Holland & Barrett advent calendar opening thread

OchonAgusOchonOh · 30/11/2024 10:50

This is the thread for daily opening of the H&B advent calendar. As with all the threads, the only firm rule is not discussing a drawer's contents before the day. The usual timeline is no spoilers before 7am but we can agree a different time if people want to.

Let the games begin!!!!

True, like an eco coffee grid exfoliator I tried once - oil and coffee grids down the bath plug ready to block it, couldn't believe it was for sale....

Good yes. I got one of those. I used it once and binned it.

I got that exfoliator in an advent calendar one year - it was awful!

I tried the toothpaste last night. It made my teeth black initially but then all scrubbed away and didn’t leave any marks in the sink. It had a very slight cinnamon taste at one point, but I also got a bit of soapiness. My teeth still feel clean this morning. I’m not convinced - will give it a few more goes!

My initial thought in today's was it was a re gifter (wrist wash bands to keep water dripping down your arms) but actually I think I'll probably use these! I do enjoy the random practical drawers in H & B Grin

Roundaboot · 16/12/2024 07:18

I quite like the toothpaste- it left my teeth feeling super clean and didn't make a mess of the sink
I'm really happy with today's. I've been looking forward to these as I'm fed up of getting soggy dressing gown sleeves when I wash my face at night - can't wait to try them later

OchonAgusOchonOh · 16/12/2024 08:16

I never use foaming cleansers as I end up soaked so I'm happy to try these and see does it make a difference.

DoD for me - am I the only one who gets water down my front, not just my sleeves, if I wash my face at the sink? I switched to using foaming or gel cleansers in the shower years ago.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 16/12/2024 08:31

@CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan

I manage to get it everywhere too but I'm hoping this is miraculous and acts as a water repellent for both me and the bathroom floor.

When I use face washes in spring/ summer I don’t get water anywhere other than on my face, and I don’t use fake tan either, so I have no need for these. I lean right over the sink and wash with running water and that works for me - it must be the angle that I put my face and hands or something! I do appreciate they’ve added a beauty tool in though. I’d have preferred reusable cotton pads as I use those daily.

sharpclawedkitten · 16/12/2024 08:39

I tried the toothpaste today. My teeth do feel really clean but I also noticed there was a slightly soapy taste and I also thought I gagged more than usual but that might have been my imagination.

I thought there was a bit of a soapy taste too - thought it was just me!

percypigss · 16/12/2024 20:15

I'm not gonna even try todays

Roundaboot · 17/12/2024 07:44

I think it's now law that as well as an odd flavoured toothpaste, an H&B calendar has to include some of these reusable wipes! I like and use them but I have about a million in various shapes and sizes now so will just add these to the stash

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 17/12/2024 07:47

Yes, I also have a stash of these! They’ll get used, though.

bigTillyMint · 17/12/2024 07:49

Do they actually work with water only?

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 17/12/2024 07:55

No, that’s hype! But they’re very good with micellar water.

iridescentsnowflake · 17/12/2024 08:20

Ha - after what I said yesterday! I’m happy with these. I rarely wear makeup now but I’ll still use them to cleanse, alongside my reusable cotton pads.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 17/12/2024 09:28

Like everyone else, I already have loads but they are always handy. And they are so soft.

I’m pleased with these. I’m sure they’ll come in handy.

Roxie99 · 17/12/2024 13:31

I've always wanted some of these as use throwaway every day so will try!

bizzey · 17/12/2024 17:08

How do I use them please ?!

If I wear makeup..all the make up will go in them and then do I have to wash them in machine for next use ?

Assuming they are the same as the other ones I've used, you use like a disposable cotton pad and then wash. However, if I don't have makeup on and am just using to clean with micellar water, I rinse under the tap and leave to dry on the rad in the bathroom. I do the same with the cloths I use for cleansing balm. Straight in the wash if used for makeup, several uses if not.
