I need a killer dress for day/night

I’m a size 16, I’m going to a day thing that will go on into the night. Party vibes. I’m 49 so it’s a group going out for a 50th.

Budget is up to £150.

I carry my weight on my stomach so sometimes that goes into an 18 dependent on how hormonal I am.

Im going with a bunch of women where I constantly feel judged. I can’t not go. So need some help! It’s in October. Help!

That gold dress is gorgeous @worralorralozza That’s a party dress!

I know right? And Scarlett and Jo dresses are so flattering and comfy to wear, if only I had a party to go to I could buy one for myself 😅

IceCreamWoes · 25/07/2024 16:10

I would wear this with DMs and cropped black jacket in the autumn

Having said that, I'm in my 30s so might not be the best judge for your age. I'd overlooked that at first actually. (although I don't think age should factor really, just thinking for you personally!)

JudgeBurrito · 25/07/2024 16:22

Not sure about that exact dress @IceCreamWoes but I was thinking similarly. Rather than a killer dress, I think I'd be inclined to go for something simple and dressed down, but expensive and well-styled/accessorised. Makes it look like effortless, like you haven't tried to impress them. OP posted in June, but if you are still lurking @Maximusdecimus , what parts of your body do you like/prefer to cover? If you have great legs but prefer to cover your stomach I'd go for a structured black mini dress, for example.

GoldFrame · 25/07/2024 17:01

I like that dress @IceCreamWoes and
in my fifties. It’s also refreshing to see a dress on mumsnet that’s not like something off the olden days (gold dress excepted) 😂

What's your colouring and what's your usual style? Edgy? Funky? Tailored? Classic and elegant? Feminine and floaty? What kind of colours do you usually grativate towards?

Do you have decent legs and would you wear something above the knee or not? What about arms? Do you like bold pattern or prefer plain?

HappyWorkingMummy · 25/07/2024 18:08

Johnhasalongmoustache · 30/06/2024 08:14

This won't be flattering in an apple shape and arms etc need to be toned and tanned to really pull this off on the way the OP wants (not body shaming or policing but listening to what the OP wants). Ruching is a possibility but I think if done poorly it screams look at this problem area I don't want you to look at.

HappyWorkingMummy · 25/07/2024 18:09

@Starlight1979 cultural appropriation galore!

Some sense spoken here

Coming back to suggest this which just popped up on my targeted ads. Slightly over budget but standout colour, flattering, and silk.

Moonshine5 · 25/07/2024 18:46

A runched top with a knot that ruffles over the stomach area. Comes in lots of different colours, wear with black crop jeans / patterned skirt / leather leggings/ wide leg trousers. Paired with wedges / flatforms or trainers. Bracelet, etc.
Really long link lol

Sorry I've posted the back 😹

East (shops closed, but still on line) usually does some velvet during the autumn, as does Monsoon.
You may need to think about outerwear in October. Would a smart colourful trouser suit work? Dressed up with good boots or a bag?
Then you could add a serape or throw?

Moonshine5 · 25/07/2024 18:54

Loving the gold dress @worralorralozza

GoldFrame · 25/07/2024 19:03

Why is mumsnet the only place in the universe where people still suggest wraps?

a dress will be fine!

Similar vibe to Kemi but cheaper. This is a really standout dress. You'll probably need the 18 though as they use the correct sizing rather than vanity.

Which bit? That's what me and my friends would wear to a party vibes day/night do...

sausawyee · 25/07/2024 19:57

@IceCreamWoes I would love to wear a dress like that but not when you carry your weight on your stomach.
