Politics aside, but is this hideous and not best for her frame, or is it me?^^

I really like a lot of what she wears - e.g polling day, when she met Jill Biden - but this particular dress just no..

I think it swamped her

because this forum is called style&beauty not personality&life contributions

Well I actually only saw this thread because it was in the active feed.
Normally I wouldn't bother with this forum because obsession with looks really annoys me.
So in a way you are right. I shouldn't be surprised posters on this forum focus on women's looks rather than more worth while qualities.
I still have a right to voice my disquiet about this focus and criticism on what she is wearing though.

Sandwichgen · 07/07/2024 11:13

I thought it was amazing in motion - lots of swish and a swirl of colours

VotesForWomen · 07/07/2024 11:13

I think the dress, the expression, the posture and the umbrella in that image make her look like a Victorian child's doll.

It's not only women who get criticised for what they wear around politics, Corbyn attracted massive criticism for wearing a pragmatic raincoat on a wet day to remembrance sunday. I guess most men in politics wear suits that aren't comment-worthy, whereas women don't tend to, or can't for every occasion.

MrsMitford3 · 07/07/2024 11:14

I think she looks stunning.

Very fashionable-love the block heel shoes.

I think it is tradition that she stands where she is.

I think Angela Rayner looked frumpy-nothing about the shape or fit suited her at all. The Me+Em Pr team probably 😭over her choice.

But I think Victoria Starmer-also in Me+Em looked fantastic.

JLou08 · 07/07/2024 11:14

I like it, it looks really stylish.

YABVU

I think she looks absolutely lovely.

The red white and blue is also very patriotic and the dress to me is a mix of both cultures.

I bet you couldn't carry it off.

Sorry, but I don't think she DID carry it off.
Dress needs a taller willowy lady

It’s not my taste but I think it was a great choice for the occasion - an Indian label and a wonderful nod to the Union Jack.

Anyone who snipes about her family’s money needs their head examined. They are 100% self made and didn’t become wealthy until Akshata was a teenager. She was sent away to live with her grandmother so her parents could build the business. The story of Akshata’s mother’s business success in the incredibly patriarchal and class ridden society that is India is extraordinary.

And the philanthropy that they are engaged in
Her mother doesn't buy any clothes as she wears saris and says that she has enough to last her for life

They are not people who have pulled the ladder up (as was said in a previous post)

So "yes, sir" is a nice tone, is it? No.
I would say it's far more rude and personal.
I'm not personal.

Edited

Ironic.

User884721 · 07/07/2024 11:17

I didn't like it at all when she was standing beside Rishi when he was speaking. But when they were walking away and there was some movement about it it was lovely.
I think that moment of standing there must have been really awkward for her. She looked awkward. As would I if I ever found myself in such a situation.

I hope she's lounging around in her pyjamas this weekend.

CocoapuffPuff · 07/07/2024 11:18

I don't hate it, but I wouldn't have thought anything of it tbh, had it not been for this thread. Its her dress, she likes it. What else is there to say?

CelesteCunningham · 07/07/2024 11:19

given she is thin and has alllll the money I don’t understand it.

Most of us consciously or unconsciously dress to make ourselves look thinner and/or wealthier. When both of those traits are beyond question it must be freeing. She can wear whatever she likes and be bold about it.

Isn't it? I'm commenting on style and people get rude and personal. I have no idea why.
Each to their own! On with the style.

DurhamDurham · 07/07/2024 11:20

My first thought was that it would look much better if she had a bit of a bust

Jesus, are we criticising someone for not having big enough boobs now?

TinySmol · 07/07/2024 11:20

She looks like a hazard sign at the side of a motorway.

Firebaby · 07/07/2024 11:20

sunshinegrey · 07/07/2024 10:07

I think the patterns are too overwhelming for her frame and she could have chosen something with the same colours but more delicate stripes or maybe solid

And white shoes?

Shut up about what I’m wearing. This is not about me (or even about her as such) but about the dress

And I’m wearing old pijamas right now but I’m not the richest person in the world standing for pictures, am I?

Because she likes it. Like you choose what you wear. It's not a difficult concept

SnowFrogJelly · 07/07/2024 11:21

Looks like a deck chair

Notgivingup54 · 07/07/2024 10:06

If only women could get past criticising each other.

This! Such a nastily toned post.

And FYI, I really like it! I’m petite and I’d wear this!

Summerinspringtime · 07/07/2024 11:22

I think it was a good choice. Clothing isn’t just about only ever wearing the exact colours which suit you every single time. Or the exact style which suits you every single time.
A nod to the Union Jack and an individual designer, good all round in my book.

As someone who's about her size, I think it would have been much more flattering if the hem had been right after the red bit. I think the high neck combined with the width and length of the skirt overwhelmed her, and having another blue bit made it visually too busy for someone her size.

Entirely self fulfilled @Corinthiana

I think she looks great. Tough moment for her with the whole world watching.

ManchesterLu · 07/07/2024 11:25

It's not the kind of thing I'd wear, but the fact you've posted a photo of a woman just to slag her off is a bit odd.

Outliers · 07/07/2024 11:26

Probably trying to dress humbly to appeal to the masses.

Ugly dress tbf

Bestyearever2024 · 07/07/2024 11:27

I think she looks absolutely awful

But I'm perhaps old fashioned?

Lemonyyy · 07/07/2024 11:27

These clothes were all chosen for a reason - I know there is a lot more commentary on women’s clothes in politics but that is because it is easier to make a statement in a dress than a suit!

I liked it (although preferred her polling day dress) and I thought it was very appropriate - Indian designer, Union Jack colours. I wouldn’t personally wear it because of the very high neckline but I loved that she went bold. Victoria Starmer played it a lot safer but also looked lovely.

I have to agree with other posters that Angela Rayner’s green suit looked awful, it cut in in all the wrong places and made her look very wide, and also somehow looked really crumpled and cheap. I say that as someone who loves her generally but this was a miss!
