Wedding Guest - Appropriate?!

I've bought this Club L London cape style midi dress (in navy) with the view to wearing it at an upcoming October wedding.

Not sure if:

a.) the dress is at all wedding guest appropriate?

b.) this amazing headpiece would work with the dress?! (or is it way too over the top?!)

c.) if positive responses to both of the above - do I just wear gold strappy sandals, or pick a shoe colour?

Wedding is a cousin of DH's, so the last thing I want to do is look to draw attention, and I know the cape style is a bit dramatic in itself?! But I've two babies, and struggling to find the fun in my style again.

Will be a fairly large wedding at a family run hotel local to bride and groom.

I think it's lovely! Very smart and the headpiece is fun. It is quite dark and serious though as it's tailored, so will it suit the style of the wedding?

ConstanceAlways · 26/06/2024 22:37

Both the headband and dress are lovely. However, I don't know if the dress in October might seem a little 'witchy' as near Halloween? (I know that's the sort of thing, people who I know would joke)

lysistrataaa · 26/06/2024 22:46

@Boxina this is the thing - I'm not entirely sure of the style or vibe of the wedding? I'd guess (purely on instinct?!) that it's not likely to be super formal / tailored, which I suppose is why I'm questioning whether the dress is ok.

@ConstanceAlways - good point!! Though it's early October so I'm a bit less concerned about the dress up / witchy comments.

It's definitely wedding suitable, so if you love it and feel good in it I would go for it. It's a definite fashion statement in a good way, so I think even if it's not quite the vibe, you'll still look fab and not out of place.

Illpickthatup · 27/06/2024 06:49

I think it's a great combo. The headband works because the dress is quite simple. I don't think it'll look witchy as it's navy rather than black. In terms of shoes I think any colour from the hairband would be fine so you have plenty of options.

AreolaGrande · 27/06/2024 06:52

I'm biased as I love me a cape sleeve but I think it's gorgeous and the headband is perfect with it.

Silviasilvertoes · 27/06/2024 09:53

Love both.

Workawayxx · 27/06/2024 09:54

I think both are lovely and I’d definitely wear to an October wedding

usernother · 27/06/2024 10:03

It's gorgeous, very wedding appropriate and I love the headband

Bax765 · 27/06/2024 10:10

I love the dress! I don't have any weddings to go to but quite tempted to buy one just in case.. 😆

poetryandwine · 27/06/2024 10:11

I love the combination for an autumn wedding. The dress is plain, though lovely, so it needs a slightly ornate headpiece

Waterboatlass · 27/06/2024 10:17

I think it's a gorgeous outfit! Not gold shoes though, as the colours of the headpiece look cool, I'd do a colour from the jewels or silver

lysistrataaa · 27/06/2024 10:18

Thanks all. I was talking myself out of the headband this morning, as it's a small fortune!

But I got the dress for £60, and I'd normally spend more than that on a wedding guest outfit, so... trying to justify it to myself!

Saw these Sam Edelman shoes at a wee steal of £33 just now too, and think they'd pick out the aqua quite nicely and brighten up the navy.

If you can't go dramatic at a wedding when can you!

ellabella2345 · 27/06/2024 10:23

Both fantastic, yikes that headband is expensive , if that’s an issue see if anything preloved similar that you can find. Pick a fun colour from the headband for shoes, bunk, blue etc.

Janehasamane · 27/06/2024 10:27

I like it but I’d likely go for the plum colour as it’s less dark for a wedding/

magicstar1 · 27/06/2024 10:35

It's lovely! The dress reminds me of the one Victoria Beckham wore to Harry and Meghan's wedding.

MorrisZapp · 27/06/2024 10:39

That's a lot of money on a headband that might dig in and give you a headache! I've never met one that doesn't. I can picture you drunkenly handing it to a delighted flower girl and never seeing it again 😂

This made me laugh out loud... this is 100% something I'd do!!

I have another (v expensive) headband from here that I bought for my own wedding, and it is super padded / comfy... as it should be at the price!!

I have two girls, so was actually thinking it'd be nice to have another headband, as heirloom type pieces. It is a lot of money though!!

Not sure if I'd wear it lots because of all the colours, or if it's so distinctive that I'd only feel like I could wear it a couple of times.

Gorgeous outfit - really stylish without being over the top! Definitely pick up one of the colours from the headband for shoes/bracelet!

hastalav · 27/06/2024 13:12

Love the dress - well I would say that, I had similar at my niece's wedding in late September, it was a deep purple colour though. I teamed it with silver grey and pale pink bits. No headband just hair up with a diamante clip at the back.

While it is lovely, I honestly wouldn't spend the guts of 400 quid on a headband. Nope, never and as a pp said it might end up on the floor if you take it off!

I'm sure you could find similar on Etsy etc. and still look amazing.

Inyourwildestdreams · 27/06/2024 13:19

DO IT 😍 You’ll look fab @lysistrataaa 😊

Dress is lovely and simple but the cape style gives it a bit of a flare! Shoes are lovely. Headband is a masterpiece in my opinion 😍😁 If you need any extra justification - it would look incredible at some kind of Christmas/New Year party! Two wears and passing it on to a child means it’s practically free 😁

CharlotteBog · 27/06/2024 14:59

It's lovely OP, just don't get tipsy and leave your halo on the roof of a car, in the loo, on the buffet table, behind a bush (that's level 3 tipsy).

There are loads online, though some are probably worthy of those "what I thought I ordered vs what I got" shots!

😂Are you one of those women who returns an item and regards that shopping trip as making a profit?!

Absolutely stunning. So classy. Love it
