Holland & Barrett advent calendar opening thread

OchonAgusOchonOh · 30/11/2024 10:50

This is the thread for daily opening of the H&B advent calendar. As with all the threads, the only firm rule is not discussing a drawer's contents before the day. The usual timeline is no spoilers before 7am but we can agree a different time if people want to.

Let the games begin!!!!

Sitting here.....tapping fingers.........waiting ........

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 18/12/2024 07:13

Sukin scalp scrub today. I haven’t tried this but very happy with it- I like other stuff from this brand and I have slightly difficult hair, so anything that might help is welcome!

bizzey · 18/12/2024 07:17

On day 1 , when people were saying they were going to get rid of the scalp massage brush ....
I was bitting my tongue..to say ..noo not yet ...wait, for the 18th 😂😂....

Think I am going to start organising the boxes today and using stuff !

Roundaboot · 18/12/2024 07:25

Yay! It's actually CG friendly! There was a scalp scrub in a previous calendar a few years ago that I enjoyed using so I look forward to trying this.

mumonthehill · 18/12/2024 07:42

Sent ds off to try it and he said he felt like he had sand in his hair!!! Will give it a go tomorrow but not sure now I will like it.

bizzey · 18/12/2024 07:56

Is it for use on wet hair or dry ?
And then I presume rinse off and shampoo ?

OchonAgusOchonOh · 18/12/2024 08:10

I've never tried a scalp scrub before but am excited to give it a go.

@bizzey your restraint is an example to us all 🤣

I’m now nervous to try on my thick hair or donate to DD with long hair 🤣

iridescentsnowflake · 18/12/2024 08:31

Well this is a very generously sized tube. But I’m not sure about a scrub with my long thick curly hair; I have visions of bits getting stuck in it! I haven’t actually opened it to see what the scrubby bits look like though. This is another one that sounds good but in reality I’m normally in a rush when washing my hair and it takes long enough to deal with as it is!

sharpclawedkitten · 18/12/2024 08:46

I have just been reading the instructions, it says you have to section hair and do it section by section. I think life is too short for all that. I thought when I saw it that I could just use it like a conditioner. Well maybe I still can but you use it before shampoo rather than afterwards. Oh well I'll give it a try when I next wash my hair.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 18/12/2024 08:48

@sharpclawedkitten God no. Life is too short for that. I'll dollop a bit in a few different spots and try a bit of a scrub with it and see how I get on.

I’ve recently used a sample size of a similar sounding product from Christophe Robin https://www.christopherobin.co.uk/cleansing-purifying-scrub-with-sea-salt-250ml/12635437.html
I loved that one (and I wasn’t expecting to)and so I’m excited to try this one.

mumonthehill · 18/12/2024 08:50

Interestingly ds loves the toothpaste, so that was a win!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 18/12/2024 09:00

@narniabusiness Did you section out your hair or how did you use it? I'm looking for some quick cheats.

OP posts:
bizzey · 18/12/2024 09:02

No way am I going to be sectioning my hair !

It will be a hit and miss lucky dip what parts of my scalp get scrubbed 😂!

I do have some flakiness to one side ...so will concentrate on that ..to stop me picking at it !!

CountryCob · 18/12/2024 09:05

Whenever I have tried these - not often, its washing it out of long hair afterwards that is the issue. In for hair dye on Friday and that usually feels like it takes a lot off my scalp which is generally enough for me as have quite sensitive skin. For me this and the toothpaste are the products I don't know what to do with. On a funny note the usually booked for months hairdressers called yesterday calling everyone to check they are coming to their appointments as well as the usual text. Who would willingly give that appointment away now??? Bar serious injury or family bereavement yes I do still want the appointment thank you.....

narniabusiness · 18/12/2024 09:06

No Sections here. You just need to get it to your scalp. So one blob smooshed on the central parting, another for the sides and a blob for the nape of the neck should do it. The Christophe Robin lathered up amazingly well in our hard water (all that salt perhaps?) so I’m hoping that this will be the same.

percypigss · 18/12/2024 09:20

I've tried a scalp scrub before and didn't like it. I will use this as a body scrub.

bizzey · 18/12/2024 09:57

Quick question for you all if you don't mind 🙏

According to my notes (😂😂)....
I have written down that the PawPaw balm from the 13th is ok for lips and eyes .

I have got an annoying..sort of don't know what it is on my eye lid and it is a bit itchy ...

So can I use this on my eye lid ..
Ta very much !

percypigss · 18/12/2024 09:20

This is a good idea! I will try it on my scalp (without sectioning!) but if I don’t get on with it I will do the same!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 18/12/2024 09:59

@bizzey I'd give it a go but I don't have particularly sensitive skin. It's basically a skin balm so should be fine.

OP posts:
Roundaboot · 18/12/2024 10:04

@bizzey I get eczema on my eye lid and that area just below my eyebrow (is there a technical name for that bit?!) and I tend to keep it under control with balm type creams (often Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, or Vaseline) I had planned to use this for the same purpose as I have a million lip balms already. However, I've not tried it yet so I don't know if it'll work! It's fragrance free which is good but might still be a bit stingy.
Give it a go but proceed with caution!

mumonthehill · 18/12/2024 10:08

Body scrub!!! Genius!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 18/12/2024 10:09

Body scrub is definitely a brilliant idea.
