Do you tuck?

I've never tucked my tops in. You generally didn't when I was youngster and then after kids I was fat and thought it better not to. I've lost loads of weight and am now slim. Should I tuck? I feel weird and self conscious but maybe I'll get used to it and probably looks better?

The problem there is the shorts are too big, so the waistband sags down. Can you try using a couple of safety pins on the inside of the waistband to take it in a bit; the front of the waistband should sit about an inch up from where it currently is.

TheOGCCL · 18/07/2024 13:42

I think tucking tends to give a bit more shape, otherwise tops can just hang off the bust. It can look a bit droopy and unfinished. Tucking makes your legs look longer too.

A good compromise are shorter tops that meet the waistband or just below.

Poggishairtufts · 18/07/2024 13:46

It can look a lot neater

It’s the shorts- they look too big.

Or are they hoiked up at the sides? If the waistband could be levelled not to sag in front I think tucked in would look better, but a looser top and pulled out a bit.

XiCi · 18/07/2024 13:47

The shorts look at least 2 sizes too big!!

happytobemrsg · 18/07/2024 13:51

I either French tuck or wear a boxy/slightly cropped top with high waisted bottoms. Always high waisted!

ErrolTheDragon · 18/07/2024 14:19

Mostly I don't tuck, but having (somewhat to my surprise) lost my 'muffin top', I did tuck a close-fitting top into my jeans a couple of days ago and thought it looked ok. A baggier top tucked into them wouldn't have worked.

Tillygan60 · 18/07/2024 14:26

I think that anything "paperbag" style looks odd with a French tuck...better with a short, boxy style tee or top that just sits above the shorts.
Was in mstalan earlier today, most of their shorts are now in the sale so maybe time to shop!!

ThePoshUns · 18/07/2024 14:28

I'm a tucker

MonaChopsis · 18/07/2024 14:33

I'm a mother tucker... the mothertuckiest mothertucker in fact.

OP your shorts are too big, but you still look better tucked.

How are people managing to look good tucked in 😭

I find I just look like I've pulled my pants up in a rush with a French tuck or one side out. It looks ridiculous on me!

DramaAlpaca · 18/07/2024 15:10

I always look untidy if I tuck, like I haven't bothered to dress myself properly.

I probably haven't quite managed the technique, because it looks good on others. So I don't bother.

Totally agree, just looks daft on me too.

With my usual straight leg jeans, I don't tuck. I'm flat chested so I don't have the tent hanging from boobs issue. I'm tucked today because I'm wearing looser shorts and it looks better. Always a full tuck though.

JaneJeffer · 18/07/2024 15:15

That half tuck thing looks daft

serialcatbuyer · 18/07/2024 15:18

With those trousers I think it looks really nice if you wear a baggier top, tuck it in then pull it out a little so it kind of bags over and hangs nice

Oneearringlost · 18/07/2024 10:28

I do what I think is called 'the French Tuck'?
ie, just a bit at the front.

I do this but it's recent. I never used to but it does help define my rather mum-like waist.

CurbsideProphet · 18/07/2024 17:21

I think of it as the Steph Scully Tuck after a character in Neighbours back in the mid 00s who always had a shirt part tucked in.

Polkadottydot · 18/07/2024 22:31

I never tuck. It just doesn't look right on me

rainbowsparkle28 · 18/07/2024 22:56

I generally do for pretty much everything but am short so is also partly tuck or fabric down to my knees (not quite but you get the gist...) 😂

mondaytosunday · 18/07/2024 22:58

I did today as I was going to a funeral and it looks smarter. Normally no.

HesGotHisTrombolyse · 20/07/2024 09:45

Do you French tuck even if you have a bit of a belly? Doesn't tucking make it look worse?

piloqeula · 20/07/2024 09:52

I believe technically speaking the tuck is out of fashion again (from the jibes at millennials tucking I have seen on social media, along with trainer socks ha!), but as a big boobed small waisted woman I will pay the price of looking outdated as preferable to looking bigger than I am!

fernsandlilies · 20/07/2024 09:54

If you half tuck what do you do with the sides? I always have a silly bit poking out.

Chewbecca · 20/07/2024 09:58

I tuck, usually front only. It's a recent thing for me but definitely looks better IMO. I have a belly / am on the large side but it is definitely more flattering and less 'threw on clothes' looking. The plus size Instagrammers (Laura Adlington for e.g.) are always tucked and gave me the confidence to try.

Your outfit doesn't need tucking but that's because of the unusual proportions! Well done on that weight loss!
