Is Superdry the kiss of death to teen street cred

DS needs a new coat.
He is 16, but is a complete country mouse, and has no real concern for fashion.

He does like orange, and so do I, as he's more visible in the dark walking back from school.
He also likes parkas, as he's tall and anything waist length is more rib length on him (he's 6'3" with a long torso).

I've found this - ticks lots of boxes, but isn't Superdry a bit middle aged? DS is so nerdy that I don't want him to alienate himself even more from the cool kids.

I've only ever seen men in their 30s wearing hoodrich and not at all in my area

Superdry isn’t cool at any level. Hasn’t been for a long time. I remember writing about the downturn of Superdry many years ago at university. Don’t buy from Superdry.

Thingymajigi · 05/12/2024 22:53

Superdry is for plain clothed police men.

I would try Uniqlo, Arket or Everlane.

Ha! You’re so right

Patagonia and Napapijri equally as cool but not quite as spenny as North Face. It is NOT only road men who wear NF 😂

As I said it's area specific

Not in my town, it's berghaus worn with slightly too straight, too blue jeans and their police issue/uniform boots

I bought my DD a Superdry coat afyer I saw loads of commuters wearing them. The following year I bought the long version for me (Fiji , I think)

(I did ask DD if she wanted the coat and if she was ok with me copying her )

No down , it's recycled bottle filling. Small logo .

My adult DS is the most non label person ever, doesn't like puffer coats . He wears a smart Trespass

Thehorseintheswamp · 05/12/2024 22:59

Superdry was in about 10 years ago maybe more. I honestly don’t know one teen who would be seen dead in it now. However I have huge admiration for kids who wear what they want and what they personally like themselves instead of following the crowd like so many others do including mine.

hellywelly3 · 05/12/2024 23:02

It’s more about style than brand for my teens. So every area is different.

Notmollybutdolly · 05/12/2024 23:03

SUPERDRY is for undercover police officers

BobbyBiscuits · 05/12/2024 23:04

It's definitely not a trendy brand for teens. Far from it. And a person of six foot plus shouldn't wear an orange coat. It's just too garish and high Vis looking. Maybe a camel colour, caramel, light brown would be nicer? I guess orange to me is never very chic.

Clearly you are not a sixteen year old boy who is happy in his choice.
Where have you ever seen a sixteen year old boy wear a camel coat?!

I guess with attitudes like this and others on the thread from adults, we see where the cool kids who bully others get their horrible attitudes from.

😂😂😂

Glad you amuse yourself.

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 05/12/2024 23:20

Certain brands being social death is not really a thing in the city where I live. At DC1's sixth form college they're a pretty eclectic bunch and that jacket would be pretty unremarkable. DC1 has just asked for a couple of Superdry bits for Christmas - they have some nice vintage style stuff that goes well with actual vintage stuff.

Illinoise · 05/12/2024 23:21

I'd say Patagonia, Berghaus, Colombia, and if he wants a slightly more special forces edge... Arc'teryx.

But superdry is not cool around here anymore, as others have said it's the 50 year old blokes still wearing it now, and that's about it.

adiffer · 05/12/2024 23:22

My DS likes Trailberg and Montirex, North Face, Berghaus, Columbia
TK Maxx had lovely warm winter coats by some of the outdoor brands. My husband laughs because he's a hill walker and a lot of those outdoors brands are becoming cool xx

allthatfalafel · 05/12/2024 22:13

So weird, I'm of the generation where the only people wearing North Face were beardy middle aged middle class hikers.

Same. I find it hilarious it’s now apparently worn by drug dealers 🤣

WorldMap24 · 05/12/2024 23:32

As others have said, depends on the area. Dd 14yo is more than happy to wear hers after choosing it herself. Ds almost 16yo has superdry clothing and wears it regularly so 🤷

ConsuelaHammock · 05/12/2024 23:34

Superdry is very popular with the farming kids in my area. And Ralph Lauren polos. Perhaps it’s a rural thing? North face is popular too but it’s for the townies apparently. I would ask him which brand he would prefer.

Christ0nABike · 05/12/2024 23:36

EndlessTreadmill · 05/12/2024 21:17

Don't know what Road Men are, but North Face is definitely the brand to have in South West London!

I do know what roadmen are but where I live NorthFace is the epitome of chav*

*sorry I know MN hates that word but I can’t think of a better one. Quite a nice brand but it’s fine the same way as Burberry a la East17, shame!

LigamentBandy · 05/12/2024 23:36

@ConsuelaHammock op has asked him and he's chosen ( got interrupted ) what he wanted.

BobbyBiscuits · 05/12/2024 23:38

@DogSmiles I'm a bully because I don't think the colour orange is chic? 🤣🤣

Same here. None of these brands are stylish. None of them look good. In the right situation they might be extremely practical.

LigamentBandy · 05/12/2024 23:40

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle it's for a 16 boy not a catwalk!

BobbyBiscuits · 05/12/2024 23:40

@LigamentBandy I think I have seen young men wearing coats of that colour. Sorry if I don't like the colour orange. And if I was a sixteen year old boy I wouldn't like that colour either. I wasn't being nasty.
