Holland & Barrett advent calendar opening thread

OchonAgusOchonOh · 30/11/2024 10:50

This is the thread for daily opening of the H&B advent calendar. As with all the threads, the only firm rule is not discussing a drawer's contents before the day. The usual timeline is no spoilers before 7am but we can agree a different time if people want to.

Let the games begin!!!!

I have oily skin so today's might suit me. I was surprised by the name though!

Roundaboot · 07/12/2024 08:03

This was in a H&B calendar a few years ago. It's really nice and does not make your face smell like a bag of chips!

iridescentsnowflake · 07/12/2024 08:25

I’ve never heard of it either, I’ll have to look up what it does. I’ve cleansed and used it and haven’t moisturised straight away so I can see how it feels. It’s made my dry/ dehydrated skin feel tight. It does smell a bit vinegary to me!

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 07/12/2024 08:49

I got this a few years ago in my first H&B calendar and quite liked it, thought not enough to buy again when it ran out. I have oily skin, though.

narniabusiness · 07/12/2024 08:57

I got it in the advent calendar from a few years ago too. I found it unopened at the back of the drawer where I’d abandoned it since I was perplexed and somewhat put off by the vinegar name.
I had just opened it two days ago 🤣 and now I have another.

ChannelLightVessel · 07/12/2024 09:15

I don’t know why they don’t just call it toner.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 07/12/2024 09:32

I've obviously opened the wrong day because I didn't get a toner. I will go and investigate.

I went back and checked and I definitely don't have a toner.

Interesting! I can remember one day where there were slightly different products (same brand), but I don’t think today was one of them.

I think they can charge more by not calling it toner, looking at the price of the stuff! I googled ‘vinegar toner’ when I didn’t have it to hand and I wanted to look it up, and it was the first thing that came up!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 07/12/2024 09:56

What is the name of the toner? If it's the Galinee one it's absolutely lovely. I've had it before. Hopefully mine is just in the wrong day, although the one I got today sounds lovely too. I won't say what it is in case it's just the days mixed up.

Yes it is.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 07/12/2024 10:06

@iridescentsnowflake Thanks. Hopefully I will get it in a different day then.

I don't have H&B this year, but have had in previous years, and enjoying reading the updates (and thinking I should've gone for it again!). I agree with @OchonAgusOchonOh that the Galinee Face Vinegar is lovely. I found the name quite off putting when in popped up in a previous year and nearly gave it away. Finally tried it last summer and it was very gentle but also had a nice brightening effect.

iridescentsnowflake · 07/12/2024 12:44

I’m wondering why it says ‘suitable for oily or sensitive skin’ instead of ‘suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin’ or equivalent. As it makes it sound like it’s just suitable for oily and sensitive skin. Mine is dry, and the toner feels drying.

I bet a couple of boxes have been mixed up.

Unfortunately a DOD for me. Added to pile with rollerball ...

Its the reason I got the H&B AC, so I could get this size for travel. I have dry skin and I splash it on my face, rather than applying with a pad, if that makes sense. I generally use it in the evening, having used a hyaluronic toner in the morning.

Thanks, I’ll try that. And also I’ll moisturise straight away (as I normally do).

bizzey · 08/12/2024 04:41

I had a quick glance at my notes for yesterday (7) before I came in here to see what the views were .

My quick glance confused me !
I read my scribble as
facial viagra instead of facial vinegar 😂😂😂😂😂...

That would be an impressive face lift 😂😂...

So #7 is in the undecided bracket .

Roll on 8 !
(Can't remember....
I don't look at my list till near or after 7am !!)

narniabusiness · 08/12/2024 08:46

I’m super pleased with today’s. It’s Evolve Multi Peptide anti-aging cream and its arrival has coincided with a significant birthday. So I’m definitely the target market for this product 😁

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 08/12/2024 08:54

I’m also the target market (my 50th was last year), but I do question why they print the label in such tiny unfriendly writing! Also I don’t have dry skin, so it may be too much for me.

iridescentsnowflake · 08/12/2024 09:01

I’m very pleased with today's - it’s for dry skin so exactly what my skin needs! I’m mid 40s and so far am doing ok with my face (no lines yet) which makes me a little reluctant to swap from the brands I’ve used long term but I enjoy trying new things every now and again.

bigTillyMint · 08/12/2024 09:13

This looks good - it rubbed in nicely anyway!

bizzey · 08/12/2024 09:16

I haven't opened the box yet ...but my notes have in very big capitals ME.. ME.. ME ...!! 😂😂😂 (As opposed to another persons name ...I am dividing the AC up in advance !)

I’d be interested to hear how many you keep by the end!
