I need a killer dress for day/night

I’m a size 16, I’m going to a day thing that will go on into the night. Party vibes. I’m 49 so it’s a group going out for a 50th.

Budget is up to £150.

I carry my weight on my stomach so sometimes that goes into an 18 dependent on how hormonal I am.

Im going with a bunch of women where I constantly feel judged. I can’t not go. So need some help! It’s in October. Help!

This won't be flattering in an apple shape and arms etc need to be toned and tanned to really pull this off on the way the OP wants (not body shaming or policing but listening to what the OP wants). Ruching is a possibility but I think if done poorly it screams look at this problem area I don't want you to look at.

Alright coco Chanel

What colours do you look good in? If you are not sure try Kettlewell . Sosandar wrap dresses might fit the bill and then combine it with the colour that works for you.

HappyWorkingMummy · 25/07/2024 21:54

@Johnhasalongmoustache 😆😆

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 25/07/2024 22:15

An empire line winter dress would work, or a wrap dress.

GoldFrame · 25/07/2024 22:16

Empire line dresses are terrible if you have a belly; look pregnant.

LizzieLine · 25/07/2024 22:24

People have wildly differing ideas of what a ‘killer dress’ is, as evidenced by this thread and some of the absolute horrors suggested.

We need more guidance on your usual style, OP!

This is a fantastic dress. It's not as short as it looks (you can pull up/down as you see fit) skims in all the right places, has ruching to disguise a less than flat stomach and flatters your bust. I'm a 5ft2, 32FF and every time I wear it, I have a ton of compliments.

Similar vibe to Kemi but cheaper. This is a really standout dress. You'll probably need the 18 though as they use the correct sizing rather than vanity.

OP, please don’t wear the grass fields dress.

Can you imagine? She's already said they judge her 😂😂

OP is getting a bunch of links to dresses either not in her size or way sexier than she asked for.

gardenmusic · 26/07/2024 08:20

Goldframe,
Not sure I would want to be in ' just a dress' in October.
What are you thinking of as a wrap? There are some very beautiful ones out there, they are not old fashioned. I have a light wool Inca inspired one that I wear with a long sleeved jersey midi dress.
I think it may be necessary to think about outer wear first. No good having a classy beautiful dress if OP, like me, has parkas.

Lighteningstrikes · 26/07/2024 08:49

@IceCreamWoes
I love that dress!
Where's it from?

She’s going to a party, not climbing the Andes 😂

*disclaimer I’m Scottish. So coats on a day out are for the weak and very old 😂

It's day to evening, though? Also travelling there and back. I would not want to be without some outerwear on an October evening, and I live in the sunny south.
