I popped into Penhaligon's yesterday at an outlet and tried the Elisabethan Rose. Oh wow - I love it and can't stop sniffing the jumper I had on!

Didn't check the price at the time but does anyone know how much they charge at an Outlet? I see it's £85 per 30ml on the Penhaligon's website.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 14/01/2025 11:49

Bal d'Afrique today. I get a bit of a citrus at the beginning with some woodiness behind it. Half an hour later though and I can't really smell anything other than the slightest hint of jasmine which is nice but not really there unless I shove my nose up my sleeve to trap the tiny bit scent that is left.

Tom ford rose rose prick for me today one of my faves or at least it was tol I read an article yesterday which said rose scent makes u smell old erm I'm only in my 40s. Anyone else enjoy rose scents or do u after they make u smell old?

I get that it can be quite an old fashioned traditional scent but I hope I don't smell old! I love Molton Brown Rosa Absolute/ quite a fruity spicy rose though.

I think it depends on the rose. It's it's plain old-fashioned rose water then it can be a bit old fashioned. It makes a huge difference if there are other bits added in to make it a more rounded scent.

That said, someone once gave me a rose perfume from a small local producer that didn't claim to have anything else and it was amazing. Not at all old-fashioned. Of course I didn't keep the bottle or make not of the name.

I much prefer Elizabethan Rose then the Coveted Duchess Rose. It's so fresh and pretty - like you are walking in gorgeous rose garden. Not sure how much it costs, i only have 5ml form the advent.

I sprayed little on my wrist just now after reading your post - it's gorgeous

Thanks to the Ladies who may have spoken about testers from SpaceNK , yesterday I received a DS &G is it? cannot remember the name but there were about 6 testers including the one I m wearing today Cowboy Grass. Also got some Juliette has a gun samples and one from Floral Street. I have had this one before. Looking forward to trying the others!

Lurkingshark · 14/01/2025 16:09

I'm not a rose fan - I've tried to like it but for some reason i just don't! Funny how our noses all work differently

TheLongRider · 14/01/2025 16:33

@IDontHateRainbows I have a couple of testers from Perfumer H, Ink and Smoke. I like her style of perfume, I have a good few Miller Harris perfumes. I find the drydown always has a similar note. I think she does rhubarb and green scents very well and some of her spice notes are really well blended.

Iandhd23 · 14/01/2025 17:40

@Mackemlass79 I also think it depends how it’s done. I think some rose scents smell dated but there are others I think are nice. I personally don’t like anything where rose is the dominant note (like Delina), but I love fragrances where the rose takes more of a backseat (like Jardins de misfah)

Iandhd23 · 14/01/2025 17:41

SOTD is Duchessa by Gritti. I’m going to have to save up for a full bottle when my sample is finished as this is definitely a love for me

Mackemlass79 · 14/01/2025 17:58

Thanks everyone you all make very good point as fne tf rose prick I'm wearing today is so different to the rose scent from fragonard MIL got me a few yrs ago I think that one tho still nice smells a little more dated

I’m interested to hear what you think of Cowboy Grass! That’s one I’d like to try

paristotokyo · 14/01/2025 19:45

No scent for me today but I did purchase the 10ml of the kayali vanilla 28 as an upgrade to the sample and the little bottle is so cute! Rest of my 10mls are the usual boring cylindrical bottles so this made me smile :)

Deathraystare · 14/01/2025 19:46

@O@Orangeslemon

I really like it! It reminds me of something else but what I do not know!

IDontHateRainbows · 14/01/2025 20:08

SOT evening is l'atelier parfum tobacco volute. I really get on with this one. Nutty, powdery sweet but not sickly. Perfect for the type of year too.

fivebyfivebuffy · 14/01/2025 20:46

Lait de coco for after my shower
I'm burning through this!

@IDontHateRainbows that’s one of my favourites too agree it’s perfect for this time of year

Magpiecomplex · 15/01/2025 07:15

Don't like the next 4160T sample (While you are asleep?) in the bottle or on a piece of tissue so I'm giving it a miss in favour of The Sexiest Scent etc. Asleep is too jasmine heavy for me. If we're running true to type, I predict @SabrinaPrune will probably like today's!

IDontHateRainbows · 15/01/2025 07:46

BDK Rouge Smoking this morning - this is fast becoming my favourite BDK taking over even Gris Charnel which I thought had the top spot.

Deciding what scent to wear in the morning feels a bit like an old, rich man with a garage full of cars saying 'I think we'll take the rolls for a spin this morning Jeeves' - only with perfume.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 15/01/2025 10:27

Neroli Nasimba today. The leather is much more subtle than in Irish Leather and while it's still there an hour or two later, it's more balanced. There was a hint of citrus initially but that seems to have disappeared and it's now a floral, leathery scent.

It's quite nice but not a repurchase.

This is why I love perfume so much, it adds a bit of excitement to each day!
Is Rouge Smoking quite heavy on the cherry?
