I love that purple trouser suit!

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 08/12/2024 10:31

Yes it's great isn't it. Purple isn't my colour but it's fab on Mary. I also like Marie's suit, and I like that they both wore velvet which is so nice in winter.

justasking111 · 08/12/2024 11:04

Purple. Mary looks fabulous. Marie's made me giggle . Sons girlfriend had a tracksuit like that when he first met her. She loved her Juicy Couture back in the day.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 08/12/2024 11:15

Heh yes it brought that to mind for me too, @justasking111 but Marie can carry it off and I imagine her thinking, not so vulgar now is it! 😁

In her - 500th 😉 - 50th birthday interview there was a funny bit where the interviewer asked how it felt to be standing out on the balcony after the wedding and seeing all the thousands upon thousands of people there for her and Fred. She answered some quite pompous sounding thing about how it was destiny and it was always meant to be (or some such, can't quite remember) and then there was a visible moment where she remembered that she was probably supposed to be humble about it and started saying oh but of course it was amazing for me and so overwhelming etc etc. A rare slip-up by the Queen of slick PR.

Obviously she's got thoroughly used to it all after 20+ years so it came naturally to her to sound thoroughly royal about the whole thing. But back in the beginning you could see she definitely found it all quite something to be part of. I always feel sad for her that her mum didn't get to see her become Princess and then Queen; that must be quite painful for her.

I like the tiara. Such a very posh headband! It's understated and will be much more suitable for many modern functions, plus it's made from diamonds that are hundreds of years old and have huge provenance, being part of the Crown Jewels. I just think she could have made more of it for its first outing.

I think Mary has done really well, though there were times, like the endless 50th celebrations, when I rolled my eyes and thought "you're a marketing exec from Tassie, this is a bit OTT isn't it?" I remember being in Australia when they got engaged and there was a bit of amusement when she immediately started to speak English with a Danish accent!

I think she works hard in what could be a very tricky role and dare I say it, pretty much outshines Fred, who still has the slightly befuddled air of the eternal student who's suddenly found himself promoted to CEO and isn't quire sure how to deal with it.

Maireas · 08/12/2024 11:40

That's a good summary, Deftly! I think Mary is a very determined person and has a bit more heft than Fred. She definitely likes her role and status, and there's nothing wrong with that, she's trying to do a good job.

I agree. I've said before that I think Daisy recognised the makings of a top notch Queen-to-be when she was introduced to Mary.

I wondered whether Kate's black bow was a memorial bow/ribbon in recognition of people who had died and were unable to be there in person. When I saw it I immediately thought of the 16 year old cancer patient, Liz Hatton, who met Kate at Windsor and who was likely invited but died about 10 days ago.

Elsewhere I've seen speculation that, because she has worn bows a lot this year, they are a nod to cancer ribbons.

Personally I think the bow is too big to be either. I think she likes bows!

Agree 💯

I've only just noticed from the Trump/Paris photos, that William seems to still have some hair on the top of his head - I always thought he was billiard-ball bald but he must have been shaving it. (Can't link anything on my silly phone, sorry but plenty of snaps on Google)

Maireas · 08/12/2024 14:21

I saw that too, @Lifestooshort71 , it seems slightly longer, he used to shave it.

I think Camilla fared the best there!

Those are terrifying @Papergirl1968 - the unfortunate placing of the hanging thingy makes William look like he's starring in the King and I. 😂

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 08/12/2024 21:24

I think that's Charles, though I understand the mistake because it's on the young side.

Papergirl1968 · 08/12/2024 21:27

The royals are meant to buy each other joke presents for Xmas. I think I’d be tempted to get some of them to hand out if I was invited to Sandringham this year.

The one in the crown is Charles, the no crown therefore the hanger-y bit giving a King and I top knot effect is William.

KillingMeDeftIy · 08/12/2024 21:57

Charles looks like the Harry Enfield version and, weirdly, Kate looks more like Eugenie!

It totally looks like they worked from a picture of Haydn Gwynne in The Windsors than the real Camilla though!

Her eyebrows look really sinister 😂

MrsLeonFarrell · 09/12/2024 07:48

£40 for those? There are ornaments for £5 in my local garden centre that are more accurate, albeit not of the royals.

Love this!😆
More money than sense at £40 each if anyone was really actually enthusiastic enough to want to buy them for their tree...

How about this one

Off with her head!
