Is there such a thing as a comfortable bra?

If so, please tell me about it! I am so fed up with trying out new styles that feel comfortable enough when I try them on… but which I’m ready to rip off by lunch time. Underwired bras I find hellish, non-wired styles end up riding up so that the band digs in - and the support isn’t great.

I’ve been for a fitting and was recommended a style that felt too tight in the end. I never used to find bras so unbearable, I’m so conscious of them now! Perhaps it’s a menopausal thing.

I’m size 34D. Please share your best bra tips!

Miss Mary Smoothly. Not going to make anyone's heart race but they're really comfy and give you a natural shape.

GreatSave · 22/07/2024 07:54

A well fitted bra does feel tight when it’s new as the elastic gives the more you wear it. You may be more sensitive to that feeling than other women.
Can I ask where you got bra fitted?

Wendycoping · 22/07/2024 07:55

I like the M and S flexifit non underwire
I'm a 36F and find it comfy

tunainatin · 22/07/2024 07:55

You have my complete sympathy. I am exactly the same size and the only bras I can wear are the pull on stretchy ones. They need to have wide straps. I find Sainsbury's and m&s ones good. They provide enough support for me. I'll find a link in case you don't know what I mean.

fruitbrewhaha · 22/07/2024 07:56

I wonder if you got fitted properly?

swapcicles · 22/07/2024 07:56

I find the ones that 'fit' properly are the most tight, yes they give great shape but I can't stand the tightness.
This is boob or bust/bravissimo measuring which a lot of the people who preach about them think that is the holy grail, it's not and everyone is different.
Personally I go for a bra that is a bit looser with padding to hold them in place, currently wearing a Matalan high apex bra, it fits better under a closely fitted top but holds them in the right place and I can wear it most of the day.
Actually that's a slight lie, I'm working from home today and am not wearing one at all 😂

I like crop top types If tight they do support but can be a bit hot in summer. Sainsbury's do the best ones I've tried.

I find bras worse to wear in summer tho as I get sweaty and then they rub. Roll
On winter

tunainatin · 22/07/2024 07:59

These are an example, though i prefer ones that aren't so low cut. The thicker the band at the bottom, the more supportive it is, and some of them have removable cups which I find help with support and giving a nice shape.

I agree.

I know I’m a 32H. But I can’t wear that size as it’s like being tortured. To be fair I have autism and sensory issues so probably more sensitive to it than most people but there’s no way I’d ever wear something tight, even though without doubt they give a good shape and lift. I wear crop top type bras - current favourite ones are from Sainsburys for £10, I wear a 34GG and that’s about as bra ish as I can manage.

I like this one too for every day wear. I'm 32F.

florriegirl · 22/07/2024 08:15

Boody bras are so comfy, they are all I wear now. The fuller bust wire free ones are fabulous, they give a good shape and support and I can wear them all day. It's taken me years to find such comfort! They are made from bamboo so breathable and not sweaty.

I got fitted in Bravissimo. She took me down from a 34D to a 32DD. Admittedly the bra did look good but I couldn’t tolerate the feeling of tightness, even after a week.
Once I’ve clocked that sensation, I can’t shake it!

I will admit I have a smaller chest so it might not work for you but I really rate the primark racer back sports bras. I've lived in them since the pandemic. They're quite cheap so maybe no harm in trying them.

Is there such a thing as a comfortable bra?
GreatSave · 22/07/2024 08:30

People have different levels of sensitivity. You’ve probably been fitted correctly but it’s just not working for you personally.
Most of the support comes from the band hence the tightness and the larger cup we are , try more support we need.

GradGirl · 22/07/2024 08:34

I had a fitting last week, up three cup sizes and down a band size. The band is tight. The person fitting it said it would give and it may well do. In the meantime I’m fastening it on the third hook set rather than the first (which the person fitting it used).

It is so much better on the third for now and the cup size is great.

Is that an option for you? The hook position.

I don’t think it matters where you had it fitted to be honest, there’s good and bad fitters everywhere.

zaxxon · 22/07/2024 08:35

IMO no, there is no such thing. They are the devil's own underclothing, and I fervently hope that women of the future will invent something better, and their archaeologists will dig up our scratchy pinchy underwires and wonder why we ever put ourselves through such agony.

100% this. The same way we look at corsets now and think 😱😱😱

Netcam · 22/07/2024 08:40

I'm 32/34 C/D and love Smartwool bras. Even though I'm petite, the size large fits me well, is soft unlike most sports bras, but still supportive. I'm also post menopause and hate underwires or stiff bras. The styles I have are slightly different as I've had them a while, but look pretty much like this: www.smartwool.co.uk/uk/women-s-intraknittm-strappy-bra-sw002652m771.html

Doggymummar · 22/07/2024 08:42

I am 34 HH and wear sugar candy. Very comfortable 😁

midgetastic · 22/07/2024 08:46

Molke

Very comfortable
Good shape
Last well
Machine wash
More like a supportive vest than traditional bra
Much better fabrics and fun patterns

I only tried the traditional style which takes some working out to decide if you step in or pull ver head

BigGrubbyFlowerPot · 22/07/2024 08:48

I can't stand when my breasts touch each other at the cleavage so have to wear underwires to keep them apart from each other. I found ONE comfy bra in 40 years of bra wearing. It was in an M&S outlet shop (Swindon, I think) but have never found the like again! Sorry, not helpfully moaning!

Graceandflavours · 22/07/2024 08:52

I can’t keep a bra on for more than a couple of hours as I broke a rib a couple of years ago and my back becomes so sore. The bras I can tolerate for a while are Calvin Klein soft bras
