‘Fancy’ every day bag

I have a massive leather shoulder bag that I bought in some random market a decade ago. It’s on its last legs and I’d like an upgrade. I think I’m finally grown up enough to deserve a nice everyday bag. 🤣

  • Needs to be massive
  • Ideally leather
  • Suitable for daily use
  • Reasonably smart but still relaxed (I am aware this possibly doesn’t make sense, but it’s what I want 😊)
  • I’m thinking about £2k?

Any suggestions, please?

Why not get something made for you exactly to your requirements a proper one off piece? @ThatTealViewer

AprilLady · 11/12/2024 16:51

@ThatTealViewer I adore my Loewe Flamenco which I think ticks your boxes. It has beautiful leather, relaxed but smart. The medium is pretty big, the large even bigger:

That honestly never occurred to me! It’s a great idea, but suspect it might be spenny. Will look into it, though. Thank you.

It's really not "spenny" your get exactly what you want. I would have a one off piece over any brand with that budget . Same with jewelry if I decide what I want I go to the jeweler and have it made , my idea his knowledge. I love bags and jewelry and collect both :)

I like the look of this one.

£2k on a bag.
Wow! I don't know anyone in real life who would spend this, even rich DSIL!
Well done girl, I hope you find something perfect but since my everyday bag is from TKMax, I doubt I'll be of much help to you.

whatnow5 · 12/12/2024 09:46

A mulberry is pretty classic. Or I like Aspinal.

How would you go about sourcing someone to make the bag? Do you have any recommendations?

This is actually very similar to the bag I have now!

Mulberry, Loewe or Bottega Venetta any day!

Mercurial123 · 12/12/2024 10:34

Someone mentioned the J W Anderson tote awhile back. Unfortunately, I don't need/want another bag

I have no advice but I think that first Loewe one is lovely and I’m not even a “bag” person 😁

And of course Jonathan Anderson is creative director of Loewe

How 'massive' is massive? If it's for everyday use, do you need a laptop, etc.? I use a Mulberry Bayswater zipped small or Polene numero un as my current go-to work bag. I don't need to put my laptop (13-inch) and iPad Pro (12.9-inch) in there, though, as I use a wheelie case or a 'weekend size' bag for work stuff (I travel a lot daily!).

I also have a big leather Kate Spade bag with a zip that is really lovely. It fits my laptop and iPad Pro, which I use if I just need to travel locally.

These aren't the £2k budget though, far less but you could get two...

livingafulllife · 12/12/2024 11:38

Back pack cant go wrong.

genesis92 · 12/12/2024 11:50

Surely once a bag gets over the £400/£500 mark, you aren't actually gaining anything extra in quality or style? You're just spending the extra money for the sake of it.

Unless of course it's all about the designer brand

For many brands I would agree although I do think that there are many £800-£1,000 bags worth buying. But for brands like Gucci, YSL, Dior & especially Prada they are really not worth the premium.

But Bottega Veneta & Loewe are different. The craftmanship in their handmade bags and the quality of leather used are worth every penny if you can afford it. Mulberry are not of that calibre, but for their price point they too are worth the money.

Hermes would be worth it if they were similarly priced to Loewe & Bottega. Their bags are exceptional, but not in my opinion worth the price.

Current monster can fit a laptop, a tablet, books and assorted make up and mum bits with ease. I like a big bag. 😁

Those are excellent suggestions, thank you.
