Cheeeaaaap wedding dress help!

Please help me, I'm going dress blind. I'm on a serious budget - max £200, ideally less. Size 10, 5'9, 35 years old and not huge boobs (and what I have are going to need some help - thanks breastfeeding). I want something I can move around in without being too constricted or tripping over it. I really like this but it's sold out in my size. I like a floaty sleeve and don't like high necks. Any suggestions? Thank you!

If you're not in a rush....
Have a look on eBay. There are lots of companies in china that make it especially for you.
I found a design I liked, but sent them pics of different necklines etc.

It was beautiful!!!! It was extremely similar to a dress here that was over £2000, but cost me £150.
Good luck!

I would personally go for the secondhand option and get it altered if you have the time. Getting a cheap dress altered isn't always possible, my seamstress wouldn't touch them.

I have a wedding dress in raw silk, cream, I'm looking to sell. I was size 10 when I got married. I'm 5' 5 so I don't think you would trip over it. Happy to send pics if you're interested!

@WashableVelvet that second dress is a bargain - it would cost more than that just to buy the silk in the skirt.

When DD was little I bought a pure silk bridesmaids dress on ebay for 99p - she wore it and wore it.

This is gorgeous!

Not that I am planning to get married, but this would be the one if I were.

Lightinthebox do have some good ones but even if you pay for made to measure it may not be perfect (I have memories of a non wedding ballgown I bought years ago & was ‘made to measure’ but literally did not have enough fabric. Think they’d effectively assumed I had a lot of back fat rather than massive boobs 😂. They did give me £20 back to pay for local alterations but that wouldn’t be anywhere near the cost of bridal alterations).

I know people don’t like shein but returns are good.. mine was shein plus alterations done myself & I was super happy with it in the end. Cost was <£100 tho probably would have been more if I was paying someone for the alterations.

I got mine off Vinted -it was handmade for a photography exhibition but never used. £25, with alterations just over £100. Perfect.

A tailored fit is very important so you need to include that in the budget.

Vinted has all sorts, people change their minds etc as well.

That one from Coast is gorgeous. I would be very wary of buying from JJs House or Ever Pretty even though I see they have been recommended. I ended up in the most awful bridesmaids dress from Ever Pretty. it was so cheap and nasty and I had to go up 3 dress sizes to get it to fit. Same for one that we tried on from JJs house. I would say you are much better going for something from a reputable high street store like Coast or Monsoon. Not much difference in price but much better quality and better sizing too.

isthismylifenow · 25/07/2024 15:50

Is the Ever Pretty that is linked the same brand of Ever Pretty that is sold on Shein?

Ginandpanic · 25/07/2024 22:14

There is a brilliant pre loved wedding dress page on Facebook.

Find your nearest charity wedding dress shop. Oxfam have quite a few. Many are donated from the brands or are ex display etc. You can get brand new designer dresses very cheap.
You book at appointment like a proper wedding boutique.
