Nivea cream

If any of you are also a fan of nivea cream in the white tub/tube.

The formulation has changed and its rubbish, the new ones say the formula is vegan, the old ones don’t. Where we are lots of shops still have old stock, so if you’re fan get some to tide you over. We’ve bought two blue pots instead of our usual one in case that formulation changes as well.

@isthismylifenow check my photos up thread it says made in Germany. That's why I am very surprised. Very interesting that the same product in different packaging could be made firm different places and have different ingredients!

Max factor changed their facefinity compacts to vegan and they are absolutely shite now! I've been using it for over 20 years and they've lost a customer now. The colours are really orange despite having the same names. The reviews on Boots.com say it all. Not sure why these companies do this.

Same here. For 20 years, and now I have to find something else. It’s shite!

It's always been this way. It's not surprising at all. Many many products are formulated differently in different countries. Skin care, sun cream, food and beverages etc.

Different regions have different regulations so some ingredients that the EU have approved of are not approved for use in the USA. Some ingredients in food are in the same position. Some additives are approved in one country but the product has to be modified for another. There is also a cultural taste element. Some countries have a higher sugar or sweetener level than others.

cowandpigeon · 22/09/2024 13:29

I just bought a new one, it didn’t smell as nice and is not as good. Just checked and it’s the vegan one. Made in Hamburg (I’m in Scandinavia). I have excema, and this truly sucks! No more Nivea Soft for me. Bastards.

Yellowgold · 22/09/2024 14:09

@angstypant but I assumed the uk specific one will be similar for the original Nivea (in all sizes and containers). I know the USA one was always different.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 22/09/2024 16:20

@Aydel I got 3x 500ml for £17.10 on Amazon this week and they are still showing available.

Companies also love to sell inferior products in less powerful markets, passing it off under the 'local preference' rationale. It's been a big thing in inter-EU products, with Central-Eastern European countries being sold worse quality products than say, Germany. Sausages with more meat content in Germany than in Czech Republic, where they have more fat. Products made with sugar for Germany but with aspartame for the Czech Republic.

See this for some examples: https://www.politico.eu/article/a-snack-by-any-other-name-varying-food-standards-irk-new-eu-countries/

Has anyone found a good alternative yet? I have bought a couple of different moisturisers to try but none as good as Nivea Soft. 😟. (Will check out the Moo Goo).

bennyonthedispatch · 12/10/2024 10:42

I haven't but I was lucky enough to buy 6 x tubs (which I think will last me about 10 years!) in Tesco! £5.70 each! Keep searching!

Lotsandlotsofplants · 12/10/2024 20:02

@bennyonthedispatch I feel this is my only hope! Although pondering Astral and Cyclax…

LuffyWitten · 23/10/2024 12:22

Giving this a bump to ask if anyone has found a suitable Nivea Soft replacement. I hate the new formula, in particular finding it far more highly fragranced than the original. Gutted.

Lotsandlotsofplants · 23/10/2024 17:52

@LuffyWitten I’m still looking. Currently using Astral, which feels good going on and doesn’t dry out. However, it’s more oily so I have to apply it earlier if I want to put make up on top so that it has change to soak in. I couldn’t get on with Nivea blue . It’s soooo annoying. I’ve used and loved Nivea Soft for years. Angry

VanillaImpulse · 23/10/2024 22:21

I found loads of the old one in tubes in Savers. The obviously don't rotate the stock as the old ones were all at the back!

Lucky you! I’ve not managed to find any and I’m really not getting on with the new Nivea Soft. I’m slugging on Nivea blue at night now as a replacement but really need something soon for cold winter mornings. I find the Nivea blue too thick/filmy for day time..

I’ve bought a tester size of the Tatcha cream which I’ll try over the weekend, but I almost don’t want to like it as it’s so expensive!

@loropianalover 500g tubs in my local Waitrose yesterday. All smaller ones vegan.

echt · 17/12/2024 00:56

I'm in Australia and stockpiled the original Nivea Soft asap. The vegan stuff has arrived now. Bloody annoying.

Bambinee · 04/01/2025 17:41

What ingredients were not Vegan in the original formula? They might be Vegetarian still in which case they could have labeled that formula Vegetarian and the new one Vegan. It's great they are going Vegan, kind to animals. They need to check the Vegan formula that works, so the substitutes that suit are added. In this one they have added too much alcohol.

While what works for one person might not for another, it's cheap and does what it says on the tube or tin. I always bought the tubes because of contamination and the stuff going off. This thread has made me stock up from Amazon.
I've never bought expensive moisturiser or special stuff for eyes and Nivea Soft is a good all-rounder for me.

PumpkinSpicedTea · 16/01/2025 18:09

I've started using the new tub and I don't like it either. Doesn't feel as good on my skin.

Any good recommendations for an alternative?

PumpkinSpicedTea · 16/01/2025 18:11

On Amazon how do we know it's not the vegan one? The photo doesn't have the vegan label on it but I'm scared to buy 😂

halava · 16/01/2025 20:11

If anyone is heading to Spain, I got the original version in the Supercor supermarket (part of El Corte Ingles) over Christmas. I felt like all my birthdays had come together!

Might be worth a punt if anyone knows anyone heading that way. But maybe that was older stock I don't know.

I'm in Australia and bought 12 tubes of what was pictured as the original formula on Amazon. They sent the vegan one. I wrote back to return it and they said only the vegan one was available. I've returned them.

In short, you can't trust the images.
