Okay, I'm well aware I am opening myself up to some right nasty comments and I will take them on the chin.

I'm 25, five foot four and 19 stone and a few extra pounds. I am what you could describe as absolutely massive. I'm on Mounjaro and losing weight, but I have no idea how to dress myself.

Winter is trousers and a jumper. Summer is floaty dresses. Autumn and spring are the dresses plus a cardigan.

I've just done a Shein shop as I have no autumn/winter clothes, I've lost 2/3 stone since last autumn and nothing fits right, it's all too big. Add to these items two pairs of trousers - one neutral and one black, and that's pretty much my wardrobe for the next six months. Hopefully by the end of the season I'll be needing a new spring/summer wardrobe.

Am I actually horrendous at dressing myself?? Where can I improve?? Please help 😅

I fear that I look at my 65 year old mother's wardrobe and half the time go "yeah, that's a bit of me" when I'm only 25!!! I don’t know how to style anything 😩

All absolutely fine.

It's fine to not know, it's fine to not care what others would choose!

Current weight (well inches, going by the Shein size guides), but I've lost 5 inches in about 3 weeks so I'm hoping it all fits through the whole winter

I don't like to take risks per se, at my heaviest I was 25 stone and I've always hated my body so my default is very covered up, I'll only wear shorts when it's practical etc

Some nice bits especially the skirts and dresses.
I’m afraid that it lacks colour. The blanket stitch jumper and flowery jumper are ugly.
horizontal stripes are not great either for a larger lady.

I’m on mounjaro too. I would try to buy as little as possible at a time when you are losing weight. You will be a size 18 in no time at all.

Yeah some of them I like but then I'm like "are these actually ugly" 🤣🤣

I'm trying to buy as little as possible which is why I've used Shein, but I have nothing for autumn and the office is already so cold!

Hmm it’s a mixed bag tbh some nice pieces but then some ugly 🙈😂 sorry. But everyone’s tastes are different so you’re going to get some people that love what you’ve got whilst others will hate them. I do think it looks like your dressing older than your age but as long as you’re comfy and happy that’s all that matters.

This is the thing is it feels like everyone my age has such different tastes in clothes, but as long as I look somewhat presentable for work and I'm comfy I'm kinda like "eh who cares" but I also want to put some more effort in! So tough 😩

Just go with what you’re comfy and feel confident in. A few nice key pieces I’m sure you’ll look presentable

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 03/09/2024 16:08

I don't tend to feel confident in much, I'm hoping that as I lose weight I do develop some confidence and a sense of style - I'm not one of those people who will sit here and go "I'm beautiful at any size" because I recognise that my body is ugly!

This is actually a myth - there have even been studies done on it! Horizontal stripes don't make you look wider.

I really like the oversize cardigan as it's styled in the picture over the black jeans and vest. All the skirts are nice too, especially the leopard one, and will look good with boots in autumn/winter.

I'm less keen on the blanket stitch brown jumper - just looks a bit kind of mediaeval-peasant to me, and I think the jumper with the flowers might be a bit ageing on someone of 25.

I like the stripy dress in the last picture BUT you really don't need to hide under tent-type shapes. By all means do that if it's what you feel great in, but don't do it just to hide your body - you don't need to, you can show your waist and natural shape!

I'm a stripe lover, a couple of years ago I literally only owned striped tops 😅

I want to become more comfortable with wearing things tucked into my jeans, as at the moment I tend to only wear t-shirts that go past my belly to hide it. To be honest I've always felt very ashamed of my body and I've just wanted to hide it away, but I want to change that mindset now

And the more I look at that jumper the more it's giving potato sack!!

Don't buy Shein. Not only because they are a sweatshop employing children but also because the clothes are ugly and flammable.
If on a budget try Tu. Lots of nice dresses and tops in cotton. Or Vinted.

sunseaandsoundingoff · 03/09/2024 16:42

Your clothing sense is 0 just for using Shein.

olympicsrock · 03/09/2024 16:43

Interesting regarding horizontal stripes…
The jumpers are really not nice though.
I like jumpers with texture - v necks always flattering on me.
what about something like this?

It's fine to buy from places like Shein, especially when you know you're going to be dropping sizes quite quickly. Mumsnet hate Shein but in reality there are very few companies that produce clothing ethically. The quality is quite hit and miss and the skirts and dresses seem to be much better quality than the knitwear. I'm really not keen on the beige or flower one. Maybe look on Tu or Asos for just a couple of knitwear pieces to see you through this winter. I'd start thinking of what sort of clothes you'd like to wear when you are at the weight you want to be, maybe think of a celebrity whose style you like and take it from there, make a pinterest board. Good luck with the weight loss

Thank you!

Their knitwear has been really hit and miss, I'm happy to send back any that's shite, but the dresses I've had from them I've never had any issues with and have consistently had compliments on, people stop me in the street and tell me they love my dress!
