Am I looking at the picture wrong?

It looks very much to me like the model is wearing high heeled boots? Like, with a thin heel?

But you then say you would not wear it with high heeled boots, but but doc martens or similar?

Cargos with doc martens is a very common look (I like it). And the blazer is also fine.

The high heels in the picture I find a bit strange.

I bought some trousers like this from Zara...

I'm no fashionista but for me either change boots to chunky or high top trainers or platform trainers. Or roll down the trousers and keep the boots. 🥾

MySistersCard · 11/11/2024 22:42

Not dated at all- blazer + loose casual trouser is v current. I like the rolled up legs too.

Divebar2021 · 11/11/2024 23:47

Heeled boots would be a no for me… not current at all… flat shoes or trainers would be my preference.

Magpie50 · 12/11/2024 03:07

I feel like the sad truth is anybody moderately tall and slender can get away with almost anything and make it work!😁

LastNight1Dreamt1WentToManderleyAgain · 12/11/2024 03:17

A great basic look!
Possible tweaks:
Roll up sleeves of an oversize blazer
Have an interesting top showing underneath (cuff with a lace details or something)
Ankle boots or Doc Martens -- not long or mid-height boots under trousers
Maybe a dark colour for the inside layer, paler colours for the blazer and trousers (yes even in autumn/winter)

I like the look but if you are short then the rolled up trousers are just going to make your legs look even shorter and you’ll look wider. I think flared/wide jeans that go almost to the ground (including the heel) would work better for your height, it will elongate your legs and the flares give you more shape.

I was going to say the same thing about making your legs look shorter and I wouldn’t wear cargo trousers with heels only flat shoes or trainers.

Lostsadandconfused · 12/11/2024 03:43

The pants need pockets or they’re not cargos. And need to be a very relaxed fit.

Chunky lug soles boots have had their moment and are now quite out.

BettyBardMacDonald · 12/11/2024 04:52

I think we are past anything being dated; everything old is new again.

That outfit is cool but Amelia Earhart probably wore it 100 years ago.

dayslikethese1 · 12/11/2024 06:31

I feel like that bag would be nicer if it were brown and I agree with the flat boot comments. Not dated though.

JackieGoodman · 12/11/2024 16:20

@Lostsadandconfused think you're right.

tbh the dressier boots are probably slightly more "current" when paired with something as relaxed as cargos.

@EightAmendment please could you say where the black lace up boots are from. They are exactly what I am looking for.

Found them! Bargain too!

The boots are dated. Everything else is pretty classic.
