Yes I agree @KillingMeDeftIy she looked fantastic - happier and more relaxed too, I think. Everything is just right IMO hair, tiara, make up, dress style and colour.

Lunde · 07/12/2024 10:34

It's the Nobel Prizes this week I think. I wonder if it will be the usual tiaras and bling or whether it will be more toned down following the death of Princess Birgitta this week.

Choux · 07/12/2024 12:38

Comparing the two Danish looks Marie looks v relaxed with hair down and long earrings and a looser skirted dress in sparkly green. Mary looks more 'severe' with her tight up do, high neckline and pencil skirted dress I less sparkly black. Maybe it's an attempt to look regal on Mary's part but Marie has the best look for me.

justasking111 · 07/12/2024 15:24

Mary's new tiara is underwhelming
. A posh hairband.

It does have some stonking great diamonds though.

😍

I would wear just one as a necklace if I had the chance!

MrsLeonFarrell · 07/12/2024 18:21

Can I claim Queen Mary's new tiara @Maireas ?

Of course you can! It's quite a while since I've added to the Spreadsheet of Splendour! 😊

Lovely! I shall wear it for Christmas Day and then may make a few diamonds detachable for day wear as earrings.

Maireas · 07/12/2024 18:26

That sounds like a plan.
I intend to wear my Kokoshnik and the Royal Spanish earrings.

Fancy! I'm sure you will look beautiful.

On a different subject, I've been looking at Catherine's bow and it lines up so perfectly with her lapels I don't see how it's part of a top.

Maireas · 07/12/2024 18:30

I think someone said it's part of the coat?

Ah that would explain it. It's a bit weird on photos but maybe worked better in person.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 07/12/2024 19:48

Mary and Marie twinning this evening!

It's a coat she's worn before so the bow is an addition.

I wondered whether Kate's black bow was a memorial bow/ribbon in recognition of people who had died and were unable to be there in person. When I saw it I immediately thought of the 16 year old cancer patient, Liz Hatton, who met Kate at Windsor and who was likely invited but died about 10 days ago.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 07/12/2024 21:55

That sounds plausible @Lunde. Could also be for the children who died.

If so it's an understandable addition.

MissTrip82 · 08/12/2024 07:37

Lovely new tiara. A modern take.

I often wonder what Mary makes of all of this, her upbringing was similar to mine in Australia but she’s a bit older. I can’t imagine having access to jewels like that. Or attending an event at which one would wear them!

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 08/12/2024 09:39

In her - 500th 😉 - 50th birthday interview there was a funny bit where the interviewer asked how it felt to be standing out on the balcony after the wedding and seeing all the thousands upon thousands of people there for her and Fred. She answered some quite pompous sounding thing about how it was destiny and it was always meant to be (or some such, can't quite remember) and then there was a visible moment where she remembered that she was probably supposed to be humble about it and started saying oh but of course it was amazing for me and so overwhelming etc etc. A rare slip-up by the Queen of slick PR.

Obviously she's got thoroughly used to it all after 20+ years so it came naturally to her to sound thoroughly royal about the whole thing. But back in the beginning you could see she definitely found it all quite something to be part of. I always feel sad for her that her mum didn't get to see her become Princess and then Queen; that must be quite painful for her.

I like the tiara. Such a very posh headband! It's understated and will be much more suitable for many modern functions, plus it's made from diamonds that are hundreds of years old and have huge provenance, being part of the Crown Jewels. I just think she could have made more of it for its first outing.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 08/12/2024 09:43

(Just realised the above sounds a bit sniffy but it isn't at all - I like Mary and think she's doing an excellent job in her role and has done since the beginning. By PR Queen I just mean she very rarely, if ever puts a foot wrong)

Maireas · 08/12/2024 09:54

@AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras - I agree because I think Mary has stepped up and has welcomed the role.

Good thinking @Lunde.👍
But it could have been a bit more subtle.
