Mathilde and Maria Theresa attend the 80th anniversary of the battle of the Bulge.

Those colours are nice together, the heather purple and dark green.

MotherofPearl · 14/12/2024 23:01

I think Mathilde and GDMT both look good there. I agree those colours work well together on Mathilde.

Sidebeforeself · 15/12/2024 10:43

Just going back to tiara talk for a sec. I dont like it when Kate wears a Tarim with her hair down, but kind of back combed over the back of it so her hair looks really bouffant if you see what I mean?

KillingMeDeftIy · 15/12/2024 10:56

I had to stop and think about which tiara was the Tarim for a moment! I quite like that look in retro kind of way - Kate varies it between that and updos.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 15/12/2024 11:09

I don't know that one. Which is it?

Sidebeforeself · 15/12/2024 12:27

Apologies- a typo! Meant to say ‘a tiara”!

MotherofPearl · 15/12/2024 12:40

As far as I can see, she's only done this with the Lotus Flower? When she wore the Cartier Halo on her wedding day her hair was half up, half down, and the same for when she wore the Strathmore Rose. I think the Lover's Knot has always been worn with up dos?

@Sidebeforeself that's the conclusion I'd come to, heh!

Having looked at it again, I really want Catherine to wear the Oriental Ruby Circlet tiara. I don't think Camilla has worn it yet.

It would be a different style to what Catherine's worn so far - a bit taller, and I'd love some colour against her dark hair. It was worn a lot by the Queen Mother, Charles' beloved grandmother, and I think it'd be a nice gesture for him to designate it for use by the PoW. I'd like her to wear it higher on the head though, more like a crown than a headband. Just for something new and different.

I think it's a shame that the Greville diamond Bandeau is unlikely to be used again for a good long while. It's very pretty and would have been a nice one to share amongst the ladies.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 15/12/2024 13:26

Oops, meant Queen Mary's diamond Bandeau. For some reason I thought it was a Greville piece.

Sidebeforeself · 15/12/2024 13:28

@MotherofPearl I am sure Ive seen her wear it like that somewhere else too - where her hair stuck out to the back more - but I may be wrong.

justasking111 · 15/12/2024 13:40

I think there's a lot of the Greville stuff we've never seen worn. Whether it's been repurposed, or just sits neglected somewhere we'll never know.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 15/12/2024 13:48

Yes @justasking111 I think someone really ought to have a thorough rummage and find some interesting pieces for the ladies to showcase. And the family need to be more generous with when to wear them. I'm still cross there weren't any tiaras at the Coronation!!

Lunde · 15/12/2024 15:11

I wonder who has the Persian turquoise tiara? There are pictures of Princess Margaret wearing it but I don't think it's been seen for decades

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 15/12/2024 15:12

Yes I've wondered about that too. It may have been sold if it belonged to her personally. But I hope it's lurking somewhere. Again, it'd look fab against Catherine's dark hair!

I will never recover from that.
If not at a Coronation, pray when?

I know!! And there we all were, wearing our finest!

Maireas · 15/12/2024 16:22

We were! I believe we'd even put them in the dishwasher on the tiara cycle the night before.

They hopefully still have this other diamond bandeau in the vaults - last seen on Margaret in the 1960s. It’s been worn with both an emerald and sapphire brooch as the centrepiece, and they have plenty of diamond brooches to spare too.

That looks very like one that Sophie wears, although she has an aquamarine at the centre.

I saw that Princess Birgitta's funeral was held today at the Drottningholm Palace just outside of Stockholm. Seems to have been a small private affair.

Only here can I share the somewhat bizarre Christmas gift I received from a younger cousin. I have never discussed royalty with them. It is soap and a soap dish commemorating Charles and Diana's wedding. Oddly fascinating and obviously over 40 years old.

What about something to do with “more tiaras please - a bauble isn’t just for Christmas” 🤔
