Okay, I'm well aware I am opening myself up to some right nasty comments and I will take them on the chin.

I'm 25, five foot four and 19 stone and a few extra pounds. I am what you could describe as absolutely massive. I'm on Mounjaro and losing weight, but I have no idea how to dress myself.

Winter is trousers and a jumper. Summer is floaty dresses. Autumn and spring are the dresses plus a cardigan.

I've just done a Shein shop as I have no autumn/winter clothes, I've lost 2/3 stone since last autumn and nothing fits right, it's all too big. Add to these items two pairs of trousers - one neutral and one black, and that's pretty much my wardrobe for the next six months. Hopefully by the end of the season I'll be needing a new spring/summer wardrobe.

Am I actually horrendous at dressing myself?? Where can I improve?? Please help 😅

It’s not awful but you obviously don’t like them so why wear them?

Whose style do you admire?

I like the older money style - quite classic and simple, but as I've been told before, you can't look classy at my size

And dresses

PrimalLass · 03/09/2024 18:51

Zara do nice little basic thin jumpers that would go better.

I fear that I look at my 65 year old mother's wardrobe and half the time go "yeah, that's a bit of me" when I'm only 25!!! I don’t know how to style anything 😩

Yeah but a lot of 25 year olds dress quite 'modestly' (hate that word!) these days, it's not all body con dresses and vest tops with no bra.

You use a nice tasteful colour palette too, I imagine with some subtle make up (if that's your thing) and well maintained hair you probably look quite polished and put together.

@MargotEmin I'm definitely a lowkey makeup girl day to day, only time I don't is for "events" where I'll go for a red lip, my hair is always done in heatless curls 😂

What the fuck? Bollocks. Let’s prove them wrong.

What’s your colouring? Skin, hair, eyes?
Depending on your colouring instead of browns look at navy, camel, cream and black. Some hints of red or gold.

Do you like accessories?
What kind of lifestyle? (Running around with little children with a clutch bag is probably not advisable!).

@Dolliesdisasterousdayout

Pale, green eyes, dark blonde hair, no kids but I commute to and from work each day

Love the skirt choices, but it looks like you need a few more top options? I personally would go for a few more fitted tops, as all the skirts you have are quite Aline, and a fitted top looks better with that IMO.

I also dislike the jumper, but you e got enough feedback on that. I think the shoes don't fit the vibe you have going on- I personally would maybe look for a pair of suede look loafers, quite a minimalist pair, with the style of the rest of the outfits. I also think a few plain boxy t-shirts and a pair of coloured trainers might work with some of those skirts as a more casual vibe.

I have a few plain t-shirts to tuck into the skirts - I'm figuring that for most of winter I'll have a cardigan on anyway!

The shoes are more just day to day, I wouldn't wear them to work!

Seasalt does a range of sizes and the clothes sell on auction sites, as you will soon be too small for what you buy now.

Tu is pretty good, Matalan (the odd gem) and Bon Marche (comfy) are not bad. I'd also try other high street shops.

Charity shops are great if you don't mind a rummage.

You have posted some nice things @NeedSomeAnswersPlease . The 'potato sack' jumper is a 'nul points' though.

Bear in mind that your shoes size will almost certainly change.

I'm aware that I've mentioned some shops that don't scream fashionable, but don't dismiss them completely.

I've already dropped down a size!! Hoping my feet narrow a little rather than just shrink

You could also try looking at a minimal
Capsule wardrobe I say minimal because you are loosing weight and so there is no point spending loads but I get what you mean about Shein. Perhaps you could buy 2 x jeans / trousers, couple of blouses - tend to think blouses work to look smart, I think the floral jumper is a little old for you sorry. Love the gold skirt

I'm holding onto my jeans until the bitter end, I love them 😭

I go on pintrest and get outfit inspiration from there.

The trouble is with shein, the clothes are modelled by women with usually unrealistic body types.

The plus size women tend to have flat stomachs and curves in all of the right areas.

The good thing is that some people take their own photos to show what it looks like on a real body.

Some clothes on shein are amazing but some are very cheaply made and do not fit right.
Look on shein but also look in places like asda and primark too.

ihatecoffee · 03/09/2024 19:18

I actually love everything you've listed!

Classy, timeless and elegant!!!

Good luck on your weight loss journey xxx

KirstenBlest · 03/09/2024 19:27

Can't guarantee that they will, feet tend to spread when you gain weight (e.g. during pregnancy) and unspread afterwards. I love sensible footwear of the spendy variety but am not recommending it for you right now.

Primark is great for nice-looking shoes that don't last long. M&S does wide fit and usually have something decent.

Skyrainlight · 03/09/2024 19:36

I like everything you have chosen with the exception of the satin skirt, but I know those are in and that's just a personal preference on my part. Particularly love the 2 brown jerseys and the green and white striped one. I think you will look great this autumn.

I like most of the pieces you've posted OP
The Satin skirt and the dresses especially.

But, you'd need to get them and try them all on first. Many times I've ordered beautiful things and was excited to get them and wear them.. and ended up looking like someone has wrapped a minibus in celebratory costumes..

My advice, set aside an hour, go to any shop you want, grab some arm fulls of clothes and hit the fitting rooms.

You don't have to buy stuff to try stuff and you can take photos and make notes of sizes and designs and then find similar for cheaper elsewhere.. 😁😁
