Cheeeaaaap wedding dress help!

Please help me, I'm going dress blind. I'm on a serious budget - max £200, ideally less. Size 10, 5'9, 35 years old and not huge boobs (and what I have are going to need some help - thanks breastfeeding). I want something I can move around in without being too constricted or tripping over it. I really like this but it's sold out in my size. I like a floaty sleeve and don't like high necks. Any suggestions? Thank you!

It’s nice! You could think about vintage in order to have more quality and something with more oomph for the same price.
I wanted a silk dress and found mine on eBay for £150 second hand instead of £1500.

this is floaty and very dramatic:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256458863460?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=EQ-YjPUITYW&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=jCT-mdonSkm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Or you could add floaty sleeves to something with a cleaner line - eg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264687333697?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=XlbHG8dkRMy&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=jCT-mdonSkm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Asos sell wedding dresses.

ItWasTheBestOfTimes · 25/07/2024 04:54

I’ve just bought a needle and thread dress for my wedding and I love it. It’s worth checking the needle and thread sale they have bridal dresses in your budget. Filter by colour to champagne and sort low to high. Reviews suggested to size up which I did and it fits perfectly.

I got mine from Simply Be. Not a wedding dress per se, ( blush pink with sequins) but it looked good and cost £80; there were lots of appropriate dresses on there.

peplepue · 25/07/2024 06:12

Try Dessy they do lots of bridesmaid dresses for around 200 and they come in white, ivory etc. I had a destination wedding dress from the range. £50 in a bridal sale it was lovely

Charity shop plus tailor to make alterations. There are some gorgeous frocks in charity shops.

Mumof1andacat · 25/07/2024 06:30

Oxfam Bridal shops. There is one in Southampton

BrotherUrgh · 25/07/2024 06:36

I got mine from Vivien of Holloway. They go by 50’s sizing though, so watch out for that.

Joanna Hope dresses.
These are reasonable!

Springadorable · 25/07/2024 06:44

I love this, thank you!

Also thanks for the tip of buying the sleeves separately, I had no idea you could do that so easily. Opens up options!

Firstly, have you tried any on in a shop? I would absolutely recommend going to Wed 2 be or silar, and have a good old session. You might be surprised what you shapes you discount/ discover you like, and whether to go for simple or patterned.

Secondly- please go really careful that whatever site you use is in the UK. I'm on a bridal Facebook group, and loads of people get stung by websites with beautiful dresses that look like they are UK, but they come and they're just slightly off size wise, or not as good quality, or just generally not right. Unfortunately when trying to return, these sites are found to be out in china, and basically refuse returns (even though the websites say they accept them). Two large ones I've heard bad reviews on are Hebeos and Stacees, I think light in the box too? Check trust pilot, etc, before you buy.

I bought mine from whistles, bit more expensive than your budget but they have a wedding sale on at the moment. I'm not a million miles off your size and the fabrics and cut are lovely!

@Justhereforthechristmasthreads thank you! The first one is particularly lovely.

I have been looking on vinted but I find it incredibly tricky to visualise what a dress on a hanger will look like on. I'm keen to avoid Shein but some of those styles are great.

Good idea on looking for white dresses under a different heading! Will have another trawl!

Thank you all. If you do see any more please send them my way!

When you see things on Vinted, try googling or doing a Google image search with the name of the brand. Often you'll find the original product listing with model images.

I second Coast. I got mine for a very reasonable price.

A friend ordered one from Light in Box and was happy with what they got.

EBay have a lot of sample dresses or shops selling off the dresses from their store that have been tried on (some have been dry cleaned too etc).

If you stick them on your watch list you'll usually get a lower offer price sent to you. Even the charity shops on eBay seem to send lower offers on their wedding dresses.

Beautiful3 · 25/07/2024 09:14

I went to a wedding shop closing down sale. I got an expensive dress for £200 ish. It was great and fitted me lovely. I didn't even need it adjusting due to the corset style back.

ViciousCurrentBun · 25/07/2024 09:18

I think the dress you like is lovely, the Coast dresses would be a good option as they are decent quality. Lot of charity shops have specialist wedding dress shops. I know that they also have brand new dresses sometimes as well as secondhand.
