Am I too old for this wedding dress?

Aged 46, size 8. Wedding in Sept. Is it a bit prom like, youthful, mutton / lamb?

Wedding dresses do not need to cost a fortune! Wear what you feel confident and beautiful in.

£380 is not a fortune?! Blimey, MN really is for six figure earners...

ErrolTheDragon · 24/06/2024 09:54

£380 is a lot for a dress, but not compared to the eye watering prices of some wedding dresses. There's often a lot more work in them than a normal dress.

BeaLola · 24/06/2024 10:14

I really like the first one - can imagine with a fab pair of shoes

The second I have seen in different colours worn by wedding guests - it does look lovely onthe right shape but creases

henlake7 · 24/06/2024 10:19

First one is gorgeous and I bet the OP will look lovely in it, esp if they are a size 8!

Although I find their size guide really weird....the size 8 is 30-26-45ins so clearly this shop is for pear shapes only!😄

faffadoodledo · 24/06/2024 10:46

That first dress is perfect. I love it. Don't go with the Ghost dress - nowhere near as pretty or elegant.

What's wrong with over 35s wearing white @Berlinlover ? And do you mean any white or just all white? because at 58 i find a white shirt is a wardrobe superstar.

MadKittenWoman · 24/06/2024 10:48

My first thought was that the lace dress was a bit frumpy but I've warmed to it. Second is a no. It would need a lot of accessorising to make it look special.

BitOutOfPractice · 24/06/2024 10:57

The first one is the exact opposite of how you described it. It's so lovely, please wear it!

housethatbuiltme · 24/06/2024 10:57

Its a nice dress, I would say its very much a 'middle aged style' based on the length (I would assume longer or shorter for younger, mid calf is very middle age) but its sweet and not frumpy.

That said you can wear any dress at any age, just pick what you love.

FlippityFloppityFlump · 24/06/2024 11:01

I'm pleased you've bought the first one. It's beautiful

endofthecorridoor · 24/06/2024 11:37

absolutely not. My friend just showed my a pic of a lady in her 60's wearing a very similar wedding dress and she looked gorgeous in it.

BearFacedCheek · 24/06/2024 11:48

I love the Ghost dress @MistressOfCopperMountain
I tried it in a different colour. It hangs beautifully and is a classic.

both the dresses are ones which look good or not depending on the wearers figure - first one you probably need to be quite slim, second one curves in the right places.

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 24/06/2024 12:21

OMG, that Net-a-Porter dress in the OP's post is gorgeous. I would wear it and I'm 64. Not too low, not too short - nothing that anyone vaguely age conscious could worry about. Just beautiful.

@Speaking

reallyi just don't see it.not at all.

@MistressOfCopperMountain

thank god it looks better on you!!

any chance of a photo?

Neither are to my taste (but clearly to plenty of others! ) but the first one is a zillion times better. But I'd need to see them on you, not ironing board models.

i thought they'd stopped using models who look like they have eating disorders??

I thought we’d stopped calling women insulting names just because they’re thin??

faffadoodledo · 24/06/2024 14:55

@Floorbard
Didn't you know? if you're slim - whether naturally so, or because you try to maintain a healthy diet - you are likely to be 'gaunt', skinny or thin.
'Ironing board models'. Urgh. Growing up in the 1980s that was an insult thrown at those of us with smaller cup sizes. Honestly women - we can't win. And it's all the sadder when it comes from other women isn't it?

EllyGi · 24/06/2024 15:14

It's gorgeous! And totally fine for any age!

Ryeman · 24/06/2024 15:27

Both dresses are beautiful but if anything I'd say you are too young for the first. It's quite staid.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 24/06/2024 16:41

Wow, I really, really like that. I'm older than you and I would wear it. If I was getting married now I'd much rather wear something like that than a conventional wedding dress. You'd also be able to wear it again if you wanted to - if you wanted to make it look less weddingy for a different occasion I bet it would look good with a black jacket and shoes.

NervousNelly84 · 24/06/2024 16:58

I think they're both beautiful. I do like the Ghost one though. So classic!

To be fair it looks absolutely DREADFUL on the model (and like it's four sizes too big) but actually if you look at it in the dark blue colour, you can see how nice it looks on a model when it actually fits!

FartingAgainstThunder · 24/06/2024 17:23

I love both dresses but am biased towards the second one as I wore something very similar for my wedding day.
It definitely requires boobs and accessories.

Judecb · 24/06/2024 17:53

Not at all. It looks beautiful! Congratulations!!

Leedsfan247 · 24/06/2024 17:58

Not in the slightest sounds perfect

Thistlewoman · 24/06/2024 18:09

It's lovely! Very appropriate and if you love it, wear it. You will look fab-enjoy your wedding day x

Livelifeandloveit · 24/06/2024 18:17

I think it's lovely and as you're so slim it will be perfect

Mikki77 · 24/06/2024 18:19

You will look Gorgeous and its a bargain ❤
