How are they multi-millionaires? Genuine question as Keir Starmer’s previous career was public sector. I know he was very senior but even ad DPP probably around a £200k salary? As an occupational therapist she’d be on around £50k. So not a great household income living in London. How / where did they make millions?

Oh crikey! Victoria is not an occupational therapist. Why do people persist in saying this?!

She works as a lawyer in NHS occupational health department.

A very different role indeed!

That makes more sense - I read it somewhere and thought it was odd that she’d retrained as an OT! Still, she won’t be wealthy from being an NHS lawyer, she’ll be on a modest income taking account of the CoL in London. Two public sector professional jobs does not lead to wealth.

The red dress really suited VS, really nice. Akshata is such a stylish woman normally, good figure as well, I don't know what she was thinking shrouding herself in that ugly dress, it gave Victorian maid vibes.

I thought the red dress was lovely.

I thought AM just needed the right hat and she'd look like a suffragette.

goldenrachita · 06/07/2024 12:43

Haven't read all the messages but I thought it was a lovely and flattering dress on a very attractive woman. She's my age, so what she's wearing interested me. It wasn't an incredible dress but I was more drawn to how pretty she is. I respect them for keeping their children out of the public eye.

Akshata's dress was more interesting and it suited her. I also respect the Sunaks for allowing their girls a private life.

Is that the same land he bought his mum so she could keep donkeys from a donkey sanctuary there?

what an utter bastard he was doing that.🤔priced out all the locals.

The local donkeys?

Spot on! Said to my husband, that’s a very Edwardian styles dress.

Did anyone see the magnificent returning officer in the velvet jacket, flounces, feathered hat and white gloves? 😁

Yes that returning officer had an amazing outfit, she outdid everyone.

Victoria Starmer looked very elegant in the red dress (and the cream short sleeved jacket she wore yesterday).

Only reason I can see to be upset by him buying some land for his mum so she can keep rescued donkeys on it.

I mean, it’s a real arsehole move isn’t it.

PaleSunlightOfHope · 05/07/2024 13:10

Oh goodness. She is a pretty woman, but that dress looks like the unfortunate result of a brief liaison between a zebra and an extra from an amateur production of The Sound Of Music.

Lol.

@StripedTomatoes are you saying NHS workers shouldn't be able to wear or afford ME&EM?😂

You forget that she’s married to a multi-millionaire Labour politician. Duh!

jockeywilsonsaid · 06/07/2024 14:26

I thought Victoria looked beautiful yesterday. The dress was lovely and she is naturally a very lovely looking women with a really warm smile. The two of them make a very handsome couple.

The way that people are trying to portray KS as super rich and privileged drives me mad. He came from a very normal modest background and has done very well for himself through hard work. He was a human rights lawyer, not a city banker. The two of them live the lifestyle of two London based professionals who have done well in their careers. Of course they are financially comfortable. You'd expect that for someone in their 60s / 50s who have had the careers they have. KS is self made. Good for him.

Both women looked good - slightly prefer the chevronny one - but mostly as the red wouldn’t suit me. I’m afraid I like Carrie’s style too..

Hmm. Really wasn’t sure about that one. Mrs. Sunak (can’t remember the name she goes by 🥴) is tiny with delicate features and I think it absolutely swamped her.

Not that it matters, of course.

The name “she goes by” is her name.

I suspect you’d remember it if it was Emma or Clare or Susan..

And the Starmers, who haven’t even revealed their children’s names in public.

Contrast with Hunt parading his family like trophies, or the odious Rees-Mogg.

I like the red dress and she is willowy so suits that style. Not sure about the sleeves but she wore it beautifully and you cannot go wrong with Russell and Bromley who twice a year have a brilliant sale. I have strappy sandals I brought years ago from R and B that look like they would last 5 mins with very thin straps and they have lasted me forever. Always buy the more classic styles though

mickeymoist · 06/07/2024 16:12

What a pity Sir Keir did not get trousers the correct length. They have folded up into an heap onto his shoes. Buy braces. Don't let your wife down!

It looked better on Victoria than it does in the model. She's stunning.

HauntedBungalow · 05/07/2024 13:53

Yeah it is was good that she had a brolly but from certain angles it looked more like a shepherdess crook which was an unfortunate combination with the dress.

🤣

It is a fair amount of money for an average family, but it's a perfectly reasonable price for a dress that the wife of the Prime Minister is going to wear on one of the most photographed days of her life.

The multi-millionaire thing is clearly bullshit, but the Leader of the Opposition earns £144,000 and the Prime Minister gets £160,000. They can afford a frock that costs a couple of hundred quid, especially if they're old enough that they bought in London decades ago so aren't burdened with a ruinous mortgage.

Most people earning that kind of cash invest their money and he's in his 60s, so I have no idea why people are denying that he's likely a multimillionaire. I'd be shocked if he wasn't. Some strange folk on here.

AnitaLoos · 06/07/2024 06:37

Victoria is extremely attractive and looked fabulous in the dress. Under £300 is a very reasonable price for an outfit for a day that includes meeting the King at Buckingham Palace and to be pictured on every front page as her husband takes the top job in the country. Re the land, which was a field at the bottom of his parents’ garden which they used as a donkey sanctuary, it was sold for £276k not £10m. We know this is a fact because it was on Starmer’s tax return.

£405k income. These people earn far more than just their MP salary

They want to think they are not just another bunch of rich toffs, but they are. Most of the cabinet are Oxford educated. Kiers made it the Oxford club.

Greenshed · 06/07/2024 17:45

Seems there’s a bit of envy/ inverted snobbery regarding the (guessed) incomes of the Starmers. How much they have in the bank doesn’t interest me. How Sir Keir and his team get on with running the country does.

inlandriverview · 06/07/2024 17:46

They're not toffs

Toffs are upper class/Eton types

The Sunaks and Johnsons and Rees Moggs are toffs
