What’s this shoe trend? Medieval jester?

I do love browsing the latest trends to see what people are wearing but I’m seriously struggling to understand when/how medieval inspired shoes came into fashion. Anybody get this? I can’t decide whether I hate them or not - the Khaite ones seem to be selling out super fast 😂

Khaite boots
Toteme boots

£800 - £1200? For bad shoes?

FrostFlowers2025 · 15/09/2024 08:18

I remember pointed-toed shoes being all the rage in the early 2000s. I hated them. My feet are already quite large for a woman and these made them look even bigger.

EI12 · 15/09/2024 08:19

Khaite were all the rage in the mid 1980s! Toteme is something new?

Very popular in the sixties as I remember. Then they chopped of the point and we all wore chisel toes 😄

Those were winklepickers, the ones in the OP are poisoned as they stick up at the front.

SuperGinger · 15/09/2024 19:08

My sister in law described similar shoes as "so pointy you could kick a snake up the arse" when they were previously in fashion, the image still makes me chuckle

This discussion has had me in absolute stitches! I really needed cheering up today, so thank you OP and everyone else, some of the pictures 😆😆😆

Aww thanks. Yes I was having lots of fun until the comments saying the shoes looked normal 😣. I must have been sleeping through the 90s when these shoes were in fashion.

They can’t be comfortable either…

MrTwatchester · 16/09/2024 17:02

I own these R&B flats and it hadn’t occurred to me until this thread that they are vaguely medieval. It’s giving me new ideas for outfits. They’re surprisingly comfortable - cushioned soles and thick straps.

Massimo Dutti also going a bit hey nonny nonny this season… pitching it as city wear with an NY photo shoot

Amazing - I would never have picked up on the inspiration for this trend without this thread. Now I’ve seen it …

(And I don’t dislike it at all.)

Same @MetaDaughter, this thread is what S&B is all about.

I like this trend too, I think I need a peasant shirt of some kind. Not the Seinfeld puffy shirt though.

Love all of this. Bring me a pointy shoe, a wassail bowl, and some delicious mead (no plague thnkx).

VenusClapTrap · 16/09/2024 22:24

Dd splurged all her savings on a velvet cloak at a medieval fair in the summer. I’ll tell her she’s bang on trend.

That’ll wind her up 😁

Checkoutmyshoes · 17/09/2024 22:50

Oh dear, what have I done? Everyone’s going to be walking around in clothing like the Middle Ages 😂

On another note, and I apologise this is not in keeping with thread, but what on earth is going on here? Why are the sleeves not attached to the dress? (It’s from Zara for all of you that think this is amazing btw)

Now for an outfit that is in keeping with this thread. For some reason this poor girls sad expression is making me think she’s about to have tomatoes thrown at her.

I once hoiked the waistband of a pair of baggy lounge pants right up over my bare tits, because someone unexpectedly came into the room while I was changing.

Finally, I'm a trendsetter.

Think we've already ticked Plague off the list, thanks.

I was kind of missing the facemasks for spacing out the chin waxing appointments, though - a wimple could solve that and assist those overdue for sorting their root regrowth.

I think this headgear is what you need for a bit of Plague chic.
