Okay, I'm well aware I am opening myself up to some right nasty comments and I will take them on the chin.

I'm 25, five foot four and 19 stone and a few extra pounds. I am what you could describe as absolutely massive. I'm on Mounjaro and losing weight, but I have no idea how to dress myself.

Winter is trousers and a jumper. Summer is floaty dresses. Autumn and spring are the dresses plus a cardigan.

I've just done a Shein shop as I have no autumn/winter clothes, I've lost 2/3 stone since last autumn and nothing fits right, it's all too big. Add to these items two pairs of trousers - one neutral and one black, and that's pretty much my wardrobe for the next six months. Hopefully by the end of the season I'll be needing a new spring/summer wardrobe.

Am I actually horrendous at dressing myself?? Where can I improve?? Please help 😅

Not sure what size you are, but Tu dress here looks good, in cotton. tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/product/tuc145071117

If only I knew what size I was 😩 I'll take a look at tu!

A good tip I got years ago was to never be ashamed to simply try on the outfits in the shop windows. Head to toe! People are paid a lot of money to put together looks that look good! I know Shein has its issues but putting together looks is something it does really well. So if you're trying to start a new wardrobe it's a good place to start.

Re "your nans wardrobe", that type of look is really trendy right now so lean into it and you'll look bang on trend!

I think it’s really sad so many people buy from companies that use slave labour and child labour.

I think it's really sad that you don't realise literally every high street brand does that, and some of us do not have the luxury of being able to drop £100s on one dress

Well said.

I think you have pretty good taste OP! Its not all to my tastes but I can see it all working well together, as others have said it is a little bit safe but then I imagine the more weight you lose the more you will experiment!
As others have said Tu is pretty good for well made basics (added advantage that Tu always seems to sell for peanuts on Vinted!).

Its funny how your tastes develop as you lose weight though. 2 yrs ago my entire wardrobe was 2 pairs of black stretchy jersey trousers and a handful of giant t shirts. The more weight I lost the more I branched out though!😊

Thanks!

I already wear different things to what I used to - 18 months ago I'd never wear a dress! It's slow progress but I'm sure I'll get there

I really don’t like the first brown jumper it looks like a potato sack and depending on where it hits could be quite unflattering. Also hate the flower jumper! Everything else is nice though and I’m sure you’ll look lovely. It might take a while to change your mindset but down get everything baggy to cover you up make sure things have nipped in waists etc to show your figure (like the skirts have)
You can’t go wrong with a nice chunky midi length open cardigan though, in the right colour they look great with most things in winter. I have a black one I love and have had it a few years now!

You are right that other - more expensive - companies have really poor labour practices.

But you’re wrong that if you’re on a budget you have no choice but to shop from these companies.

Lots of people have suggested alternatives to Shein if you’re on a budget. Look at the replies to this thread.

Assuming you’re in the Global North, perhaps in the UK? You are wealthy and privileged when you look at a global scale. You’re much wealthier than the people that are exploited to make your clothes.

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 03/09/2024 17:51

@ChilliPB I understand that and I am aware that Shein is by no means ideal to get clothing.

However, as I have explained, I'm losing weight at a pretty decent weight and I need cheap clothing. I understand that vinted is an option but it's a lot harder to build a capsule wardrobe from there.

I don't need the judgment.

Not all of us can afford designer brands all the time

I think there's a happy medium!

EmpressOfTheThread · 03/09/2024 17:55

Maybe don't buy any more clothes until you've reached your target weight?

I'm down 2/3 stone from last year, so none of last years clothes fit me, the jumpers look far too oversized to be presentable for work - that's why I've gone for a small capsule from Shein as opposed to tons and tons of clothing, I need to lose at least 8 more stone so I'll need to buy more!

Snowdrops17 · 03/09/2024 17:57

I think some of the clothes are very baggy which is understandable I'm like that carrying a few extra pounds but maybe as the eight comes off you will feel more comfortable I'm more figure hugging outfits . Your young so enjoy it while you can I'm pushing 40 and wish I had had more confidence when I was your age and just worn what I wanted and gotten the crazy hairstyles I always played it safe .

I see. That's a huge weight loss! It still seems like a bit of a waste. Would it not be possible to use charity shops and re-donate?

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 03/09/2024 18:00

@EmpressOfTheThread I sell as much as I can on vinted, if not it all goes to the BHF donation point near my house :)

You are in your 30’s you are still young too! Wear what you want, you don’t have to shrink in the background at a certain age!

LoobyDoop2 · 03/09/2024 18:34

I don’t like the last two- the jumper with massive flowers or the stripy dress. The jumper is very Sue Pollard, and the dress is shapeless and sack-like. The rest of it is nice, though.

KateMiskin · 03/09/2024 18:38

Instead of that heinous brown sack jumper, wouldn't you rather spend just £17 more and buy something in quality wool from Uniqlo? Will fit into your small capsule.

lol I've got the message on the brown jumper 😅 but no I don't want to spend £30 on a jumper that hopefully won't fit me in 6 months time

It’s not awful but you obviously don’t like them so why wear them?

Whose style do you admire?

PrimalLass · 03/09/2024 18:49

I'm not mad on the high neck jumpers but love the skirts
