Looking older than my age

stargir · 31/12/2024 11:41

Age 53 with nasolabial folds and dryish skin. I have never really worn much make up and have been using a tiny amount of Bourgois gel foundation to even out my skin tone along with Olay retinol 24 night cream and Olay regenerist day cream. I have tried all sorts of moisturisers and foundations but I am feeling really low with how old I look and wondered if anyone could recommend some sort of tinted moisturiser or other product that could give me a bit of glow, I was on the point of ordering some trinny London BFF de-stress cream but that has mixed reviews and I can’t afford to waste money. I hate thick make up and would never consider fillers or Botox as I have a fear of needles and don’t have tons of money to spend on beauty. I do wonder if years of running have caused the sagging of my skin so know I mainly do cycling and gym classes. Any suggestions?

I did the dermatica consultation and photos last night and they prescribed niacinamide which I can get otc so I cancelled the subscription, what should I have said to get tret?

My Dermatica prescription is Tretinoin plus niacinamide. You need to ask them the reason for your prescription- perhaps they think you look so good that you don’t need Tretinoin!

I buy it online from a Spanish pharmacy, been doing that for years and have never had a problem. They aren't allowed to advertise it any more, so I just email them and it arrives within the week usually.

How did you pay for it? I went to pay ( think it was the one in Andorra) but when I put my card details in, it then asked me to do a transfer, which I wasn’t happy about.

@Sonant
Weird response to op's post!

I hate to say it but you definitely look at least 52

Why would you 'hate' to say it?

You quite clearly take pleasure in saying it.

You enjoy saying it.

It's fine to say what you want to say.

Don't dress it up in fancy clothes.

If you think I'm an annoying arse, just say it.

Prescription Tret. Retinol is useless. Takes 10 years off. I get it very cheap overseas but you can get it from Skin and Me or Dermatica.

Hi where do you buy it overseas please? Is it still prescription there or over the counter?

Totally agree, helpful it certainly isn't

This is a super weird thing to do, the OP didn't ask for people to post selfies of them also looking older than they are and pouting like a 19 year old on Instagram.

This poster does it all the time on these threads under various usernames, it’s most bizarre, I just scroll on by and roll my eyes.

Yalta · 20/01/2025 18:17

Like everyone else has said Tretinoin which you use then overlay it with a thick cheap moisturiser

PeachyKeane · 20/01/2025 18:20

Yes, I use the skin and me tret, then a thick layer of moisturiser and I seal with a layer of vaseline over that. That's at bedtime. Lucky I'm single 😅

Lol, doesn't it get all over your pillow? What strength do you use?

PeachyKeane · 20/01/2025 19:54

I just get a low one from Skin and me. Its worked absolute wonders though.

Yes, you have to sleep carefully.....

I use it towards the end of the evening and by the time I go to bed it has pretty much sunk in.

I have very dry skin so it can all sink in within minutes. Once went for a facial many years ago and the beautician put a thick creamy mask on my face and left me for 15 minutes. She couldn’t believe that there was nothing left when she returned

It's the pouting, selfie, vanity element I didn't much like ...

She's been doing it for years under various usernames.

LaMarschallin · 21/01/2025 07:33

It's interesting that sonat hasn't replied to Harvestmoon49's post yesterday at 17:54.
She's usually quite keen to dash in and defend her unusual tendency to post multiple selfies.

PS It doesn't seem possible to @ sonat as, on preview, I'm told "Some of the mentioned usernames do not exit".
Probably wise to name change given that Harvestmoon49's points would hard for
her to answer, imo.

LaMarschallin · 21/01/2025 07:46

Ah, no. Fair play, @Sonant does still exist.
Colour me embarrassed.

onwardsup4 · 21/01/2025 11:06

Not sure if I agree with posters about the woman who posts selfies. Yea her skin looks pretty good but she looks like your average fifty odd year old doesn't she? First one messy hair etc it's not like she's posting picture perfect selfies that any one would be jealous of. Yes it's a bit odd but I believe her when she says it's about feeling good in your own skin ?

Harvestmoon49 · 21/01/2025 13:52

So jumping back in to join the tret discussion!
I'm 53 and thinking it's time to better my skincare routine...
I've looked at skin & me and I'm so confused! Can I not just order a tretinion cream? I filled in the questionnaire and was recommended a 3 step programme for acne prone skin?
Anywhere else I can try or general recommendations?

I must admit I'm surprised she hasn't reappeared?
Name change I suspect!

Does this tret help with sun spots?

PeachyKeane · 21/01/2025 14:54

MabelMora · 21/01/2025 14:26

Does this tret help with sun spots?

Yes, my skin was very badly sun damaged to my shame. It's cleared it completely.

MabelMora · 21/01/2025 16:57

Really?! Do you have any before and after pics if possible? Not your whole face obviously, just cropped to show a cheek or something? No problem if you'd rather not.

JaneJeffer · 21/01/2025 18:32

@LaMarschallin the @ thing isn't working properly. I asked MN about it here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/5256981-at-not-working-on-app but got no response.

Oh, thank you!
I hate getting things wrong but that did seem to go a bit pear-shaped.
