* Please avoid dropping hints or spoilers about future contents if you have opened the calendar in advance. * (Edited at request of the OP by MNHQ)

It is one sleep away! We’ve all been very patient, since Liberty London revealed their advent calendar in June this year.

Reveals from 7am GMT each morning please. This is to harmonise discussion/shift work/different time zones.

Ok have checked. I do have the right product. Sunday Reily Good Genes Glycolic Treatment. This is fab!
Although I now have enough serums in my stash to last me for at least a year or two.

Waffles21 · 08/12/2024 08:07

Ooh I love good genes, such a brilliant product, I’m using one at the moment, it makes such a difference to my skin. Looking forward to whichever drawer mine is in 🤣

nearly61 · 08/12/2024 08:18

This is, believe it or not, a new type of product for me. I've not used the acid exfoliators as I have a small dry patch near my mouth that can flare up if I overdo creams etc with actives in so I just thought that this type of thing might do the same to it. Does anyone with tricky skin find Good Genes Glycolic Acid is ok for them? If so I might give it a go, seeing as how I now have some! And it is a very good brand...

allmybooksarefromthelibrary · 08/12/2024 08:32

I’m very pleased with this - I love this product!

@nearly61 I have a similar patch near my mouth that flares up (I’ve had periroral and perioccal dermatitis previously) and I’m ok with GG as long as everything else in my routine is non-reactive and trusted. I’d also start it gradually and build up.

BrotherUrgh · 08/12/2024 08:35

Delighted with this morning! I feel Good Genes is one of those products that genuinely makes a difference.

propertealady · 08/12/2024 08:41

Does anyone know if you can use today's product with the Luna night oil or CEO glow? I've also got Ice, I really love Sunday Riley stuff 🤣

I hope it's okay with the ceo glow because that's what I'm using at the moment. Is anyone able to confirm please?

Lemonademoney · 08/12/2024 08:50

Yessss! Now this is the sort of thing I was hoping to find. Looking forward ti trying this one.

nearly61 · 08/12/2024 08:55

@allmybooksarefromthelibrary or anyone that can help -does this get used as a serum, ie get left on the skin, OR do I wipe it over and off with a cotton pad like other exfoliators? Sorry for the questions -it wasn't completely clear on the good genes site, but seems to imply it remains on the skin all day?

kenyaswhiterefrigerator · 08/12/2024 09:29

@nearly61apply after cleansing and leave on the skin

Yes you just apply it after your cleanser and before moisturisers. I used after P50 this morning which is quite a potent exfoliating toner (apparently) and wasn’t sure if applying another AHA on top would be wise but I couldn’t resist and had zero reaction. If you’re using retinoids I wouldn’t use this in the same routine though. So if you use a retinol in the evening, use this in the morning. Or on an off night if you do with that retinol. Hope that helps!

I’m super pleased with today’s product. Can’t get enough of serums! The rose one is still my favourite product from the AC so far though - anyone want to swap theirs, I’m your girl, especially if we ever get any make up - would happily swap all make up for another rose serum :)

Peridot1 · 08/12/2024 09:52

Happy with today’s product although I have enough exfoliators to do me for quite some time.

For those with sensitive skin or anyone not used to acids I would just use this three times a week or so. Definitely not with any other acid or with a retinol. It can seem ok initially and then bam you’ve wrecked your skin barrier.

Waffles21 · 08/12/2024 09:57

@spoeke i loved the rose serum too, so much so that I bought another from Vinted for when it’s finished for £25!! Worth a look! ( Hope this is ok to post!)

secretbumworms · 08/12/2024 10:01

@Peridot1 thanks for the tip. I wasn't sure if it was ok to use every day or not. Is the aim to work up to every day use, or would you stay at every other day?

Biscuitburglar · 08/12/2024 10:01

Very happy with today’s Good Genes! It’s one of the things that I had for my birthday after getting it in advent calendar last year and loving. So I’m really pleased to have one in reserve for when my birthday treat runs out. Going to brave yesterday’s perfume for the first time now! Really enjoying this thread, thank you.

nearly61 · 08/12/2024 10:36

Many thanks for the advice and help regarding Good Genes :) This is one of the reasons I love these threads -the knowledge and experience from people with a wide range of skin types is so much better than reading reviews (I don't think most of those are truly impartial anymore). Obviously I love the chat and excitement generally on the thread too!! So, many thanks to you lovely people x

Peridot1 · 08/12/2024 10:40

@secretbumworms (great name!) - I personally would stick to every other day but my skin is quite sensitive to glycolic acid. I tend to try to have a routine of a retinol one night, just hydration the next night and an exfoliant the next day followed by another hydration only day. But my skin is a bit sensitive and this works for me.

TriciaMcMillan · 08/12/2024 11:00

Good drawer for me. I have been using it since it came in the 2022 (?) AC. It's part of my daily nighttime routine and has made the most significant difference to my skin of any product. Will go to shore up my stash. God help me if I ever run out, feel like I'll age a thousand years overnight!

BakeOffRewatch · 08/12/2024 11:21

Day 8!

Sunday Riley Good Genes 30ml FULL SIZE
Value £70

Yay! Love this. One of the reasons I got the AC is that the Liberty has proper full sizes. They haven’t fobbed us off with a 15ml.

I wouldn’t use it on your dry patches @nearly61 , the area between cheeks and mouth is really sensitive. I’d stick to tougher parts of face like nose, forehead, cheeks near ears and jawline. I wouldn’t use it with Luna Oil either, which is a retinol. The routines on the Sunday Riley “Go To Bed With Me” and “ are pretty explicit. They do say you can use Good Genes and Luna Oil at same time.

https://sundayriley.uk/products/wake-up-with-me-v3
Scroll down to the bottom of the pages for the routines, it gives amount to use too. I think if you did those routines like that off the bat it would be quite irritating and abrasive though.

We had a bit of a chat here earlier in the week about addressing stubborn dry patches of skin https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5219561-beauty-advent-calendars-2024-7?reply=140257836 I recommended barrier creams like
Avène Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream
or
La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm B5 Multi-Purpose Repairing Balm

I wouldn’t ever put retinol or acid or exfoliating on dry patch. It needs to heal first.

Very pleased with today's offering, I'll be looking 21 very soon at this rate 😂

Waffles21 · 08/12/2024 12:11

I’ve just realised why I got a different product- opened number 18 instead of number 8🤦🏻‍♀️, gg to look forward to then!! Interesting to read you should put moisturiser over the top, I haven’t been! Thanks @BakeOffRewatch !

ACAC2023 · 08/12/2024 12:18

Love the Good Genes 🙂

Only if you’ve got time for the serum to sink in first though, if you put the moisturiser on straight after kind of makes the pricey serum pointless. I often whack the serum on and go to bed without moisturiser. Then I’ll use a night cream, night mask, overnight treatment, whatever they call it on other days.
