If you go tight in the trouser then it could look dated

Agreed, it’s the tighter trousers that are looking dated these days. I love this look - looks v current!

Cantonet · 10/11/2024 12:04

I think it's a cool current look.
I didn't notice the heeled boots. Although as a 5 ft 3 person I tend to wear chunky flats or flatform boots these days.Love the blazer & loose khakis with the pop of white.

Grepes · 10/11/2024 12:10

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 10/11/2024 09:26

It is pretty much the look right now. It's hard for those of us who were around for it the first time Cargo pants were in 😆

Apologies, I’m not in my 50s yet so don’t really follow that fashion trend! I just meant it’s not the look that I see around these days anymore. Last year was a big 90s throwback and there were lots of cargo pants, crop tops etc. Now leopard print, tartan, sheer fabrics are more on trend - but this could just be where I live and a slightly younger age group.

owlexpress · 10/11/2024 12:18

@PyreneanAubrie Heels and cargoes is a bit pop video

Lol, I was wondering what was off about the outfit but this is exactly it. Reminiscent of Tulisa or Cheryl Cole back in 2006.

I think with the flat DM style boots it would be better but agree with @TooMuchRedMaybe that you'd be better with trousers that go to the floor and elongate your leg, especially with the blazer cutting you off below the hips. I'd probably go for a bomber jacket that hits the waist with rolled up trousers.

MabelMora · 10/11/2024 12:25

bevelino · 10/11/2024 09:22

@EightAmendment please could you say where the black lace up boots are from. They are exactly what I am looking for.

Looks like these?

I love the look in the photo OP.

TooMuchRedMaybe · 10/11/2024 08:48

I like the look but if you are short then the rolled up trousers are just going to make your legs look even shorter and you’ll look wider. I think flared/wide jeans that go almost to the ground (including the heel) would work better for your height, it will elongate your legs and the flares give you more shape.

I’ve now got Mel and Kim songs going round in my head.

EightAmendment · 10/11/2024 08:34

I definitely wouldn't want them slim or skinny, but also not baggy as like I said, I am short, only 5.1". I'd also like the trousers to sit above my boots like in the picture. I am a size 10, sometimes 8. The length of the trousers is not usually a problem as that's easily altered. I usually struggle with the crotch area, particularly as so many trousers are high rise these days.

H&M cropped tapered trousers are my go to as a similarly short person - just the right length for ankle boots and slim fit but not tight

PyreneanAubrie · 10/11/2024 12:40

I'm 5'3" size 10/12 with short legs so in theory I should be going for the "leg elongating" then, but it's just not practical wearing trousers that touch the floor. If your jeans sweep the ground they get filthy and suck up water so you end up freezing. I'm also not a fan of the no feet look, I prefer clumpy lace up boots and rolled up jeans or cargoes.

I guess really it depends whether you dress for fashion or just want stylish practicality and that is often down to what your lifestyle and location dictates.

Care to share? 😁

From Morrisons. Here I am accidentally creating the look. I know they need an iron

I live in one of the wettest parts of the UK so I'm well acquainted with dressing for practicality. I didn't say not to wear the rolled up trousers, just that I don't think a blazer that hits the hip is a good idea with them if you're short. In dry weather I wear floor skimming wide legs and trainers, but honestly as we're getting into winter I'll be wearing skinny trousers tucked into DMs on my commute, dated or not.

DownThePubWithStevieNicks · 10/11/2024 13:11

Think it’s the sort of outfit that with even a few little details changed, or sitting differently on someone, could take it from quite stylish and cool, to really frumpy.

I don't do blazers or trainers or wide legs, but to be fair I never did anyway as that's not my style. I'm very long waisted/athletic shape so I look better in longer, more shaped jackets, nothing boxy. To be truthful, being rural with massive dogs I'm mostly jeans, hiking boots and Barbour these days anyway. But I do wear cargoes a lot in summer, still with DM type boots though, always.

babyproblems · 10/11/2024 10:37

Looks good but I’m not really a fan of blazers. I find them boring! I’d prefer it with a fabulous chunky cropped cardi or a textured top with some colour.

But that's the whole look. It's precisely the juxtaposition of formal and street or evening + casual that makes it a look that works if you want to look current. It's the contrast that makes the whole look relevant and fashionable.

downwindofyou · 10/11/2024 13:35

VivianLea · 10/11/2024 11:41

Replace the cargo with wool trousers and this is how I go to work, and I'm 31.

But that's a completely different look. The look shown here is a juxtaposition of formal + casual that makes it fashionable. Smart wool pants with a blazer is just a simple work outfit. Not a fashion statement.

downwindofyou · 10/11/2024 13:37

BetterInColour · 10/11/2024 11:42

This is one of the more fashionable outfits I've seen on S and B! Fantastic everyday wear. Good winter colours, high quality leather boots chunky or low heel but with a bit of substance. I love a blazer, not too structured, wool or tweed, texture good, not overly smart. If you had posted are skinnies dated, everyone would have been falling over themselves to say a) no, Kate Moss wears them and b) who cares, wear them anyway...
This place is bonkers sometimes.

It's not so surprising though. Look around you. Mumsnet is a wild mix of people. How many people in the world around you actually have a clue about what is in and out of style? Yet how many of them are convinced they do.
And when called on it they always fall back on 'well I don't follow fashion. I like to wear classic styles'. Which literally sounds insane as prior to this grandiose statement they were banging on about how fashionable some completely out dated look is.

LoobyDoop2 · 10/11/2024 15:18

I don’t think the boots are right, they need to be chunkier. Love the trousers and jacket together, though.

Nannyfannybanny · 10/11/2024 15:20

I'm also 5ft 1in, have kids older than you. Also size 10, and I look completely ridiculous in flared or wide trousers, like a little kid in my mum's dressing up box . Lots of dog walks, wet, mud, anything other than skinnys in boots, I look like a Cossack. Apparently I'm not meant to wear knee length boots either. My legs are quite long in relation to my body and the regular length m and s is perfect.

Tinymrscollings · 10/11/2024 15:27

I really like this look. I’d struggle to pull it off because almost every element is the polar opposite of what suits me, but I’d think someone else who wore it had great style. I agree about the boots, but if you prefer a lighter style of boot then I don’t think you’re obliged to go with what’s very current in order to look like stylish.

whatever1980 · 10/11/2024 15:41

Where is the outfit from please? Looks good

EightAmendment · 10/11/2024 15:50

I don't know where the outfit is from; it's just something I had saved in Pinterest. Would love to find similar trousers.

Ahh I see now ! I see I missed the point. In that case I'm not sure OP, would depend on the occasion.

BurntBroccoli · 10/11/2024 16:54

I think it looks cool precisely because of the green rolled up combats.
If you wore it with flare jeans or straight leg it would be dated I think.

MorrisZapp · 10/11/2024 17:09

Love the look but at 5 foot three I'm too short - this is why Pinterest is such a blunt tool. Obviously tall slim people look great in most outfits, it's how the rest of us manage that's the style challenge.

Floisme · 10/11/2024 17:29

I'm 5'3 too. I don't see what the problem is.

LynetteScavo · 10/11/2024 19:36

My very trendy neighbour dresses like this. So I guess it's not dated. I've no idea how old she is- she looks young but her DD is about 30!
