Do you tuck?

I've never tucked my tops in. You generally didn't when I was youngster and then after kids I was fat and thought it better not to. I've lost loads of weight and am now slim. Should I tuck? I feel weird and self conscious but maybe I'll get used to it and probably looks better?

Never tuck in, it feels restrictive.

Only my skirt in my knickers when riding a bike 😀.

Oneearringlost · 18/07/2024 10:28

I do what I think is called 'the French Tuck'?
ie, just a bit at the front.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 18/07/2024 10:28

Misread the title! 😚

FastFood · 18/07/2024 10:29

I identify as a tucker.

canyon2000 · 18/07/2024 10:29

I pretty much always tuck in. Either a front tuck or a full tuck. I feel there is too much fabric flapping around otherwise!!

Muffin101 · 18/07/2024 10:31

I’m a tucker, for sure. Either a French tuck or a full tuck. I’m an hourglass shape with pretty big boobs and I just think it makes me look a million times better, more shapely rather than shapeless 😂

urbanbuddha · 18/07/2024 10:32

Sometimes in sometimes out. Totally depends on the outfit.

StormingNorman · 18/07/2024 10:33

Tuck either front in/back out or one side in/one side out.

For a moment I thought we were on the Dragnet board 😂

protectoroftherealm · 18/07/2024 10:39

I tuck in 98% of my tops! But then I only really wear Fred Perry polo shirts, in slim fittings and they need to be tucked in got my 'look'!

MotherWol · 18/07/2024 10:42

Yes; I didn't use to but unless I'm going for a very casual vibe I find untucked makes me look more scruffy. I'm quite petite so oversized/baggy/untucked seems to translate to scruffy on me.

StarlightLady · 18/07/2024 11:17

Don’t tuckers get a bulge where the top tucks in your skirt/trousers?

AhBiscuits · 18/07/2024 11:54

But I guess non-tuckers get a bulge in their top from the waist of their trousers / skirt?

I still don't actually know.
Maybe I'm just not that keen on the waist of these shorts. They're paperbag style and too big.

Fench tuck all the way. I haven't full tucked since I had kids and lost my flat stomach but I need a little structure. I also use elastic bands to style the waist bands of tops after spending too much time on insta.

BigDahliaFan · 18/07/2024 11:58

I never tuck, my proportions look all wrong. I've got a waist and look fine in dresses with a waist. But with trousers I've got a long body and short legs so I can never make it look right.

urbanbuddha · 18/07/2024 12:00

Out looks better to me there.

Try pulling it out a bit so it sort of puffs out over the waistband.

Lolatusernamesuggestions · 18/07/2024 12:28

I'm a tucking genius.
I tuck everything. I think it looks better, so yes I suppose I'm shallow. It's linked to the third to two third rule. I don't know the proper term but I know I look better when the top is tucked.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 18/07/2024 12:30

It’s the shorts- they look too big.

CactusMactus · 18/07/2024 12:32

It really depends on what you are wearing.
casual linen shirt with shorts - tuck one half of the front in... leaving the buttons below tuck undone.
Tight top and jeans, like a Breton, tuck fully.
cami vest top and smart trousers - tuck fully.
baggy t-shirt and shorts / casual trousers / combats - don't tuck.
don't tuck a silk blouse - it will just crease.
You can always not tuck and get a belt if you are wearing a top and skirt and wish to show off a waist line.
Anything A-lined needs a tight waist. Otherwise you look shapeless.
never tuck anything into sports wear or leggings.

janeclipse · 18/07/2024 12:47

I did a French tuck yesterday. It depends on the outfit.

From your photos I think it might be the top not matching the shorts, or the waistband. I can't decide which is worse.

LoobyDoop2 · 18/07/2024 12:56

I tuck since changing to straight/wide legged jeans and trousers rather than skinny. Otherwise the proportions are wrong.
It doesn’t look right with the shorts in your photo, OP, because they’re too big.

AhBiscuits · 18/07/2024 13:05

Thanks for your thoughts everyone.
I know I need new clothes. I have bought quite a lot but no shorts yet and they're all too big 🙄
