I couldn't see a new thread so I'm starting one!

Out for the evening at a concert and rouge smoking is the scent.of choice. Quite fitting for the occasion, feels elegant and sophisticated. This is faat becoming my favorite bdk, or certainly joint first with gris charnel. Such a good house.

Oooh I really like it, smells like a creamy toasted marshmallow to me. Funny how one thing can smell so different to others.

After a few hours the plastic smells disappears and what’s left is really lovely, but the initial smell is just too pungent and lasts way too long for me unfortunately.

Iandhd23 · 10/01/2025 18:54

I’m currently working my way through all of my unused samples (I have way too many). This evening I’m testing Bvlgari’s Baciami. Not too sure how I feel about this one. There’s a strong smell of caramel which I love, but this perfume has made me realise I don’t think I like the note of gardenia! Either that or the gardenia is just too strong in this perfume for me; I’ll give it some more time and see how I get on with it.

SabrinaPrune · 10/01/2025 18:32

Strangely it’s growing on me. Smells a bit like Etat Libre dorange one I can’t remember (putain de palace?) without the jasmine.

Edited

Is that the honey one? I can't remember the name either. I like it but it was far too bright and sweet to wear in an exam hall today.

roycroppersshopper · 10/01/2025 22:42

I got some new samples, so SOTD was Hermes Barenia. I really liked it, wasn't sure on spray but once it settled I like it. Really good longevity. Not my usual mega floral/sweet smell.

From my previous samples I love Café Rose but the longevity isn't the best on me.

MiaN · 11/01/2025 06:06

Skin Clean Reserve. After period of but being sure what I want I am back in being in mood for salty sweet goodness.

roycroppersshopper · 11/01/2025 08:41

Another day, another sample. SOTD is Ambassadora by Gisada. It's super sweet and then powdery and I love it. VERY summery. It's not mega expensive at all so I think I'll buy 50ml for summer.

Gisada are a Swiss company, I'd not heard of them before.

CP1978 · 11/01/2025 08:50

Scent of the day is Born to Stand Out Drunk Saffron. This is a gorgeous, really unusual fragrance, a lovely boozy, sweet vanilla fragrance with plums and saffron. It's so unique and evokes memories of something but can't put my finger on what!

IDontHateRainbows · 11/01/2025 09:02

Sotd is bdk creme de cuir. Another stunner from this house. It's fruity and slightly spicy whilst still feeling quite light.
I've only not liked one of theirs from the sample set. Loved 5 and just ok with one.

SabrinaPrune · 11/01/2025 11:32

I like the sound of drunk saffron @CP1978

mine today is 4160s Chocolate Ginger. Approached with caution as I’m not really a gourmand person, I love both those things but don’t want to smell like them. And the opening is indeed a big blast of chocolate and ginger. But dries down quickly to a resinous incense, like Nag Champa in the blue packs (if you know you know). I think this is number 7 in the January joy box and the third I have really liked after Metaphysic and Scented Veil

SabrinaPrune · 11/01/2025 11:32

And yes @Magpiecomplex yesterdays was So Long See You Honey. Silly name.

CorneliaStreet · 11/01/2025 11:55

Trying Miller Harris Le Jasmin today. A bit misnamed, as it is more citrus than jasmine and it also has a herby, green note (rosemary, I think). There is a floral quality in the background but from the name I was expecting a big, heavy hitting jasmine fragrance, and it’s definitely not that.

I do like it, but it’s probably better suited to summer weather.

Lurkingshark · 11/01/2025 12:10

SOTD black saffron by byredo. This and Mojave Ghost, are my two choices from the large (le grande decourtve) sample pack (comes with a voucher). DH like MG, as I think a number of others here do, but it disappears. So deciding on getting my preference (saffron) vs the one we’d both use, but doesn’t last.

In case anyone is looking at Byredo, I’ve noticed byredo like dill and violet notes, not my favourites but the dry downs are consistently lovely, if similar.

I have a lot of samples incase anyone in interested in a swap? Probably need some communal listing process which may be too much faff!

This thread was recommended to me on one of the advent calendar threads as I got the HN fragrance calendar so I've finally got around to joining you all.

I opened the calendar starting on Christmas day and there was only one I didn't like so that's good. I've decided I need to be a bit more organised in working through them so I'm going through them one at a time and making rating them. I'm pretty new to perfumes - I was always just, yeah, that's nice and wear it until I ran out and then not get another for ages. So I want to stay wearing perfume everyday and become a bit more knowledgeable about it.

Anyway, after that long essay, today's scent is Naxos by Xerjoff. I really like. I'm getting a citrus kick at the beginning and then a bit later, it's got more vanilla, with it settling down to a more subtle floral/citrus combination.

I'm assuming the floral is the jasmine and lavender but I wouldn't say either is jumping out individually.

Any other recommendations off the HN calendar? I got one off ebay yesterday for not much more than they were originally. Think a lot of business sellers bulk bought and didn't offload them before Xmas so now is an ideal time for anyone who missed out before Xmas to buy.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 11/01/2025 13:53

@IDontHateRainbows I think my favourite is BDK. Delina is also fab.

Since I started rating them this week, I've tried the Delina, the carmina, which I also liked but preferred the Delina. I thought the two were in a similar vein. I also portrait of a lady, which is quite different to the other 3 but is also lovely.

I'm not going to be much help in narrowing down as the only perfume in the calendar I don't think I'll use is the Irish Leather, although I'll give it another shot.

Thanks. I already love Gris Charnel, will see what the others are like. I am interested in the Xerjoff Naxos but would want to sell it if I don't like it, so have ordered a 1ml sample to try first. Sounds an interesting combination, I've heard it is quite strong. Then I think I'll be looking at reviews of the other ones to see whether they are worth keeping or trying to shift. I know Bal D'Afrique is very popular but somehow it just doesn't work for me, I find it too astringent and citrussy. Shame as I get on with most of Byredo and in many ways that was the brand that got me really obsessed with niche perfumes.

happytobemrsg · 11/01/2025 17:33

Not worn perfume today as I’ve had a very bad headache. Looks like there are lots of new samples on the thread so I’m enjoying reading what everyone thinks of them

Lurkingshark · 11/01/2025 17:47

i had the HN and throughI’ve not opened a few and didn’t like the Naxos, but sold it as I think many do love it.

I liked the hermatica one in there, plus the ones mentioned above.

I’ve not tried the Sisley, crivelli or molecules one. Colonia is meh to me. That might be regifted.

TheGander · 11/01/2025 18:22

Hello everyone. What are the views on here re Escentric Molecules? I tried the mandarin one and really liked it. Need to go back into town to try on again and make sure though. I seldom find a perfume I like. My all time fav dis Vol de Nuit but they have messed with the composition and the EDT is a pale shadow of its former self

paristotokyo · 11/01/2025 18:39

I really liked the first em01 I had, it smelt wonderful on me. Sweet and a little woody.. hard to describe but it also lasted ages. I've been unwell recently and opened a new bottle once I recovered and couldn't smell anything at all! So strange. I might have a spritz of it in the shops to double check incase I've being anosmic to it. I also had the em01+black tea which smelt like straight up pj tips to me, which got passed on.

The only one I've ever got on with was the black tea one.

IDontHateRainbows · 11/01/2025 19:26

SOT evening is matiere premiere vanilla powder. If it's possible to both like and dislike a scent at the same time this is it. It's lovely at first but there's something that reminds me of baking classes at school, a possibly too literal interpretation of vanilla, like pure vanilla essence.

Can't decide overall if I like it. Probably one I'll spritz occasionally and ask myself the same question.

Millymollymine · 11/01/2025 19:46

@IDontHateRainbows I really like Ex-Nihilo The Hedonist from the Hn Advent Calendar - if you read the Fragrantica review they say its more of a male scent but I love it. I also love Naxos, Delina, Gris Charnel. I think it was a great calendar and will be setting my alarm to get this years.

Millymollymine · 11/01/2025 19:50

@TheGander I have liked every fragrance I have tried from them - in the last few months they have been in various scent kits snd advents so have tried a few including 01 ginger, black tea and 02.
