@Choux yes I get what you're saying. I half agree. But also half don't agree. 😆

I found a really good article on Mary and her clothing choices, a while back, which I was going to translate and post, but never got around to it and now I have to find it again. She was criticised quite a lot for her unsustainable approach to clothing a few years ago and said at the time that she was going to focus on bettering that aspect of her lifestyle. She has made marked efforts since which I think is admirable. And her outfits really haven't been any less interesting for it. In fact I think sometimes a more thoughtful approach makes for more interesting outfits as you're forced to think about new ways of wearing things or combining items. I'll see if I can find it again.

SqueakyDinosaur · 07/11/2024 13:54

My head spins when I think of the size of the wardrobes of QEII, Camilla and Kate. I mean, didn't we once count up how many green coats Kate had, on an earlier thread? It was around 10 that we could identify. I do think that's OTT. I also think she isn't really into fashion, not like Diana was - she always looks happiest to me when she's in her Breton top with jeans and boots.

Choux · 07/11/2024 14:08

It's 19 apparently (this is dated 18 months ago)
www.blogbymp.com/blog/the-19-green-coats

There have also been what Kate wore on Remembrance Sunday articles showing all her black coats and hats. A few rewears but still a large number of new hats and coats that are rarely seen elsewhere because they are black.

Choux · 07/11/2024 14:15

Here's the Remembrance Sunday outfits. There are a few rewears including a DvF coat worn three times in the early years. That might be good for her to wear this year as it looks warm but she seems to favour military uniform type outfits more in recent years.

I think she is very into fashion in clothing terms, actually - she clearly cares very much about what she wears as it's always immaculately fitted etc. She's just a more conservative dresser, and not necessarily into fashions/trends as such. But she's very stylish IMO, although there is some semantic variance to the discussion.

I really don't begrudge her as many coats as she wants. She has the money to pay for them and at the end of the day it's a minor dent in the earth's resources. I've had many coats in my time, some of which people might have argued were almost the same but I would've maintained that no, they weren't. I don't recall her lecturing anyone on how many coats they should own so I really don't care how many she has. If I were very wealthy I'd have a huge house, or more likely, several, stuffed edited to add full of coats to my heart's content and I'd make absolutely no apologies for it.

KillingMeDeftIy · 07/11/2024 15:30

I don't know where the idea that Kate isn't into fashion comes from. She clearly is into it, and there are some trends she has embraced like the floral maxi dresses a few summers ago and the more recent monochromatic looks.

KillingMeDeftIy · 07/11/2024 15:31

I'd actually love to know how royal women organise/access their wardrobes. Is Kate's like Cher's in Clueless??

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 07/11/2024 15:35

Yes I agree @KillingMeDeftIy - lately, the past few years especially, she has experimented more and shown quite a fashion forward streak. I am all for it. I just mean that there's nothing wrong with a more sedate or conservative fashion sense. I think we will see yet more experimentation to come.

KillingMeDeftIy · 07/11/2024 16:19

If I was to pick a royal who genuinely isn't into fashion I would say Stephanie of Luxembourg. Apart from on very formal occasions, she gives the impression that she reaches into her wardrobe and picks whatever is clean and ironed that day!

Her mother in law on the other hand...

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 07/11/2024 16:22

People say the same thing about Anne and that's really not accurate either!

Choux · 07/11/2024 16:38

Stephanie peaked at her pre wedding dinner and wedding day courtesy of Elie Saab.

Stephanie looks gorgeous in tjat sparkly gown. Saab is a favourite with the Luxembourg royals - he did Claire's and Alexandra's wedding dresses too, and MT frequently wears his designs. I have to give MT credit for never being dull!

Fergie at a book signing in Sydney (apparently the title is A Woman Of Intrigue), while Max is in yellow in Singapore and the Duchess of Gloucester stood in for Camilla at the Field of Remembrance at Westminster.

Mathilde's ensemble seems a bit OTT for a factory visit imho. Her outfits often tend towards being overly-formal and (dare I say) a bit stuffy for my taste. I'd love to see her in something more casual / relaxed.

This is Mathilde touring the factory, looking a bit less glam!

Papergirl1968 · 07/11/2024 20:04

Blimey, just googled and Mathilde is only 51. 😮

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 07/11/2024 20:15

Wonderful gowns! 😍😍😍 **I meant Stephanie's.

@SqueakyDinosaur you're right about Catherine generally looking very happy and relaxed in leisure/country/outdoorsy wear but I think that might be more about the types of activities she feels more comfortable with rather than the clothing. I expect she's more in her comfort zone there than at very formal events, although even that has changed markedly in the past several years to where she now comes across much more confident in her role than she may have done in the earlier years.

justasking111 · 07/11/2024 20:51

I wish Fergie wouldn' wear skater skirts sigh...

Think I've seen that dress on Max before. Not keen on the calamine lotion pink.

Well that's quite a difference! Grin But she could have rocked the white coat if it hadn't been over a dress my gran would wear to church... She dresses far older than 51 (I'm also surprised at that!)

Choux · 07/11/2024 21:50

Does Fergie have more than one skater skirt. When k saw the phone I thought 'not that skirt again!'

Seriously unflattering.

KillingMeDeftIy · 08/11/2024 10:48

Apparently Kate is going to be at the Festival of Remembrance event.

Duchess of Gloucester looks very smart, particularly as she would have had to pull an outfit together at short notice.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 08/11/2024 16:44

I expect she has a handful of appropriate outfits for different types of events planned and assembled at all times. I certainly would!

justasking111 · 08/11/2024 19:12

Isn't she fabulous. Taken in Sydney.
