Oh dear, I am trying but failing to apply a photograph. My factotum and occasional companion is called away and I am not familiar with the modern machinery.

Suffice to say, my embroidery is of a delicate nature.

It may appear below. It probably will not.

Beautiful. The petals look bit like Mary’s hair.

They do! How lovely!

I blush and thank you, Mary (may I call you Mary?), my skill was easily achieved . A cane upon the knuckles thrice daily, beautiful embroidery guaranteed.
Nanny thrashed my brother too. His calligraphy is beyond compare.
We were rewarded with blacmange.

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 22/09/2024 19:01

@MaryofTeck I was in hospital last week and faced a weekend pretty much solo at home.
Your perspective, ladylike advice, fashion pointers and no-nonsense views have rocked my world.
Should you ever be passing the Queen Victoria please do pop in. I won’t parade you in the bar you can pop up the apples and pears with me for a stiff brandy and some cleavage comparisons.
Whatever you do, don’t stop at The Albert for a tiff drink on the way I think you’ll get more than you bargained for. Don’t purchase anything from the stalls outside - the fabrics are man made, for starters.
Thank you and every poster here for making me laugh.

👏👏👏

Get well soon, PeggyMitchellsCameo

With your username, though, really looking forward to your own thread when you’re up to it. Maybe called “what’s going on”?

MaryofTeck · 22/09/2024 19:04

@MrsSkylerWhite - such a touching story. Please call me "May", my dear George and other loved ones and friends do. I believe in the benefits of firm boundaries for the young, otherwise, how will they learn? I read of baseball caps at breakfast, "joggers" at one's evening meal and I despair. No standards.

Dear @PeggyMitchellsCameo , why, that's quite the most charming invitation since I was invited to Humboldt Wurtemburg - Hessel -Kessel's second marriage to that Bohemian girl. Endless cider and a darts competition.
I'm so sorry to hear that you have been hors de combat, and trust you are in recovery. I will of course be deeply honoured to visit your establishment.
Your wit on these pages has been warmly welcomed 😊

I'm going to agree with @MrsSkylerWhite and say how much I would welcome your thread!

Thank you! I always wear silk or silk satin, wool in the Highlands, linen in Provence. For gigs like Glasto or Lanzarote, something less formal.

Everyone on this thread have all made my weekend. The fashion advice has been amazing. And the insight to how the other half live. I have laughed so much. Thank you. Please continue with new threads, because this is true talent and wit.

But it is still a mystery how old OP actually is. Which is fair enough. Some things should remain a mystery.

Our neighbours, the Vanderbilt Ashkettle Throgmorton Bedgoods will be green with envy!

We are most certainly not, velvetcoat! We possess a pineapple.
Envy is such a trade preoccupation.

Oh, heavens to Betsy! I did not realise you were on MN, Lady Vanderbilt Ashkettle Throgmorton Bedgood.

I was just er....jesting, yes thats it, jesting. I know you appreciate the wit of jesting.

Also, it was certainly not me that spread it around the village that your "pineapple" wasnt actually real and was in fact made of papermache which had been painted gold by your maid, Myrtle. Nope, certainly not me. In case you hear that from anyone that is. Not me. Nope.

Do allow me to play harpsichord for you by way of a peace offering. I'm currently working on a sublime arrangement of "Firestarter" by The Prodigy.

OP, I really admire your 'more is more' approach to jewellery wearing. Do all those necklaces (plus tiara) give you a headache though?

Good evening! One finds strength of mind and purpose. It's a funny thing that I have never been able to carry potatoes or coal, yet the equivalent weight in gold and diamonds is hardly a bother.
I wear a tiara to dinner every evening, so I am well practised. I don't think anyone other than my dresser has seen me without a necklace or seven. Determination.

Harumph! @velvetcoat

velvetcoat · 23/09/2024 07:36

@MrsSkylerWhite I am eating humble pie as we speak- it has a strange nutty taste, not quite the pheasant and quails eggs I am used to and it keeps getting stuck in my throat but I am making the effort you'll be pleased to hear.

I shall look forward to seeing you at croquet club and I can regale you with all the details of my suffrage.

MrsMoastyToasty · 23/09/2024 22:41

Are you well @MaryofTeck ? I was beginning to think that you had had a fit of the vapours or were suffering necklaces induced neck strain.

MaryofTeck · 24/09/2024 07:29

Good morning, @MrsMoastyToasty ! Quite well, thank you. I hope you are well? A brisk walk in the rain after my porridge and all is quite satisfactory. No vapours, unlike our dear cousin Adelheid who is quite a martyr to them, although personally I think it's the gin. The servants have taken to hiding it. As for me?As soon as my dresser puts the final necklace on, I am quite ready for the day.

OP posts:
MrsMoastyToasty · 24/09/2024 08:01

@MaryofTeck , well the working classes do call gin "mothers little helper" and Adelheid was never quite the same after having her 12th child...
