Is there such a thing as a comfortable bra?

If so, please tell me about it! I am so fed up with trying out new styles that feel comfortable enough when I try them on… but which I’m ready to rip off by lunch time. Underwired bras I find hellish, non-wired styles end up riding up so that the band digs in - and the support isn’t great.

I’ve been for a fitting and was recommended a style that felt too tight in the end. I never used to find bras so unbearable, I’m so conscious of them now! Perhaps it’s a menopausal thing.

I’m size 34D. Please share your best bra tips!

I can't stand when my breasts touch each other at the cleavage so have to wear underwires to keep them apart from each other. I found ONE comfy bra in 40 years of bra wearing. It was in an M&S outlet shop (Swindon, I think) but have never found the like again! Sorry, not helpfully moaning!

I can’t stand this either! I wonder, is it possible to keep your breasts apart without an underwire style? This is my mission… plus comfort of course!
I live quite near Swindon but I guess I’m not going to track down your favourite 😅

Molke

Very comfortable
Good shape
Last well
Machine wash
More like a supportive vest than traditional bra
Much better fabrics and fun patterns

I only tried the traditional style which takes some working out to decide if you step in or pull ver head

They look so unbelievably ugly on the website! They'd have to be unbelievably comfy to get me in one.

midgetastic · 22/07/2024 10:22

They do plain ones if you don't like patterns

Comfort is fantastic - this may be why I don't find them ugly at all as I associate them with feel good

yellowduckling1 · 22/07/2024 10:26

These are my current fave

Flexifit™ Invisible Wired Full-cup Bra A-E from M&S

It is wired. But I couldn't stand the non wired riding up and no support, these are v comfy and don't get the mid day rage that others give me.

Coughsweet · 22/07/2024 10:26

I changed from underwire to these uk.triumph.com/bras/padded/flex-smart/10213788.html?color=3091_Pigeon%20Grey

Coughsweet · 22/07/2024 10:29

Triumph made the underwire bra that fitted me best after years of nothing fitting properly then I discovered their non-wired range and the ones I‘ve tried have fitted well too

Julesni77 · 22/07/2024 10:30

I am with midgetastic in recommending Molke - only thing is they do show under a lot of summer clothes - I even wore mine for a light jog this morning and it was grand!

Cantonet · 22/07/2024 10:34

Boody for me too. I wear the padded shaper ones. So breathable & soft. I used to wear the Zero feel Sloggi but they were too hot & sweaty in summer weather. I find M&S bras dreadful. They manage to make me look enormous, as they're nearly all moulded cups.

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 22/07/2024 10:52

Snag bras ( people only know the tights). Honestly.. they tell you how to measure.. they are so soft and comfortable..they hold you up.. I'm a big boobed lady and these are perfect.

I'm 32/34 C/D and love Smartwool bras. Even though I'm petite, the size large fits me well, is soft unlike most sports bras, but still supportive. I'm also post menopause and hate underwires or stiff bras. The styles I have are slightly different as I've had them a while, but look pretty much like this: www.smartwool.co.uk/uk/women-s-intraknittm-strappy-bra-sw002652m771.html

Thanks for link, I'm wondering how easy are they to get overhead? Because I've got a shoulder injury which will be a long time til healed. I dont want to spend a load and not be able to wear it. Also how tight is the band when it's on, will it just gape?

Netcam · 22/07/2024 12:41

@Bodeganights. I am now 8 stone having lost weight recently, but was 9 stone for a long time. The large fitted before and still fits, it's really stretchy and flexible and easy to put on. Despite the fact the lots of my clothes being too big now I've lost weight, these bras remarkably still fit, it doesn't gape, but it also wasn't too tight when my body was bigger. I have some of their other racetrack style too, which I also really like. I searched for ages for a good bra for my body shape and these have been my best find.

I got fitted in Bravissimo. She took me down from a 34D to a 32DD. Admittedly the bra did look good but I couldn’t tolerate the feeling of tightness, even after a week.
Once I’ve clocked that sensation, I can’t shake it!

I get fitted here being a 34FF, and honestly whenever I go for a refit tbh they always feel “tight” until I’ve worn them in a bit and they give. Super annoying but I usually just loosen the straps initially, I always tend to go for a t shirt bra instead of a balcony etc as I find they dig far too much for my liking. When they drop and fit less stiffly though I do find they’re the best size wise for the support. As far as no underwire I like the lounge underwear ones as they use actual bra and band sizing compared to S/M/L and are actually very pretty

Georgyporky · 22/07/2024 13:03

M&S Flexifit underwired is my most comfortable bra ever.
But do get a bra fitting at M&S first.

MrsPositive36 · 22/07/2024 13:08

Wendycoping · 22/07/2024 07:55

I like the M and S flexifit non underwire
I'm a 36F and find it comfy

I am also a 36F and I find Pour Moi to be very reliable and gives me the support I need all day!

Look at Royce Lingerie, started wearing them post breast reduction (I am now also a 32DD) & haven’t stopped. This one is one of my favourites - it’s very comfy (it’s not wired but does have proper cups). www.royce-lingerie.co.uk/comfort-bras/maisie-rouge

This looks good. 2 your boobs stay apart?

OneNewUser · 22/07/2024 15:49

The middle of the cup doesn’t sit against the sternum like it would in a perfectly fitting wired bra, but yes they stay apart way better than in most unwired bras.

blobby10 · 22/07/2024 16:03

I'm a 38D (allegedly) and have been for 30 years - despite being 2 stones heavier and with an advanced middle aged spread! Haven't been properly fitted for about 8 years but did ask why underwired bras were invented and important -" to give us a nice shape", said the lovely lady. However now i've decided I don't want a 'nice shape'! I want a non wired bra that will stop my boobs moving around under my t shirts - a sports bra does the job but the straps are too thick for everyday wear. M&S T shirt bras just make the boobs flop.

spikeandbuffy · 22/07/2024 16:16

Elomi are my fave, the Matilda bra especially
I can sleep in them and comfortable

ForestElfGirl · 22/07/2024 16:24

Most bras are awful. And most bra fitters will say ‘oh you haven’t had the right size’ etc etc. but I’ve tried so many different bras from so many different shops and 95% are deathly uncomfortable. Why are women subjected to this?

Some good ones: lululemon cloud bra, the boody bras (though if you have a long back like me make sure you get adjustable straps!) and the Calvin klein soft bras. Crop top styles tend to be better. Underwire is dancing with the devil. Good luck out there!

Curlewwoohoo · 22/07/2024 16:36

I also wear crop top style these days. But I could do with finding something that does up at the back, they're a bugger to get on after swimming! I might try one of the triumph ones linked above...

StarOfTheNorth · 22/07/2024 16:49

Many thanks for the suggestions everyone, definitely going to check them all out!

Today’s bra came off a couple of hours ago, but luckily wfh today… ☺️

I like Uniqlo bra-top vests. The shape isn't brilliant as it doesn't push me up much, but they are very comfortable. I like the cotton rib ones, not so keen on the Airism material.

Also like Miss Mary of Sweden organic cotton t-shirt bra, it's very soft and doesn't move about much. www.missmary.com/ie/organic-cotton-underwired-t-shirt-bra

Came to say Snag. Absolutely superb!

Dancingqueen18 · 22/07/2024 18:12

I feel your pain. I hate bras & unless going out I often wear a tight stretchy camisole instead. I'm a 38D & believe it or not I get away with no bra, if only the nipples would settle down. If anyone can suggest a sheer non wired lycra bra please do. I wear a sheer non wired DKNY one in largest size but could do with a bit bigger. I think this would suit you too OP so I'm not really hijacking your thread just looking for a comfortable bra with no wires, lining, or padding.
