This article may solve your dilemma, westatlanticocean

What cream do you use for your neck, with all those heavy necklaces?

Since they made Nivea Soft vegan and useless, I am looking for a new one.

"Sturm" - a very rich beauty cream. German, of course. My assistant dresser Gertrude massages it in every morning and night. If I've worn more than 10 necklaces, she'll add a bit of Castrol GTX. Works a treat.

I find that suspending oneself upside for an hour each morning, whilst wearing one's largest and heaviest earrings, has a most beneficial skin tautening effect. Awfully good for the circulation. The secret to eternal youth, one might say.

Dear Lord. 😧

MaryofTeck · 22/09/2024 18:18

How fascinating, @MrsSkylerWhite , but aren't most of these still in use? My electric corset is most bracing! The crocodile treatment works well, I find, but you may get some servant with a nervous disposition unwilling to feed the creature or sweep it's pen. I've found an extra 5 shillings and a stern talking to does the trick. I am a progressive employer, as my dear friend above noted.

What a wonderful recommendation! How inventive. Do you have a couple of servants to hold you, or is there some sort of contraption?

5 shillings? You are an example to us all, MaryofTeck. A philanthropist and a society beauty. Your like is rare indeed.

UnctuousUnicorns · 22/09/2024 18:25

Oh, one can always summon a couple of sturdy young manservants for the task, one has found. Although one does have to take considerable care to hold onto one's skirts during the process. The potential loss of one's dignity otherwise simply doesn't bear thinking about.

Thank you my dear. I do try to be a role model for the modern era. It's a responsibility, but I'm there for it, as they say in modern parlance.

Riding breeches are the answer, UnctuousUnicorns.

How very practical. Perhaps tie a rope around your skirts for the duration? One's dignity is so important.

Genius. Perhaps those stiff wide ones.

I hesitate to differ. Up for it, though, is the phrase I believe.

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/09/2024 18:29

I dally too much. My embroidery awaits.

MaryofTeck · 22/09/2024 18:31

What is this evening's embroidery, @MrsSkylerWhite ? I once completed a needlepoint rendition of the Battle of Austerlitz. It hangs in the servants hall.

I'm afraid I don't own a pair of riding breeches. I'd forgotten that you were one of those vulgar modern ladies that insist on riding cross saddle these days. Call me old-fashioned, but old habits die hard with me.

Standards. Standards. I think possibly a sturdy rope across the skirts.

Oh goodness no, poor dear Cousin Berthalina attempted this, resulting in a tragic accident. Terrible business.

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/09/2024 18:36

A mere trifle

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/09/2024 18:37

I am attempting to “post” a “photograph”. The modern technology is failing me thus far.

Not Berthalina von Wurttemberg -Hessel- Kessel? Dreadful business. Still, her husband Humboldt re-married, didn't he? That nice girl from Bohemia. Strange long arms, but very personable.

Perhaps get the under gardener to try. They're practical chaps. Ours reconfigured our whole sewerage system. Marvellous.
