Looking older than my age

stargir · 31/12/2024 11:41

Age 53 with nasolabial folds and dryish skin. I have never really worn much make up and have been using a tiny amount of Bourgois gel foundation to even out my skin tone along with Olay retinol 24 night cream and Olay regenerist day cream. I have tried all sorts of moisturisers and foundations but I am feeling really low with how old I look and wondered if anyone could recommend some sort of tinted moisturiser or other product that could give me a bit of glow, I was on the point of ordering some trinny London BFF de-stress cream but that has mixed reviews and I can’t afford to waste money. I hate thick make up and would never consider fillers or Botox as I have a fear of needles and don’t have tons of money to spend on beauty. I do wonder if years of running have caused the sagging of my skin so know I mainly do cycling and gym classes. Any suggestions?

It's the pouting, selfie, vanity element I didn't much like ...

Heaven forbid a woman has confidence in her appearance and the temerity to believe she’s aging well. She posted as an example of the results you can achieve with tret and FWIW I think she’s a good advert for it.

You seem overly invested in defending a total stranger who may or may not have posted a photo of themselves or some complete random on the internet ... It's just not the norm to put pictures of yourself (pouting) on mnet on someone else's thread. No one else has have they?

I’m not overly invested in that poster although I am invested in women not tearing other women down. Every time someone posts a photo on MN there are a rush of trolls to tell her how awful and old she looks.

Spiderlover · 18/01/2025 11:01

Loads of people come to these threads to see if there are any photos along with tips. I don’t see how @sonant has done anything wrong. While I don’t tend to pout in photos (not least because it emphasises my bloody wrinkled lips!), it’s obvious her skin looks great.
Quite frankly, aren’t most of us a bit vain if we visit threads like this? I’m not sure why the fact she’s pouting makes sonant deserving of some of these comments.

Anyway OP, I know how you feel. I go through real ups and downs with respect to middle age. Some days I feel like I don’t care about my looks anymore, and I’m lucky to have the privilege of ageing and be able to do things I enjoy and not care about my appearance, and yet other days I feel really miserable about it as I watch my face become increasingly saggy, knowing it’s only going one way! I’m still waiting for the
time when I’m at peace with it.

This is a super weird thing to do, the OP didn't ask for people to post selfies of them also looking older than they are and pouting like a 19 year old on Instagram.

This poster often jumps into random threads to post a selfie, it's her thing. She doesn't need an excuse to stun us all with her awesome middle-aged pouty beauty.

Perhaps read what @Kashmiri24 just above has to say on the subject concerned

Brokeinto · 18/01/2025 12:57

@StormingNorman ps I never comment on the 'how old am I' threads that folk start with a picture btw ☺️ just to reassure, it was only this blatantly odd one that caught my eye

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/01/2025 13:47

Is it your reflection or your photo ?

I see my reflection that I'm used to , I think "Yes , okay"
I have good cheekbones , slight baginess round the jaw but I am 58 .

There is a mirror in the lift that is slightly tinted , I think My God , I'm gorgeous (Dick Solomon from 3rd Rock From the Sun quote there Grin )

Then I see a photo , or one of those reflection in a reflection mirrors and it isn't me . I sometimes look like one side of my face has slipped . It hasn't but my dodgy eyebrow is now the reverse and I;m not used to my teeth being reverse image .

I looked at some Before/After pictures on a gallery for a very reknowned and acclaimed cosmetic surgeon ( thread on S&B about facelfts )
Most of them looked better . None of them looked "WTF has she done to her face"
But in the aftershots ...they were smiling . In the before , they weren't .

I did the dermatica consultation and photos last night and they prescribed niacinamide which I can get otc so I cancelled the subscription, what should I have said to get tret?

sunshinechaser · 18/01/2025 14:49

@Doggymummar when you picked your skin concerns did you choose 'ageing'? I thought they would automatically add tret if you did. Just reply to their email where they recommended niacinamide and ask for tretinoin too. If you don't see an email just email them. They reply pretty quick (usually same day).

Doggymummar · 18/01/2025 16:20

Thanks. I think I ticked every box ! I already told them I wasn't interested. Perhaps I'll try again in a while.

Lentilweaver · 31/12/2024 11:43

Prescription Tret. Retinol is useless. Takes 10 years off. I get it very cheap overseas but you can get it from Skin and Me or Dermatica.

All retinols are not useless. Some people can not tolerate tretinoin. A high strength retinol can still help but it will take much longer to see results. Retinal is a good inbetween

PeachyKeane · 18/01/2025 16:36

🙄 does it matter

Sonant · 20/01/2025 04:01

Of course it doesn't matter.

It really doesn't matter.

I think that's always been my point.

Which is why I always post my pictures.

Not because I love myself, but because I love women.

You can argue amongst yourselves about me.

I do not care.

The conversation is the thing.

Why do we do the thing?

I thought it was her….again! If you’re posting on a thread to recommend a skin product and want to show a photo, show a normal day to day one. instead it’s always one with weird angles, lighting and pouting.

Sonant · 20/01/2025 04:27

You two.

This poster!!

Her again!!

I’m going to mention it because no one else has yet, but do you drink plenty of water? That can make a big difference, hydrate from the inside.

Agree, and if you run outdoors always put spf on your face and neck and hands before leaving the house. I smother with it as i run x country. And lip balm.

I use face oil and hot cloth cleanser. Then a no 7 original serum. The cream makes my face sag,

Aveeno is good. Avocado and oily fish, lots of sleep and water, knock off booze, get a new haircut, maybe some highlights or choppy curls, make sure you aren't wearing colours round your face which drag it down. No black!

MsDastardley · 20/01/2025 07:02

Thanks @PeachyKeane just used the referral code. Now to do some selfies! Noticed a small age spot on cheek recently, so have been thinking about upgrading skincare routine

onwardsup4 · 20/01/2025 07:30

How does that prescription thing work then, I think I'll try it. Does it always include Tret? Am clueless

onwardsup4 · 20/01/2025 07:31

Skin and me i mean

sunshinechaser · 20/01/2025 07:32

@onwardsup4 it depends what skincare concerns you have. I think if you pick ageing as a skincare concern you'll get tret. In any case they'll email you with what they think you would benefit from. If tret isn't included in your formula just ask for it at that stage.

Thanks 👌 😊 it works amazingly well. My skin is so clear now, I hardly need to wear any make-up.
