Okay, I'm well aware I am opening myself up to some right nasty comments and I will take them on the chin.

I'm 25, five foot four and 19 stone and a few extra pounds. I am what you could describe as absolutely massive. I'm on Mounjaro and losing weight, but I have no idea how to dress myself.

Winter is trousers and a jumper. Summer is floaty dresses. Autumn and spring are the dresses plus a cardigan.

I've just done a Shein shop as I have no autumn/winter clothes, I've lost 2/3 stone since last autumn and nothing fits right, it's all too big. Add to these items two pairs of trousers - one neutral and one black, and that's pretty much my wardrobe for the next six months. Hopefully by the end of the season I'll be needing a new spring/summer wardrobe.

Am I actually horrendous at dressing myself?? Where can I improve?? Please help 😅

They all do!

No, they don’t. Have a look at sites like Good On You to get more info.

I'm plus sized and shop at shein!

I love all of those clothes and would buy them, apart from the flower jumper, and even that I don't hate, just would need very careful styling not to look frumpy.

Well done on the weight loss!

Today I'm wearing black three quarter length trousers with an oversized tshirt.

@NeedSomeAnswersPlease
I hope so too! 😂 I love the grey long dress with boots. I am going to have a look for that today

I think the flower jumper was a "it looks cute on the model" moment and it probably won't on me 🤣 I've got some beige trousers and a black and white striped top on today, so tough to dress for this weather at the moment!

I like the older money style - quite classic and simple, but as I've been told before, you can't look classy at my size

If you like classic, simple styles you might like Lydia Tomlinson's styling videos:

@BigComfyTracksuit , OP is currently in need of clothes that fit her current size. She's not asking for a lecture on child labour.

If you can think of ethical brands that have a wide range of sizes, do post a link.

This is a very nasty comment, and to say I shouldn't be a mother because I don't have the budget to pay for ethical clothing is disgraceful.

I'm sorry but any shop that fits within my budget will not have good practices. What am I meant to do? Walk around naked?

I think this is something a lot of people don't realise.

Ethical clothing is expensive at the best of times and they very rarely cater to plus sizes

If I was intending to stay at my current size it would be, but buying single pieces that are £50-£150 and won't fit me in a few months just isn't financially feasible for me

Another vote for the Shein disapproval. Aside from the slavery aspect, you may find your credit card/bank details hacked too.

Waterboatlass · 04/09/2024 14:30

Mixed bag, I accept you're buying shein to tide you over and can sell on or donate after. Those talking about fast fashion have made their point.

You can always buy good quality second hand as you go or at your target weight (most of my wardrobe has been found this way). eBay, vinted or online charity shops worth a look but fine that you need some bits in the meantime.

It's hard to say if the colours are good on you without knowing your colouring. The jumpers are very unflattering, I'm sure of it. floral, striped and blanket stitched, also striped bag thing. Sorry. Like the satin skirt but shein weight and quality will cling to tights. Google tricks to prevent this. Dresses are nice. Get some good quality tights. I like the cardi that sits open. That will be flattering.

KirstenBlest · 04/09/2024 14:30

You don't buy them in the shops/sites, you go to Seasalt Cornwall Official Outlet | eBay Stores or look for pre-loved.
Cheap Dresses for Women | Women's Discount Dresses | E5P – Everything5Pounds (not likely to be ethical)

Absolutely disgusting post. You should be ashamed of yourself.

XiCi · 04/09/2024 14:41

The OP didn't ask for opinions on whether she should use Shein. Maybe those that feel strongly about ethical clothing should start their own thread. What the links provided have shown me though is that there is virtually nowhere in the UK to buy ethical clothing and what there is is very limited. I'd rather never buy clothes again than dress in Seasalt.
Love to know where all these keyboard warriors buy their clothes, their shoes, their trainers, their handbags, phones, laptops, jewellery, coffee, where they go on holiday etc etc etc. Really doubt they source it all ethically, just that it's easy to jump on a Shein bandwagon and the people that buy from Shein are usually poor so it's a double win to kick someone when theyre down as well.

I also think it shows a level of disdain for those of us who are overweight, it's just something else to judge us for

crowgift · 04/09/2024 14:44

I think all the comments re Shein are very reasonable and fair. No one's wish (it's not a need unless you are actually naked) for cheap clothes should lead them down the path to excusing child and forced labour and Shein is spectacularly heinous.

PamperGoals2024 · 04/09/2024 14:48

I honestly wouldn't spend money on clothes until you are at your goal weight. I did this and ended up selling so much stuff.

All you need for winter is a pair or two of jeans, a white shirt, a couple of cardigans. Marks and Spencer do a great long line cardigan. A longline stripe vertical stripe shirt is good too for slimming.

Maybe one dress for going out to the parties. And a jumper with some sparkle in it. Marks and Spencer also do a good black wide leg trouser that is pretty versatile. You can probably find them on Ebay too for cheaper. The good thing with M&S is that you can sell the trousers if too big. I sold mine for £10.

Honestly I wouldn't give it too much thought until you are at your happy weight.

KirstenBlest · 04/09/2024 15:25

@PamperGoals2024 , OP needs more than what you are suggesting. She needs a capsule wardrobe that will fit her now and for the next few months. Her basics from last winter won't fit. She has a job.
She is continuing to lose weight and will be doing so for some time, but her life and her career won't be on hold during that time.

Why should she wait until then to look nice?

I have no love for Shein, but OP is limited by what is available.
The issue surely is why is the choice of clothes outside the size 8-18 range so limited?

@XiCi , I used to think that about Seasalt until I actually went to their shop to get a present for an older relative. I saw lots of things I liked.
One thing struck me was that there was a wider range of sizes, and they weren't the square shaped oversized garments or stretchy bodycon you get with fast fashion. In my high street, I'd go to New Look, Zara and H&M for cheap fashion, but they don't do plus size.
