Ten, even five years ago Boden sold beautiful tweed jackets and skirts made from pure British wool milled in Yorkshire.

In 2024, to celebrate their British heritage, we have been treated to these garish, made in China horrors…

I can only assume Johnny Boden has recently watched The Producers and is trying to get rich by producing a business-ending flop.

That’s all.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall in your in laws house after you visit, I bet they dine out on it for weeks

Why do you think I waste my time visiting narrow- minded bigots?

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 07/09/2024 16:59

This collection is all over the place. Bits of it (the red tartan dress, the navy kilt, the shoes, even the jumper) are ok but the materials are shoddy.

The Urban Outfitter tartan dress on another thread is cheaperand made of cotton. Lots of brands, e.g Nobody's Child, Joannie, Anthropologie, Seasalt and Palava can do pure cotton and linen dresses for the price Boden is asking for that dress, or less. Palava even make them in the UK.

The navy kilt would be fantastic in wool, even if it added another £100 or so.

JohnTheRevelator · 07/09/2024 17:14

OMG every one of those is ghastly. Especially the dresses the woman and little girl were wearing.

Mintypig · 07/09/2024 18:30

£150 ?! Wow 😮 for that jumper - really?!!

NicolaSturgeon · 07/09/2024 18:38

You can get those tartan shoes for a tenner at Soctopus on the Royal Mile.

Pearlinda · 07/09/2024 18:46

Hideous across the board! Awful!!

Oh sorry, your husband must go on his own to show off his cufflinks then 😂

Perhaps they have the same opinion of you.

He rarely sees them because of their abhorrent political views. The first time they met me they thought it was really funny to mock my accent. I'm not "Scottish" according to them.

If I saw someone wearing a union jack I’d assume they were a racist gammon

Really? It’s been worn ironically since the 70s as an anti-establishment symbol so it sounds like you’re wildly misreading most people who wear it! I don’t think many racists actually go around wearing Union Jack clothes in daily life lol.

I associate it with the sex pistols, 90s Britpop, Vivienne Westwood, the Union Jack Mini Cooper 😂. Not styled like this of course.

I think the whole movement started in relation to reclaiming it and not allowing a flag to be associated with nationalism and racism.

Lucky them!

Same @LaSourciereEfrontee except still trying ti lake a stone so I can get back into my Moon tweed Boden numbers!

I do still buy from Boden and think their styles have slightly improved the low of one to two years ago but this Union Jack stuff isn't right...

Boden used to be recognisably British due to the style, not because of flags...

Ohwhatswrong · 08/09/2024 09:39

I like the mother and daughter matching dresses. A bit expensive but I'll be looking out for them in their next sale 😊

Laboheme78 · 08/09/2024 10:41

I think there is a lot of heritage/country attire in collections this year. I blame Claudia Winkleman and The Traitors though her wardrobe was a lot more subtle than the Boden stuff in the last series! I also remember when Boden started they had beautiful simple clothes in amazing fabrics and colours that I couldn’t afford. Now I can afford it but no clue who they are designing for.

Girlking · 08/09/2024 12:39

LoveSandbanks · 04/09/2024 19:11

Fucks sake, this would take some bravery to wear.

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/alba-check-maxi-dress/sty-d1097

Absolutely hideous 😬 and very badly made, the print doesn’t even match at the side seams.
Who on earth would wear that and pay £155.00 !

MrsSlocombesCat · 08/09/2024 13:02

I always buy Boden leggings but everything else is overpriced as far as I am concerned. Even if I was a millionaire I wouldn't be spending £160 on a jacket.

I’m not a millionaire and I’ve spent a lot more than that!

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 08/09/2024 20:30

The jacket would look better if they had matched the pattern on the back, for that price I'd expect that at least.

Happyher · 08/09/2024 20:58

Are they trying to appeal to the far right rioters?

MrsPoirot · 08/09/2024 21:25

LoobyDoop2 · 03/09/2024 18:36

God, that’s awful. I thought they were ditching the shit and listening to their core customers now?

I thought that too, and their summer collection was a bit better, but this is returning to the awfulness of the last 2-3 years. I don't understand it - I used to be a hardcore Boden fan but this autumn catalogue went straight into the recycling.

thekrakenhasgone · 08/09/2024 22:14

I used to buy a lot of Boden, I actually planned to be online for the sale the minute it went live. I bought lots of clothes for the DCs from there too. I think I was one of their very first customers- I remember buying a lovely blue and white shirt from them from a A4 leaflet catalogue sent to me in around 1996 ish??

I haven't bought a single thing from them for 5 years maybe. I can't find anything I like - or if I do like it I'm not prepared to pay the money for it

PersephoneSeethes · 09/09/2024 09:06

Apparently ‘Cool Britannia’ is back now that Labour is back in government. Remember Geri Halliwell in the Union Jack dress?

Therightcoffee · 09/09/2024 10:53

It's not quite the same thing now is it - we've got 50 year old Gallagher brothers forming out their old hits to look forward to. The Boden collection is about as cool as that!

Snowplop · 09/09/2024 11:37

Coughsweet · 03/09/2024 22:40

Oh dear. When I hear the word “Boden” I feel nostalgic for my baby DCs and that discount code that always gave £10 off a £30 spend. Now my DCs are 18 and 15 and any time I leave through a Boden catalogue its through my fingers

Exactly my thoughts. I also remember the fantastic sales. I'd put in huge orders for fabulous quality baby/child stuff that was worn until outgrown and then handed down again and again.

ExpatForLife · 09/09/2024 13:43

I saw someone wearing one of the long plaid tiered dresses in the wild yesterday - she was super tall so it actually looked cool. I would look like Laura Ingalls in that.
