Skirt is LK Bennett and it has hung in my wardrobe for some inexplicable reason. It is wool and silk, full skirt with pockets, fairly vibrant fuchsia.

Have a 'do' in a fairly upmarket pub this weekend. What should I wear with skirt Something not too fussy and simple I think. I brought the silk top from Jigsaw ( bargain with extra 15%off)

It is good silk but is the black a bit harsh with the skirt? I don't really suit black either... any ideas/ opinions welcome...
Otherwise I have a forest green long tulle net skirt ( not worn either! )
Excuse poor photos!

That's gorgeous OP! I would want to wear it with white I think (but I also can't be trusted with anything plain white).

CharlotteRumpling · 08/07/2024 19:53

Beautiful skirt. Gray or navy top?

Black top looks nice with pink skirt.

White top only

LibertyDuck · 08/07/2024 19:55

Your thread title is hilarious. Why does it matter where the dinner is? Or does one want to boast that one doesn't just dine anywhere, darling?!

soupfiend · 08/07/2024 19:56

I dont like the top with it, the shape of the top is gorgeous, I think it needs white or perhaps navy

Same shape top, different colour

CharlotteRumpling · 08/07/2024 19:58

Wow S and B has got nasty these days. OP is establishing context.

CatrionaBalfour · 08/07/2024 19:58

The skirt is beautiful! What a gorgeous colour! Not a black or white top (bit dull...). How about a mint green or aqua silk shell top, tucked in?

evtheria · 08/07/2024 19:59

Safe choice: Medium grey or charcoal grey top (thin knit, or a silk tee)

Bold choice: tangerine orange top, go all out with summery shades

Yes who ever heard of dressing for the venue...

Chypre · 08/07/2024 19:59

White top or white button-down shirt! Collar undone, sleeves rolled. With kitten heel, chefs kiss!

CharlotteRumpling · 08/07/2024 20:00

Actually an orange top would go very well.

Mosaic123 · 08/07/2024 20:03

Pale pink top with v neck and three quarter length sleeves. Pale pink is in the skirt I think?

WTF?!

presumably because if OP had said “London” (which in itself would be a different vibe to Liverpool or Exeter), posters would have quite reasonably asked Chelsea or Hoxton because the answer would elicit quite different responses

DancingNotDrowning · 08/07/2024 20:04

Love a gorgeous skirt with a white shirt

I think pale pink would look lovely.

CordeliaGrey · 08/07/2024 20:15

Ah thanks all. Yes i agree that the black top is a bit dull- I think fitted white top or be bold and go with orange... as @evtheria suggests. I love the idea of that colour combo.

Ok anyone seen any suitable orange tops??

@LibertyDuck... your comment made me laugh. Smile i don't get out much!

With a plain fairly short t shirt and a leather jacket?

deeahgwitch · 08/07/2024 21:22

Have a look at Lilysilk.com.
They do beautiful silk blouses.

Sandwichgen · 08/07/2024 21:30

White top. Or fuchsia vest top to exactly match if you can find o e in time

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 08/07/2024 22:03

I think tucked in shirts look terrible with skirts. Makes you look like waiting staff (nothing wrong with being waiting staff obviously, if that's your job)

I would wear a short, boxy shirt/ blouse/ top/ cardigan in linen, cashmere , fine wool or silk that comes just below the waist band and worn loose over it. White, navy or grey. Preferably 3/4 sleeve or bracelet length.

Any of the cropped or vintage collar cardigans.

Brora Cashmere

Also green

Ineffable23 · 09/07/2024 06:37

Orange sounds amazing 😍 I don't have any suggestions for the top but it would be gorgeous.

MoveMoveMove · 09/07/2024 07:13

I think the top looks awful with the skirt sorry, the arms and under bust area are too baggy.
I think a delicate knit, cashmere cardigan with a V neck and slim fit would look much nicer.
