Georgia Meloni looks rather unfortunately like her legs are encased in two rolls of brown paper!

I would add that have been soaked by a passing car driving through a muddy puddle.

I would further add that she took up in a hurry using sellotape and never got round the pressing

So those Swedes were back in action last night with new gowns, more bling and big tiaras at the King's Dinner for the Nobel prizewinners at the Palace. Everyone but Madeleine wore darker shades of blue. QS and CPV did wear necklaces here but both wore understated diamonds.

Queen Sylvia with a much better look for her, compared to the official banquet, wore deep blue with glittery lace sleeves and a big tiara,

CPV - wore H&M in navy blue with a very pretty tiara.

Princess Sofia wore a dark blue maternity evening gown and a beautiful aquamarine tiara usually worn by Princess Madeleine. According to Svenska Damtidning Sofia's dress belongs to CPV who wore it to Nobel events during both of her pregnancies.

Princess Madeleine wore a gown of grey and silver (not sure I like the high neck collar). She also wore the most enormous tiara.

Thanks, @Lunde , some lovely dresses and great bling. I think Queen Silvia and CPV both look better, but really nice looks all round.

Sofia's dress is similar to one Meghan wore when she was pregnant - possibly to the Royal Variety Performance? Not a fan of Madeleine's dress but after the green gown the other day, anything else would disappoint!

MotherofPearl · 12/12/2024 16:38

I think Leti has worn a similar H&M evening gown to CPV's - though Leti's was sleeveless I think.

Not keen on Madeleine's high neck. Is that the steel-cut tiara she's wearing?

MotherofPearl · 12/12/2024 16:42

Here's an article on the Swedish tiaras from the first night Nobel dinner. Some great close ups of the tiaras, and a splendid view of the back of Madeleine's green dress:

CPV has worn the blue H&M before back in 2022 and she also has a similar H&M gown in green that she wore to a Royal Gala in Amsterdam in 2022.

In fact all of the main royal gowns are rewears QS - wore the blue gown 2022, CPV also worn 2022. PSofia - worn by CPV in 2011 and 2015.

The only one I cannot remember is P Madeleine's grey/silver gown - but she has been out of the royal fold for many years so could have bought it for one of the US Charity Galas that she used to do. Didn't like the high neck though.

The fact there were so many re-wears, loans and muted colours makes me think that there may have been a bit of a scramble last week after Princess Birgitta died.

Thanks for the article.

I love the Connaught Tiara worn by Princess Madeleine at the banquet.

I also wonder just how many sets of tiara toppers Princess Sofia has for the Palmette tiara? We have seen it in its plain diamond form, with pearls, emeralds, turquoise, opals, sapphires, and I think aquamarines

The sapphires and aquamarines - so 7 looks from 1 tiara

That's a good level of versatility!

Yes, Madeleine's tiara with the grey/silver dress is the Swedish Napoleonic Cut-Steel tiara.

FabulousPharmacyst · 12/12/2024 17:51

In the ‘non royals wearing tiaras’ section we have The royals weren't the only women in Professor Natasha Staller, partner of Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2024 laureate and US molecular biologist Gary Ruvkun, wore a tiara as well. Here, she looks very happy arrives at the banquet with Prince Carl Philip.

MotherofPearl · 12/12/2024 17:57

Who can blame her @FabulousPharmacyst!

Looking at that photo more closely, I'm puzzled by the woman in a full-length evening gown but also wearing a naval cap?

Maireas · 12/12/2024 18:00

Wowsers! That red dress!
Full evening wear and a naval cap?!

If you are talking about the woman in the background - it's not a naval cap but a "student cap" or "A level cap" (studentmössa) that you wear for passing your A-levels (Gymnasiet) in Sweden and you wear on academic occasions and Walpurgis night. The caps have different badges/stones on the front depending on which line/specialism you took at A level (eg science, humanities, social sciences, electrician, commercial driving farming etc).

University students act as functionaries and flag bearers at the Nobel banquet (a friend of mine once went). So they wear their caps as it is an academic event. Also there is an open student ballot for the Nobel banquet where a number of places are reserved and any registered student can apply to go.

Thank you, @Lunde ! Informative as ever. That's really interesting and actually a good idea.

At the oldest universities, Uppsala and Lund (like Oxford and Cambridge) - the University Rektor (like the vice Chancellor) gives a speech during the day on Walpurgis nights and students, staff and townspeople alike wear their caps to to hear it. (DH still has his from 1974 somewhere).

Amazing photos of the student crowds. It makes sense that the cap is academic rather than military in origin.

@Lunde Wow the turquoise toppers , with the earrings, is amazing. I wish Our Kate would do something like that

Meanwhile Max wore a red jumpsuit for a reception held in her honour, and also ewird red for a visit to a museum, while Camilla opted for blue as she hosted a Christmas party for children with life limiting conditions.

This tweedy suit is much better. I like the winter white outfit too - apart from the scarf that looks like a neck brace!

Lunde · 12/12/2024 21:19

I like the winter white look. In theory I like the grey suit but unsure of the cinched wide 80s belt.

That suit of Leti's isn't quite right either. I think it's because it's slightly too long.
