I need a killer dress for day/night

Maximusdecimus · 30/06/2024 08:12

I’m a size 16, I’m going to a day thing that will go on into the night. Party vibes. I’m 49 so it’s a group going out for a 50th.

Budget is up to £150.

I carry my weight on my stomach so sometimes that goes into an 18 dependent on how hormonal I am.

Im going with a bunch of women where I constantly feel judged. I can’t not go. So need some help! It’s in October. Help!

OP why do you have to spend time with these people?

Similar vibe to Kemi but cheaper. This is a really standout dress. You'll probably need the 18 though as they use the correct sizing rather than vanity.

Wear this if you wanna stick it to them judgemental witches.
Or give them something to talk about.

IceCreamWoes · 25/07/2024 16:10

I would wear this with DMs and cropped black jacket in the autumn

ooh I'm a 14/16 with weight on my stomach and that is my nemesis of a dress 😂clings right to my stomach as it juts out in front of me 😅

Maximusdecimus · 26/07/2024 21:31

Because I’m related to them, that’s why unfortunately.

I’ll have a look at the suggestions but am not going to go with the grass skirt vibe if you don’t mind. 😂

Im 5’3, shoulder length brown hair. A bit pasty in the winter but not too pasty I can carry off a fake tan but don’t like to be too orange.

try scarlett and jo london..they have built in shapers to flatter and a few in velvet. The only thing is you will need to do is get it taken up,cos I am your height and they are all 5ft 10. Brilliant dresses I have a few.

Johnhasalongmoustache · 26/07/2024 21:55

I’m still dying of laughter at the green grass skirt

VivaLaResistance · 26/07/2024 21:56

Has anyone stopped to wonder if the dress the previous poster has suggested is part of her culture and you're all laughing at it?

Nowhere in the OP does it state what ethnicity or culture OP is from but of course we can all assume she's white/british/American and find it hilarious.

Bit fucking racist rude.

It’s awful, no matter what

justmewithmylifetoday · 26/07/2024 22:21

I second Kemmie Telford. Or scamp and dude? They do some really flattering maxi dresses with ruched top half.

justmewithmylifetoday · 26/07/2024 22:24

@VivaLaResistance

Good point!

This was my thought too.

Amazed at how quickly the absolute behaviour started. On a thread about a dress.

bevelino · 25/07/2024 22:40

OP, please don’t wear the grass fields dress.

I don’t think she’d take much persuading😁

Other cultures can still have dresses that look a bit bizarre as a choice to wear with people who are going to judge, as the OP has said.

Nasty, deluded, dim. It's giving Tattle. 👀

For goodness sake it would be like suggesting these dresses . Then of course she might be Austrian or Scottish. Any excuse ..

Completely off-topic- but why do you NEED to go? I have a friend who's doing this to herself, too, and feeling crap after these parties (with the same group of judgy friends) every single time.
You don't need to go and socialise with these people!
If you decide to go, look for something with a knot in front. I have added a link from Shein of an example of what you should be looking at. But, obviously , do not buy from Shein 😅

The fabrics have a very African vibe and the models are all African, but so what? The dress styles themselves are not traditional African costume, so no-ones 'culture' is being mocked. Seriously, you can't be racist against a horrible dress. It has something of the circus performer about it. I feel that woman should be standing up on a horse as it gallops in circles.

But given the African connection with the fabric, I'm only surprised someone hasn't demanded to know the OP's ethnicity and been sure to tell her that she should be wary of cultural appropriation. Not that she's going to pick that dress in a month of Sundays.

NeoName · 27/07/2024 14:30

Does it need to be more formal or more modern, going out type vibe?

What about a body, jacket, trousers combo?

This Bodysuit from mannersldn looks great and can be worn with jeans or wide legged trousers. With a jacket or a floaty kimono type top. Which means you can do the day/night transition easily.

Or even just a simple black dress with a colourful cover up kimono or jacket - and then a new necklace/lipstick for the evening.

But it's about what makes you feel good - it might be a really nice pair of shoes (esska do lovely party shoes) - if you feel comfortable, you will feel much more confident.

Have a look on Vinted at things from Max Mara or Marina Rinaldi. I bet you can get a deal on a great party outfit there.

Kupu Bodysuit 3/4 Sleeved and Mesh in Black

Kupu-Kupu (means butterfly in Indonesian) and putting this on feeeels like butterfly baddie mode! Its sass, class, sauce, it's tits high, head high power suit! And it now has SLEEVES! (cos you aksed) Hook and eyes to fasten, so you don't have to strip...

Going out vibe, think brunch into dancing.

I have this dress but in black and red, and it's very flattering and sexy. Great with chunky boots.

I know right? And Scarlett and Jo dresses are so flattering and comfy to wear, if only I had a party to go to I could buy one for myself 😅

That gold dress is in the category of dresses which if it were the only thing available, I'd stay at home. Nothing would make me wear that in public.
