My final maxi arrived (that I ordered after the disappointment of getting the small cranberry Bantry in my early order having taken the email containing the prices at face value, to see if I could get something larger) ... you've guessed it ... a black small Bantry 🤣 - I won't add a picture as you've all seen plenty of them!

I have no use for three small bags in this style so this one will be going back (I already have a mellow camo from last year's dip I take to Brownies, and then the cranberry one that I could use for football ... am struggling to think of a third purpose!)

I've dropped them an email to ask if there are any more medium or large in the dips to see if worth reordering (as I saw upthread a comment that they'd got none left) and to ask for a return as my order is still showing as preparing ... otherwise I could be in an endless loop of dipping, receiving and returning small Bantry bags!

GreyBlackBay · 06/01/2025 17:53

I've really enjoyed the lucky dip tbh. I like the surprise element and seeing what other people recieved.

I'd never had their bags before but quality looks good and I've now got my eye on a few for summer when I decide what colours I'm using fur my holidays.

I think most of the complaints have been about size so roka probably need a 'fits a laptop' category for the next dip, if they ever dare to do it again.

Please let us know when you hear from them?

I've just this morning ordered a maxi dip after about a week of indecision. Hoping for a medium anything in a blue or darker colour.

Don't like light colours at all

I liked the purple tote up thread!

Is the quality of the Trafalgar really that bad? I have my eyes on some on Vinted as a present for mum, that’s the only bag shape she’d use and it’s the right size for all her things. The all black ones with the minimalistic colour hardware looks ok?

I got a black one with teal hardware for my second maxi dip (1st was a large Finchley which I love). I’m pleasantly surprised - in the black it doesn’t look cheap (& I’m normally a mulberry girl), it’s a really good size and really comfy on the shoulder. Even my 16 year old son said it looked good.

MinstrelGirl · 06/01/2025 19:25

If anyone is considering selling a large Finchley in red, Mineral or Ash - please let me know!

LuckyDuckyRoka · 06/01/2025 20:40

Anyone looking for a medium Neon Pink Canfield? I would be looking for swaps for a tote or similar style bag in blues, purples and greens 😊

Marmaladegin · 06/01/2025 20:52

@IlovePond if you want a swap for the tote I have a black and purple Canfield medium...?

theelectricnorth · 06/01/2025 21:27

Would anyone be interested in swapping anything for a Trafalgar purple tote? 😊

Marmaladegin · 06/01/2025 21:31

Yes meee!

Marmaladegin · 06/01/2025 21:37

I'll pm you and cross fingers

IlovePond · 06/01/2025 22:46

Glad it worked out for you @Marmaladegin and @theelectricnorth - DH is using his to store laptop, so it’s not a complete waste for me.

Uneasypeasy · 06/01/2025 22:54

@winewolfhowls - I'll report back when I hear from them!

AsWithGlad · 06/01/2025 23:37

In school (teaching) I normally use a Radley tote to carry things round in. When one wears out I buy another.

I’ve just received a medium Trafalgar B, all black with ‘corn capsule’ which means the zip pull, the zip across the top and both internal zips are corn coloured. It also has a laptop sleeve, where I’ll put my iPad.

It’s at least as good as the more expensive Radley ones I am used to and would be perfect if I didn’t dislike yellow. 😉 At least they stand out against the dark lining, making them easy to find.

KittenPause · 06/01/2025 23:46

I think they should do a separate lottery for each size back pack ie small, med or large

Separate midi lottery for all the other bags

Separate for all the other random very small bags hats brollies etc

androbbob · 07/01/2025 06:12

On the back of what others have said I have just emailed ROKA as I too got a small Bantry B from a maxi lucky dip and ordered on the 27th before the t&c change.
I got one in emerald and willing to sell on if they don’t accept a return

If I remember rightly, that's pretty much how it was structured last year. Not sure why they've messed with the formula this year (well, presumably for revenue, but it looks like it's backfiring on them!)

TwirlyPineapple · 07/01/2025 12:12

I ordered two more maxi lucky dips on Saturday and they arrived today. I got a small Bantry in custard and a medium trafalgar creative waste in black.

I'm torn whether to keep the small bantry because I do love the colour and it is still a good bag for £30. I think it might just be too small though.

I definitely won't keep the trafalgar, it's not my style and I don't like black. I love bright colours and am looking for a medium sized backpack, so if anyone is interested in a swap, let me know!

YellowPlate · 07/01/2025 12:32

My 'replacement' bag arrived yesterday - I love it, really pleased! They do seem like a lovely company, I hope the rest of the LD goes well for them.

This is how it was done last year. The issue more is that whichever way they write it, people won't accept the small backpacks are part of the big dip. No matter what the name the most expensive dip or how clear in the text it says "all backpacks will be in the maxi dip" you get those that will say "i expected a bag to fit my laptop". Even with the small bantry issue there is no promise for a laptop bag. there was nowhere near this level of complaints last year though, people accepted they'd taken a risk if they got a small backpack as it's a lucky dip and there was a lot of swapping both on here and Facebook. Unfortunately mumsnet has become a place to moan rather than swap which is what it was always intended for.

I just checked my email from last year, I went for the ‘large luxuries’ as maxi was called then and I got a small Bantry so they were definitely sending sending out small Bantrys for the large last year. Although I did get a really ugly special print so maybe that pushed it into the higher price bracket?

mauvish · 07/01/2025 12:48

I'm still waiting for my "replacement" maxi, but have taken my small Bantry B for a day trip today, and this is what I've crammed in:

Mini umbrella; pair of gloves; phone; credit card wallet; phone charger and flex; mascara, eyeliner; small pot of Vaseline; small wallet of my meds; 500ml water bottle; an apple; a boxed piece of cake; a paperback novel; and temporarily, a rolled up sweater (cashmere so it folds up small). Yes, it still zipped up, and there was still a tiny bit of space to spare in the main compartment, whilst the external pocket was empty.

So no, it won't hold my laptop, but it will hold a lot of other stuff!

IlovePond · 07/01/2025 12:52

Re: My lilac Trafalgar - it has turned out to be a bit too small for DH’s laptop, so I have repurposed it as my new work bag. It’s getting its first outing tomorrow. Tbf, all my work stuff has fitted in nicely. I think I was a bit mean to it yesterday, (but I still dislike the colour!)

I am attaching a picture of the lilac beastie to show there’s still lots of room in it! The front pocket seems a bit creased/faulty - but I think ROKA did say that some stock wasn’t perfect, so fair enough.

I see other people have been getting the small Bantry/Trafalgar combo too - presumably these are the ‘boxes’ ROKA are on now.

BTW: Did anyone get a response to the query regarding if small Bantry bags were the only LD backpacks left? I actually quite like mine - it’s very cute, (and, whilst that Custard colour certainly makes a statement, it’s not too bad a colour once I got over the initial shock at its yellowness😹)

Also, what are ROKA’s non-LD sales like? I do quite fancy ordering a bigger backpack in a colour/style of my choosing, but not at full price.

Thanks

Roka lucky dip.

The backpacks have never been in the midi dip, small medium and large bags all in the most expensive dip both this year and last

manpan1 · 07/01/2025 13:08

@Loverofbags I just checked my orders from last year - hadn't thought of looking back to compare! There were Midi Marvels for £19.95, Large Luxuries for £29.95 and Lucky Dip Backpacks for £29.95. All backpacks were £29.95.
Same as this year.
I think the only confusion was that some small bantry bags this year cost £54.95 and the lower price range should have been a fiver more. But many of the small bantry bags cost £59.95 or £64.95 so still met the t&cs.

manpan1 · 07/01/2025 13:08

@Loverofbags Also.... didn't realise just how many I ordered last year! I feel virtuous for my restraint this season
