress. If you're anything like me it's hard to find a great dress. And when you need one for an event there is nothing out there. Being classic it will last and it will be great for your daughter's graduation. Photos please!

I also bought a polka dot dress recently that also is probably a bit too smart for regular wear but not quite posh enough for dressing up, but I rarely dress up! I've kept it anyway, it's linen which I love, it's petite size which is hard to find in the right dress. DH also thought it looked really good on me. I've decided I can dress it down with trainers or sandals without the belt or dress it up for the rare occasion that I need to dress up.

I love a polka dot.
I was quite good in March and only bought a grey cardi from the M&S Sale, a white linen V neck Tshirt and a pale blue sweat shirt from Zara with Snoopy on because it made me feel happy.
I did order three pairs of trainers but they have all gone back because they weren’t quite right.
And I’ve just ordered some jeans from M&S.

Shopping from wardrobe trip planning photos!

For info, we are going hiking in the peak district, so I'm not bringing my silk shirts and pretty dresses.

I'm at least trying to be colour co-ordinated, but imagine most days will be wearing hiking trousers, walking shoes and a goretex jacket!

It was fun and useful to be able to create some outfits and a visual packing list on the Whering App.
