What’s this shoe trend? Medieval jester?

I do love browsing the latest trends to see what people are wearing but I’m seriously struggling to understand when/how medieval inspired shoes came into fashion. Anybody get this? I can’t decide whether I hate them or not - the Khaite ones seem to be selling out super fast 😂

Poulaines! I once, for work, made a short documentary film about shoes, and medieval poulaines were discussed. Supposedly, they were representative of wang size.

Fascinating how stupid shoes that you can't walk in used to be men's bailiwick.

Love that word. Bailiwick not wang!

We call them 'shit flickers'

One of my friends at school {Francesca if you are reading this I have never forgotten the horror!} was kicking through early autumn leaves in her open toe ''play deck'' sandals and got a dog turn caught between her toes and the base of the sandal...

Notsure94 · 13/09/2024 11:52

I had a couple of pairs of boots in the early noughties that had very pointy tips. Karen Millen and a pair of gorgeous pink suede knee highs from Blue Velvet but sadly I've not been able to wear them for years as the pointy toe has dated... So if the trend comes back I'll be happy to get some more wear out of them!!!

I loved Playdeck sandals. Bought a new pair once a year and wore them constantly all summer until they fell apart. I think they were Clark's.

DH had a pair of winklepickers in the '60s. Elastic sided Beatle Boots.

Pretty sure (though have deleted unedited photos) the studded boots are part of the new Khaite collection at Net-a-Porter.

Yup. Here:

Enjoy your medieval cosplay!

WhiteLily1 · 13/09/2024 16:46

Yes I used to have these in the 90’s. Really quite uncomfortable but all the fashion. Slung them in the back of my wardrobe and found them a few years ago. They looked ridiculous. Should have kept them 🤣
These pointy boots come round every 30 years I find. They were really popular in the 60’s too

They’re popular… all sizes sold out!

womp womp

MetaDaughter · 13/09/2024 16:58

Try other Khaite stockists - ideally in the UK.

Checkoutmyshoes · 13/09/2024 17:10

@MetaDaughter oh wow, these like the kind of shoes I imagine one would wear in the medieval army 😂

Then my Manolos will be back in fashion too! 😀

MovingTooFast121 · 13/09/2024 19:23

I loathe pointy shoes of any variety. Always have. Either it’s going to make your foot look two inches longer than it is, or it’s going to cripple your toes into bunion territory.

Bandstander · 13/09/2024 20:19

I don’t get the hate- they don’t seem remarkable in any way to me, but I’m an old goth who still wears winkle pickers and pikes lol

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 13/09/2024 21:32

I feel my toes would be happier toes with these ...

@OutwiththeOutCrowd for some reason these are giving me Lurch from the Addams Family vibes!

Oooh wow are they back? I have a very similar pair stashed at the back of my wardrobe. I just knew they'd be back 😅

katseyes7 · 13/09/2024 23:09

Definitely not for me.
And l speak as someone who wore shoes and boots with 3" platforms and 6" heels in the 70s.

MrTwatchester · 12/09/2024 11:03

I hate the clompy, thick-soled boots, trainers, loafers etc that have been the trend for the last few years. I struggle to walk in soles that are more than a couple of cm high—I feel like I have no connection to the ground and end up going over on my ankle. Can't wear wedges for the same reason. I also hate the feeling of "too much shoe", so I'm glad to see thin soles and soft uppers coming back in.

Vivobarefoots are the way to go for you. Really comfy and connected to the ground!

GoingRoundThatBlockAgain · 12/09/2024 08:10

Personally I am looking forward to my Satin Caterpillar era - thanks @MetaDaughter!

Get one in green.

Buy a hookah.

You're set for next year's Alice Day in Oxford!

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 13/09/2024 23:55

I don't like them very much, especially the second pair, but I was expecting something much more extreme and ridiculous from the title and OP!

veggie50 · 14/09/2024 06:34

Surely, it is illegal to drive in them?
