Ten, even five years ago Boden sold beautiful tweed jackets and skirts made from pure British wool milled in Yorkshire.

In 2024, to celebrate their British heritage, we have been treated to these garish, made in China horrors…

I can only assume Johnny Boden has recently watched The Producers and is trying to get rich by producing a business-ending flop.

That’s all.

They are hideous. I do however love the jumper in the swirly pattern, and would buy it if £60 cheaper

henlake7 · 06/09/2024 23:22

Well, just seen an ad on YT starring all this gear.
They are obviously very proud of it.

YouOKHun · 06/09/2024 23:50

MidnightPatrol · 03/09/2024 18:23

Didn’t they apologise a couple of years ago for ‘getting it wrong’ having had a similarly outlandish Union Jack range?

And… again?

Im undecided if I like or dislike the shoes / red tartan in general. Possibly just nostalgia for how my mum and her friend dressed in the late 80s / early 90s however.

Yes I remember that @MidnightPatrol. I gave up on Boden a long time ago but I remember looking at a Boden catalogue not long after the apology and thinking it had improved a lot. When I’ve looked since I’ve found it getting fussy again; too many frills, puff shoulders and silly fabrics. This Bay City Rollers themed comedy collection is really off the mark. Who will buy it? It’s very expensive for the quality apart from anything else. I agree with a PP, Johnnie’s had enough and decided to have a bit of fun and go out with a bang.

I would never wear it on a regular basis, but I do quite like the blazer! It would be perfect for a Eurovision themed party or a jubilee or coronation!

I do not, however, like it enough to spend 160 of my hard earned British pounds on it!

Well if you had a time machine it would be perfect.

2022 Platinum jubilee
2022 Eurovision when we came second
2023 Coronation

But I can't see any use in the near future.

I was looking at these on my latest email from Boden last night, slightly bemused and ambivalent tbh. My only thought was of the multitude of times these will appear next year in their frequent Sale emails… hideous (sorry)

FluffyMitt · 07/09/2024 09:02

Speechless. I haven't paid attention at all to Boden for years, what happened to them?

A few weeks ago I found a box of old clothes buried under a pile suitcases. Opening it was like Christmas, it was items I had been wearing around twenty years ago. I thought I'd donated the box at the time. Brands I was loving back then were Per Una, Monsoon and Boden. It was very noticeable that the quality was excellent, both the fabrics and the stitching, hems, button holes the correct size etc.
I wore Boden to the office. As a side note, most of my non-work clothes had loads of embellishments as was the fashion. Sequins and dangly beads on everything, even adorning jeans (bootcut of course)seams and pockets 😂

Lolatusernamesuggestions · 07/09/2024 09:25

Well that woke me up 🤣
I muttered fucking hell when I saw the Victorian western style tartan dress. It's just missing the straggly black bows (nod to a very funny thread currently running in style).
Each click warranted a fuck off, NO, fucking hell and I can't do this anymore - in that order.

If I saw someone wearing a union jack I’d assume they were a racist gammon

My husband has Union Jack cufflinks. Mainly to annoy his idiotic SNP supporting brother. "Gammon" is a vile expression.

PadstowGirl · 07/09/2024 09:39

You have obviously never been to a football match. The uniform is black and mostly "BOSS".

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 07/09/2024 09:40

I like this outfit but given what it's made of it , it needs to be either much more expensive and wool, or made in what it is anf much cheaper.

Boden kilt

I support the SNP and that wouldn’t annoy me, I’d just feel embarrassed for the gammon

LaSourciereEfrontee · 07/09/2024 09:54

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle I like the design of the kilts too but there’s no way I’m buying it in polyester. Boden kilts used to be made with tweed from the Moon mill in Yorkshire. I’ve dropped a stone and can now fit into one I bought a decade ago. With a black merino polo neck and brown leather boots it’s going to be bloody gorgeous for the winter.

needsomewarmsunshine · 07/09/2024 09:58

Boden always comes across as stodgy and for older women, I'm an older woman but wouldn't wear their tweeds for example. I don't get the love for it on MN but each to their own.
These new things are so un Boden style I honestly thought it was april fools.

In which case I'd be embarrassed for you by your gullibility.

Gammon is a vile expression but I guess you're the type of left wing SNP supporter who thinks being a left wing SNP supporter gives you a free pass. Like my husband's brother and his wife who talk about "white settlers"

I’d love to be a fly on the wall in your in laws house after you visit, I bet they dine out on it for weeks

Deary me. I'm Scottish and could see the blazer going down a storm at a rangers match.
I really miss my lovely boiled wool coat (worn when DS1 was a baby, he's now 16) and a couple of work dresses I had in different colours, but those monstrosities remind me why I never even look at the website anymore.

Fran & Anna would have loved the shoes! Och aye!

WhataPithy · 07/09/2024 13:14

I’m an immigrant (naturalised Brit now) and I love bit of Union Jack. I’ll admit I like those cardigans but won’t order one as UJ seems bit naff fashion wise right now.

Tbh it has never occurred to me that someone would consider me a gammon (I agree it’s an awful term). I’ve always been more worried about looking naff Grin

spelling mistake edited.

TheGander · 07/09/2024 15:32

Is Johnny selling most of his schmutter in the USA now? Maybe it goes down better there, I don’t know. I mostly come across Boden in charity shops now, and always give it a swerve.
