Is there such a thing as a comfortable bra?

If so, please tell me about it! I am so fed up with trying out new styles that feel comfortable enough when I try them on… but which I’m ready to rip off by lunch time. Underwired bras I find hellish, non-wired styles end up riding up so that the band digs in - and the support isn’t great.

I’ve been for a fitting and was recommended a style that felt too tight in the end. I never used to find bras so unbearable, I’m so conscious of them now! Perhaps it’s a menopausal thing.

I’m size 34D. Please share your best bra tips!

Boody for sure

Another vote for Molke, I absolutely hate normal bras but Molke I'm happy in all day

I also wear crop top style these days. But I could do with finding something that does up at the back, they're a bugger to get on after swimming! I might try one of the triumph ones linked above...

I just step into mine - easier than overhead!

ZaZathecat · 22/07/2024 23:10

I measure 32D but wear a 34C as it's so much more comfortable. As neither is a very big cup size anyway I don't have any problem with 'not enough support'

SwordToFlamethrower · 22/07/2024 23:11

NO.

Chichestermoo · 22/07/2024 23:15

Miss Mary of Sweden

Very comfy with wide straps

I wonder if you got fitted properly?

That’s my first thought too.

urbanbuddha · 22/07/2024 23:23

@FinallyHere

And having the straps set properly.

What does this mean?

FinallyHere · 22/07/2024 23:28

The straps that go over the shoulders can be adjustable and here can be more than one setting for the round the torso fastening.

It makes an astonishing difference to have someone who knows what they are doing make those adjustments and explain how to or rather when to use the different hook and eye settings.

Really it can be the difference between a bra that appears to not fit and one that fits like a glove and is very comfortable.

A bra really is supposed to be comfortable. A well fitting properly adjusted bra will be comfortable.

heidi345 · 22/07/2024 23:38

For a while i wore the m & s flexifit bras as I thought they were the most comfortabe. But I found myself unhooking or abandoning my bra in the evenings. I then went and had a proper fitting and bought the Fantasy Rebecca bra. It is wonderful. I no longer feel that I have a bra on and I don’t unhook or take it off in the evening.

urbanbuddha · 22/07/2024 23:40

@FinallyHere

Thanks for the detail.
A question, do you know if my bra strap is riding up my back should I loosen or tighten the hook and eye fastening?

OooPourUsACupLove · 22/07/2024 23:41

Primadonna Deauville for me (34F). It's the difference between pulling the bra off as soon as I get home from work and happily wearing it until bedtime. Pricy though so I buy them reduced.

I was fitted property years ago at Rigby and Pellar and this was the bra they recommended. Apparently with a proper fitting they don't just go by your bra size but also know which manufacturer's cut will suit your shape. I take a different size now but this style is so much more comfortable and flattering than any other on me.

FinallyHere · 22/07/2024 23:42

I really don't know I'm afraid. But I know some people who could help 😉. They all work in specialist shops.

Hope you get to find out.

Tighten, or go down a back size and up a cup size or two.

urbanbuddha · 22/07/2024 23:44

@MaidOfAle

Thank you. It’s kind of counter-intuitive, isn’t it.

FinallyHere · 22/07/2024 23:45

Absolutely. And even different models within manufacturers portfolio. Last time I lost a lot of weight, and my bra suddenly seemed to swamp me, the same size and manufacturer but a different model PrimaDonna Deauville -> Madison was the perfect solution.

squirrelslikenuts · 23/07/2024 02:43

I like Freya and Triumph the best. But, agree menopausal has filled out my breaststroke so much, the cup size has changed 3 times. I know different brands are rarely the same fit.
As for M&S can't stand them anymore, too stiff. OK, at fitting, then on wearing find uncomfortable.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/07/2024 03:34

Freya Deco for me. So comfortable.

merrymelodies · 23/07/2024 03:41

This is the only brand I feel absolutely comfortable in. www.wacoallingerie.com/uk/en/uk-outlet/c/uk-outlet

ThatBusyPanda · 23/07/2024 06:40

M&S flexifit non wired full cup - bought when pregnant and absolute game changer!!

BeaRF75 · 23/07/2024 06:45

I don't think I've ever had an uncomfortable bra. Why are so many people struggling to find them comfortable? Personally, I think underwiring works well and I just stick to boring old M&S!

RampantIvy · 23/07/2024 07:21

I'm also a fan of Wacoal @merrymelodies. The independent shop near me stocks this brand.
Although I'm fine with M and S as well.

I don't find bras uncomfortable either @BeaRF75 but I am a meagre 32D and don't have a problem finding bras in my size.

We are all different.

RolyPolyJamSandwich · 23/07/2024 10:28

There is a specific Jockey brand bra (no underwire, super comfy) bra I buy when I go to India. Its not a sexy pretty bra, its functional and comfortable

twomanyfrogsinabox · 23/07/2024 10:33

I can't stand underwires, I don't have trouble with them riding up, I guess the band size is important for that, and not having the straps too short.

M&S flexifit non wired full cup - bought when pregnant and absolute game changer!!

This although not bought during pregnancy although my daughter (also large of boob) has told me of some great new M and S one she's discovered that has wires but is mega comfortable. I don't know the name of it unfortunately.

I have been measured and fitted (including online) 3 times - each time came out a different size and when I bought the bras, none of them were particularly comfortable.
